Recommendations adopted in the Grand Rally organized by the National Committee for Protecting Islam and Religious Politics held on 16th January 2010 in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

In protest against the conspiracy of banning Islam and religious politics in the name of amendment of the constitution, the following recommendations have been placed and duly approved by the Grand Rally organized by the “National Committee for protecting Islam and Religious politics’’:

1.         The Grand Rally expresses thanks and gratitude to Allah Subhanaha wa Taala for cordial support and assistance extended by the leaders of all level irrespective of party, class and profession since the inception of the Committee and expresses its appreciation to all concerned.

2.         It is being observed with deep concern and tension that a particular group of people is trying to eliminate some articles and sections from the constitution of Bangladesh which are related to the religious and democratic right of people.  This type of evil step would be very detrimental to the main spirit of the constitution. The Grand Rally condemns and protests this evil conspiracy.

3.         Today’s Grand Rally is protesting the government for withdrawing the appeal filed by the previous government against the verdict of the high court declaring the 5th amendment of the constitution invalid. So the Grand Rally is requesting the honorable court to reconsider the matter understanding the overall bed impact of the execution of the verdict. Since the law and constitution is for mankind and country, so no verdict is beneficent which is against the faith and spirit of the major people rather it will create instability, chaos, panic and disorder.

4.         The minister for law, justice and parliamentary affairs declared on 4th January that religion based political parties would be banned according to the constitution. The Grand Rally thinks that he is actually indicating to the Islamic political parties of the country. His statement is the resound of the particular concerns who are conspirating to eliminate Islamic values, Islamic parties and Islamic leadership from the land of Bangladesh in many ways and techniques. He (the minister) has been trying to defame the image of Madrasas, Ulamas and Islamic politics through his different unfair comments.

As the case of 5ht amendment of the constitution is under trial in the Supreme Court, the Grand Rally believes that the minister of law, through his comment, violated the law and tried to instigate the court. So he has lost his right to remain in the chair of law ministry and should resign immediately.

5.         The right to form political party based on religious values is the democratic right of every citizen. This right is existing in different countries including neighbor India, Britain, Germany and America. The Grand Rally opines that this is nothing but a part of far-sighting conspiracy against our country and nation.

6.         The statement of honorable President of the Peoples’ Republic of Bangladesh regarding prohibiting the right of fatwa is very afflicting. The Grand Rally thinks that some fatawa issued by some ignorant people titling themselves as Ulama is not any how related to the fatwa of Islam. The call of the president to ban fatawa without understanding the underlying importance and rules of fatawa is very unfair for the president of a Muslim country like Bangladesh. So the Grand Rally is calling upon the president to consult experienced Ulamas before commenting on any religious issue.

7.         The recent statement of honorable Prime Minister of Bangladesh saying “According to Muslim law though males enjoy their full right to the property of father, females cannot enjoy that right even she becomes his sole heir”, is the result of his ignorance about inheritance law of Islam. Today’s Grand Rally believes that the right of men and women given by Islam is fully just and beneficial for humanity. So the Prime Minister should be careful enough before commenting on such kind of sensitive religious issues.

8.         The General Secretary of Awami League and honorable Minister of ruling party Syed Ashraful Islam said on 8th January 2010, “What is said by any ’Moulavi’ (Alim) is not a matter by which people or government would run “ . His comment is very clear to prove that Awami league and ruling party is vividly against Islam,  Peer Mashaikh (Sufis) and Religious personalities. It breeds endless hate, aversion and detest against Islamic values and culture. This comment is a severe hit in the hearts of religious Muslims of the country. Today’s Grand Rally is rejecting his comment and calling upon him to be careful enough in future.

9.         Some comments and statements of honorable President, Prime Minister, minister of law, minister of jute and other leaders of ruling party is creating doubts in the mind of people that present government is trying to remove and eliminate Islamic values and culture by hook or by crook which is existing in our country for thousand years and trying to destroy Madrasa and Islamic education from this Muslim country of 87% Muslim citizens. Today’s Grand Rally is calling upon the government to take necessary steps and not to stand against the sentiment of religious people of the country.

10.       Islam is very easy and balanced way of life. One eyed view and extremism is not accepted in Islam. Making instability, creating chaos and disorder through bomb explosion and terrorist activities are not accepted by Islam. Today’s Grand Rally is condemning such activities.

11.       Corruption, extremism, terrorism or any kind of crime must be proved through proper investigation and every individual is innocent until conviction. So arresting people or torturing in the name of remand or killing without judgment is injustice and violation of universal human right. Today’s Grand Rally is drawing the attention of the government in this regard and demanding amendment of Article-167 of criminal law in view to close the door of injustice in the name of remand.

12.       Honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina recently visited India. The Grand Rally feels that taking steps to strengthen bilateral relation between two neighboring countries is very important but the contracts and memorandum of understandings signed during his visit avoiding long suffering issues like water sharing problem, 3 bigha corridor, border killing by Indian security Forces, Tipaimukh Dam, Determining sea Border between India and Bangladesh, cannot be the right way to resolve these complex problems. Moreover allowing India to use Mongla port and Chittagong port without discussing the matter in Parliament and ignoring the public sentiment is not within the right of the government.

13.       Today’s Grand Rally is strongly demanding to shun the plan to ban politics based on religion. It will never be beneficent for anyone.
