Killings, rapes, muggings on rise in capital
A total of 27 people were murdered in 25 incidents in the capital during the month of April this year The incidents of killing, mugging and rape have increased in the capital during the month of April compared to previous and current month of last year.
A total of 27 people were murdered in 25 incidents in the capital during the month of April this year as compared to 24 last year while it was 23 in March last these were revealed to journalists at a briefing by Dhaka Metropolitan Police at Rajarbagh Police Telecom auditorium in Dhaka Thursday .
The DMP commissioner, AKM Shahidul Haque, instructed the responsible police officers, including the zonal deputy commissioners, officer-in-charges and the Detective Branch, to nab the killers immediately.
While briefing, he claimed that a number of killers, including the prime suspects of sub-inspector Gawtam Kumar, had already been arrested by the police and the rest would be arrested soon.
The commissioner also claimed that the incidents of robbery, theft, burglary, rioting, extortion and car-lifting had reduced significantly.
The DMP has arrested a total of 6,082 persons including seven listed criminals and 17 extortionists from the capital during last month, he said adding that they also recovered 22 firearms, 895 rounds of bullet, 5,212 bottle of Phensidyl, 77 kilograms of hemp, two kilograms of heroin, 2,817 pieces of yaba tablets and 29 stolen cars from the capital.
Replying to a question, Shahidul Haque ruled out the possibility of deteriorating law and order in the city following a government decision to free 1,000 convicts from the Dhaka Central Jail.
The concerned OCs will monitor their activities, he added.
