[ALOCHONA] Re: 25 citizens ask govt to scrap framework agreement

25 notable citizens in a joint statement condemned Hasina's anti-nation Framework Agreement of subservience with Manmohan and they demanded its immediate repeal. They said it is a threat to our independence and sovereignty and termed it more dangerous than Mujib's 25 year treaty with India. They also said that though the govt has been deluding the public by saying that 'No Teesta treaty, no transit', but it is clear from the Joint Statement of the two PMs and the Framework Agreement that the govt has actually conceded corridor to India, which is against our national interest.

We fully support the joint statement of the 25 notable citizens, whose names are given in the following reports. No doubt, they have spoken on behalf of all the patriots of the country and they have spoken the truth. It is the demand of the general public that the agreement be repealed immediately.

25 citizens ask govt to scrap framework agreement

Twenty-five eminent citizens in a joint statement on Tuesday called on the government to cancel the Framework Agreement on Cooperation for Development signed during Indian prime minister Manmohan Singh's visit to Dhaka, terming it a 'threat' to the independence and sovereignty of Bangladesh.

'The framework agreement signed to protect the interests of India is more dangerous and devastating than the 25-year Bangladesh-India deal signed in 1972. The 1972 deal had a timeframe but the framework agreement has no such timeframe. Even Bangladesh has no right to cancel the agreement,' read the statement.

The statement said that no patriotic citizen could accept a deal that compromises the country's interest without approval by parliament. 'We demand immediate scrapping of the deal which is against the country's independence and sovereignty and has been signed with evil intentions.'

The signatories to the statement accused the government of triggering controversies over the recent visit of Manmohan Singh by linking its failure to sign an agreement  on Teesta water sharing with allowing corridor to India.

'Actually, the framework agreement and the joint statement of the two prime ministers clearly indicate that the government has already decided to give corridor to India. As citizens of Bangladesh, we condemn such evil acts,' the statement said. 'We are certain that what the government is trying to portray as transit is actually a corridor… We believe that the decision of Bangladesh government to allow corridor does in no way aim to protect Bangladesh's interests,' it said.

The statement said that no credible study on economic, infrastructural and security aspects was done to determine whether the corridor would threaten Bangladesh's sovereignty. The signatories urged the people to be vocal for protecting the state's security and sovereignty 'at this moment of crisis.'

Emajuddin Ahmed, Talukder Maniruzzaman, Farhad Mazhar, Mohammad Asafuddowlah, Shafik Rehman, Ataus Samad, Alamgir Mohiuddin, Mahmudur Rahman, AFM Yusuf Haider, Dr Mahbubullah, Quamrul Ahsan Chowdhury, UAB Razia Akhtar Banu, Khandakar Mustahidur Rahman, ABM Obaidul Islam, Adilur Rahman Khan, Pias Karim, Ruhul Amin Gazi and Kamal Uddin Sabuj were among the signatories.
