Re: [mukto-mona] Faith and Fallacy.

I always appreciate Mr. Akbar Hussain's views on religion.  One does not really need to read the atheistic literature to discard any religion.  Reading between the lines can achieve the same goal.  Consider the etymology of Gabriel/Gebrael and Michael.  Gebrael=Geb + Ra + El, the first two were the earth and sun gods in the Egyptian pantheon, and El was Elohim = Those who visit the earth, Michael was derived from the Persian Sun God Mithra.  Samael, which is also known as Satan was originally the blind God.  As God became single and sovereign, he was credited with all the good deeds leaving the bad deeds to Satan.  Thus there is no monotheism, incorporation makes a religion like Judaism and  Islam ditheistic, while Christianity with father, son, and the holy ghost becomes quadritheistic.  A believer is like a sheep, so all the blame goes to the shepherd.

Faith and fallacy

A few days before in my face book an Arab man asked me a blunt question regarding my religious views. He expressed his sincere doubt if I am a Muslim or if I am faking a Muslim name. He read my wall and other articles in various forums which led him to determine that no Muslim can write such audacious things about Islam. To me religion was never an important subject. I personally do not believe that an outside faith can ever control my life and thinking. The supreme purpose of faith is not to imprison a person's soul; it should be used to embrace freedom from ignorance.
Recently I was having a conversation with a Sri Lankan young Muslim in the face book. After exchanging views for a long time he sincerely told me that under Islamic laws I am liable to be beheaded. I am lucky that I don't live in a society where Islamic rule works. In this discussion whenever I raised the question of logic and reason, he simply reminded me that a believer must surrender to the unknown. I know it very clearly that every faith has its own iota of fables which were inserted into the faith when it was first constructed. Those were needed to discipline the pagans because they were ignorant and knew no logic.
Since 9/11 Islam has become a hot topic when in this age of enlightenment the grab of any faith was in decline. I find some good in it because the inherent ingredient of fear and ignorance which controls this faith has come under for scrutiny. An engineer friend of mine showed his complete disapproval by seeing the Torah, Gita, Bible and Koran in the same rack in my small library. He said that Koran must be kept in a separate place as only this Book is the word of God delivered by angel Gabriel to Prophet Mohammad. I wonder why a highly educated person like him is so deeply indoctrinated by fables. Why modern technology has failed him? Being an engineer how could himself be a wilful prisoner of the dogmas which has wiped out all logic and common sense?
When I look at the Islamic world I am astonished by the plethora of dogmas and ignorance that reached a critical stage. A false and unsubstantiated self aggrandizement has gripped the entire community. There is none to say that this is wrong and this is self destructive. A lethal drag of the past has compromised all pragmatic senses. This is a very trying time for Islam which needs to be analyzed by all sensitive and reasonable people in the community. There are many reasons for this state of the affairs. The first and foremost one I believe is the primal fear instilled in the mind of every Muslim child at their birth. When they grow up despite all the modern and secular teachings their fear reigns supreme. This fear is an impregnable wall which defeats all reason and logic. It's very unfortunate Islam is still dominated and virtually controlled by the ignorant class of clergy. Any faith that looks for guidance from such a vicious and totally dogmatic class of clergies will not be able to march forward with time. Mosques have become the citadels of ignorance dominated by the mullahs who are determined to ignore the changes. I have confronted many mullahs who never answer any critical question. They demand total submission to the unknown and if you insist call you a murtaad.
This resurgence of the dogmatic attitude in the Islamic world is viewed by many Muslims as an Islamic renaissance. The emergence of hijab, niqab, beard, Arabic dress code and the misinformed interest in the Sharia laws is spreading the tentacles of the dogmas. Islam has been demonized by the Muslims themselves in the non Muslim world. The London subway bombings by some young Muslim citizens of England are terrible signs how dogmas can poison a mind. These are very ominous signals which can't be ignored by any sensible people. The west has been singled out for all the misfortune of the Muslims. They blame George Bush for the invasion of Iraq. But this invasion would not have been possible if there was a united Muslim stand against it. People who blame Bush should blame their own governments for this tragedy.
The ensuing killing of the thousands of the innocent Iraqis another band of the Iraqis was never protested by the general Muslim masses. The unstoppable killing of the innocents in Afghanistan and Pakistan could not touch the compassion of the Muslims around the world. The mullahs are calling for destruction of Israel since 1948 in the millions of mosques around the world but did Israel vanish from the face of the earth? The truth is that the Muslims will never be delivered till such time they will continue to blame others for their misfortune. What the Muslims have done in Tunisia, Egypt, Yemen and Syria? What leadership they have shown when these nations are suffering? Are they not watching silently and shamelessly the massacre of their fellow Muslims?
An epoch is here for the Muslims to rise up against all dogmas and ignorance. This is the time to see reason and be pragmatic. The essence of faith is not to shackle a mind; it should be used for knowledge and freedom. If they fail to do that the posterity will decline to
accept Islam as a faith.
