[ALOCHONA] BNP pays dearly for not settling Fifth Amendment

BNP pays dearly for not settling Fifth Amendment

Narayanganj, Aug 23 (bdnews24.com) – BNP is dearly paying for not settling the Fifth Amendment issue during its previous tenure, BNP standing committee member Goyeshwar Chandra Roy has said. "The BNP-led government should have settled the verdict them when the government had just 14 months to go," he said.

He was speaking at a meeting in memory of former BNP MP Atahar Hossain Shamsu at Ali Ahmed Chunka Municipality Auditorium in Narayanganj. He demanded trial of all crimes against humanity that have taken place until now since the 1971 Independence War.

The government has recently initiated trial of all crimes against humanity during the 1971 war. Awami League president and prime minister Sheikh Hasina has recently said that BNP had links to the Aug 21 grenade attack on an Awami League rally in 2004, when the BNP-led government was in power.

Roy said that the government is now trying to accuse the BNP over the Aug 21 grenade attack that took place in 2004, just for political mileage. He claimed that there were gangs from home and abroad linked to the attack. He also spoke over so-called reformists that surfaced from inside the party after a military-installed government took office in Jan 2007.

"I don't see any reformists inside the BNP now. But those who had amassed assets illegally were out to endanger Zia's family."

"BNP faces more harm by its enemies inside than by those outside the organisation," he said and added that when the party was in power, they were the ones who had harmed the party. He also criticised the Awami League for forming government along with former military dictator HM Ershad-led Jatiya Party.
