Dhaka, Mar 22 (bdnews24.com) — The US assistant secretary of state has said the Yunus issue must be settled in a respectable manner.
Addressing a press conference at US Recreation Centre in Gulshan on Tuesday, Robert O Blake said the US-Bangladesh ties would be hampered if the issue of ouster of the Grameen Bank managing director was not settled in a respectable way.
On Mar 2, Bangladesh Bank ordered removal of Muhammad Yunus from the post of managing director of the specialised Grameen Bank, saying he had long past his retirement age.
Yunus later filed writ petitions challenging the legality of the central bank order, but the High Court rejected his petitions.
Robert O Blake came to Bangladesh on Mar 19.
During his stay here, he has discussed the issue with prime minister Sheikh Hasina, leader of the opposition Khaleda Zia and foreign secretary Mijarul Quayes.
