Dhaka, Apr 21 (bdnews24.com) – BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia has relocated to a new address in the capital.

She moved into a house in posh Gulshan area in the early hours of Thursday.

Built over a bigha land, the two-storey 'rented' house has been decorated to her 'exquisite' taste, press secretary of the former prime minister Maruf Kamal Khan said.

Facing the Russian embassy, Khaleda's new residence at House No 1, Road No 79 with a lush green lawn is also quite close to the Pakistan High Commission.

"She's been personally supervising the last-minute touches for the last few days," the aide said.

The renovated house boasts of gardens in the front and back of the villa.

bdnews24.com chief political correspondent Sumon Mahmod saw the leader of the opposition drive into the house at 1:20am.

"She's been seen visiting the house around midnight for a few days now." said Sumon quoting the ex-PM's press secretary.

Her younger brother, Shamim Eskander, has been hosting her since she 'left' her long-time home in Dhaka Cantonment on Nov 13 last year following a High Court verdict.

The new house 'Feroja' has been 'rented' from Tanveer Islam, younger son of retired major and former BNP state minister Quamrul Islam, on a three-year contract, said Maruf. Feroja was the mother of Quamrul.

She had been living in the 6 Moinul Road house in the Dhaka Cantonment since 1972 (before and after her husband Ziaur Rahman's death) and 'left' it when the present government revoked the allotment.

Khaleda went to the court to uphold what she claimed her right to the house, but failed.

The home ministry has assigned 10 police constables for the security of the house.
