BGB-BSF celebrate Holi along border
Akhaura Land Port, Mar 21 (bdnews24.com)—Taking a break from their security duties, border guards of India and Bangladesh have celebrated Holi at a frontier check post near Agartala as a symbol of communal harmony. Holi, the most vibrant festival of colours in India, indicates the end of winter and onset of spring. It is also associated with the uninhibited expression of love and affection through colours and sweets.
At Akhwara check post (ACP) near Agartala, the capital of Indian north-eastern state Tripura, the festival on Sunday brought a much-needed breather from security duties for the paramilitary personnel.
The Border Security Force (BSF) and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) smeared colour dusts in the face of their counterparts and hugged while conveying greetings for the festival. "We are celebrating Holi with the soldiers of our friendly neighbour. It's a new experience and this fulfils the gap of being away from our families. It's an attempt to improve our relation with our counterpart," said K N Singh, company commandant of BSF's 77 battalion.
The BGB team was led by BGB 12 battalion's Mohammad Rafikul, who is in-charge of Akhwara Land Port in Brahminbaria. The celebration ended with the exchange of sweets and wishes to maintain better relations at the border.
India and Bangladesh shares a long 4,096-km border and a five-day BSF-BGB director general (DG)-level talks concluded in New Delhi on a positive note to maintain better relation at the ground level between the border guards of the two close door neighbours.
