Re: [mukto-mona] Thoughts on 9/11

Even after two wars, the trillion dollar question still remains unanswered; how to stop terrorism around the world? No one has a clue.

I can only offer my best guesses here. Since no one has a "Clue".

Unsavory attacks on civilians did not start overnight. Issues in different parts of the world were there but few political leaders shown any courage to solve such problems. They just wanted to play safe and "Sustain" their traditional vote banks. For example problems in Kashmir, Palestine are there for over 60 years. How many 'Credible" attempts were made to solve it in a way that was perceived as 'Fair" by most of the people? I cannot think of any.

Bad foreign policies helped to sustain suffering of common people and extremists took advantage of desperate people who given up hope to solve their suffering in "Traditional ways".

Credible initiatives were taken in Ireland and most of century old "Grudge matches" went away in the UK. Nelson Mandela stayed cool headed in an extremely sensitive time in South African history and old wounds began to heal in South Africa. Mandela was smart enough to ensure issues in South Africa was solved before it get to any "Terrorist agenda". Other places mentioned below has different stories and it would not be right to give same solution to different issues.

For example there were NO extremist elements in Iraq before George Bush decided to "Free Iraq" albeit Iraqi population did not ask the US to free them. Neither they ever took part in any attacks against the US. But "Getting even with Saddam" was more important for "Dubya" than even going after attackers of 9/11. One dumb ass from Texas did more damage to the US economy [ By spending precious resources in useless wars] than Osama could ever achieved. In this particular case foreign policy worked to help Al-Quida by recruiting more misguided young men for them. Mass media could not resist the "Opportunity" to make this obscure organization into a house hold name.

I think we can take one issue and really explore the reasons behind them. Sincere leadership can and does work. If you can find a way to free foreign policies from industry lobbyists that may be a solid first step towards solution.

Lastly it is wrong to blame the US or any other country for all the problems of the world. At the same time it would be ineffective if we do not recognize how flawed foreign policies work as "Catalysts" for extremists from all corners of the globe. Take away the slogans from them ( By solving those issues), they will look like some nut jobs with guns to most common folks. :-)

Shalom.

@Sah Hannan Said:
Whoever did it, there is no doubt that it was one of the most heinous attack on humanity, men and women, all civilians. There are official and un-official stories about the incident and we can not judge them. But we also mourn the death and want end of all terrorism. This has led to other actions by US in particular which led to hundreds of thousands of death and destruction. These actions were unjustified and only led to more suffering and also responsible for the collapse of US and world economy. US should never venture in such wars in future. Fight against terrorism should not mean occupation of countries.

Even after two wars, the trillion dollar question still remains unanswered; how to stop terrorism around the world? No one has a clue. I heard arguments that America brought it onto itself due to its bad foreign policy in the Middle East. I could buy it – if it could explain terrorism in Russia, India, Pakistan, UK, Iraq, Thailand, Indonesia, Spain, China, etc., etc. You may say - everyone has a unique reason. Yes, indeed, it has. It's like a global fight around the world, and I would like to know how to stop it. Anyone has answers?
