Dear Br. Rahman, Salaam! Thank you for your input on this matter. The original message was my initial reaction upon reading the news. Yes, we could shed 'benefits of doubts' to save Sahara Khatun, but the bottom line is, by stating those remarks she has shown the world where she stands when it comes to Islam. The message is clear in the Qur'an when verse 3 of chapter 5 says, "...This day have I perfected your religion for you, completed My favour upon you, and have chosen for you Islam as your religion..." There is no need for a Muslim to back track to older religion to learn from what Lord Krishna said. As you pointed out quite nicely that all that has been said by Krishna has been repeated later by other prophets! Islam asked Muslims to promote "Islam" as a way of life, not secularism or any other ideologies. Chapter 16, verse 125 of the Qur'an says it clearly, "Invite (all) to the Way of thy Lord with wisdom and beautiful preaching; and argue with them in ways that are best and most gracious: for thy Lord knoweth best, who have strayed from His Path, and who receive guidance." I have addresses this matter in one of my papers "Politics, secularism and Islam", which i snow available at http://javedahmad.tripod.com/islam/politics-secularism.htm As a Muslim, she should do some home work on Islam before going out in public and spread nonsense. Otherwise, she would just offend the practicing Muslims and would find herself in deep trouble not only in this world but also in the here after. Dr. Zakir Naik of Peace TV has a long lecture on similarities between Islam and Hinduism; she should see it and listen to it carefully to understand the matter. There is nothing new Lord Krishna can teach a Muslim. All religions came from the same source - Allah. But they came at different times at different regions and for different people, language and culture. Islam being the last and final revelations and a culmination of past religions. It was necessary as all the older religions were corrupted and no longer spreads the truth. Still for the sake of research and understanding with whatever is remaining there could be worth looking into, but not necessary. Here is my paper on this subject http://bangladesh-web.com/view.php?hidRecord=322970 The followers themselves no longer knows what contains in the religion that they believe in and practice. As a result I had to write the paper "When religion is just a label" now available at http://javedahmad.tripod.com/islam/label.htm . If we understood our own religion instead of listening to the priests and rabbis and imams we could ourselves make this world a better place today. I totally agree with you when you said, "Islam is more than saying quick salaams. We have to take time to learn about others and reflect teachings of Islam in our lives. Our last prophet of a man of peace and mercy to all living creatures. When our lives starts reflecting the beauty of Islam, we are going to have a beautiful Bangladesh. InshAllah!!" Hope Sahara Khatun and her "secular loving team" gets this message and enrolls into some Islamic schooling before blundering again. Only a few days ago while talking to someone who knows Begum Hasina closely told me that she is a God fearing person and recites the Qur'an everyday and very punctual in her job showing respect to the people around her. If that is the case, then I wonder how come she picked up someone line Sahara Khatun who is totally ignorant about Islam? Wassalaam! --- On Thu, 9/30/10, Isha Khan <bdmailer@gmail.com> wrote:
