Now, Islam is on a rendezvous course with Lt. General Moinul Islam (LGMI), the number two in BD Army, touted to become the number one in June when the current Chief of Staff's 3 year contract expires. Someday a Bangladeshi poet may write, 'Moinu tuney Moinu kia bhai'. But, we cannot wait for the poet and so we need to look at Moinul Islam more closely, now.
Moinul Islam or Moin al Islam, means someone who provides charitable help to the cause of Islam. Let us examine and see what Moinul Islam has on offer. Is Moinul Islam going to live up to his name, the name that his parents so lovingly chose for him, or is he going to provide charitable help to anti-Islamic causes and become a de facto 'Moin al Anti-Islam', in the same sense as Anti-Christ is to Christianity?
LGMI addressed a gathering of civil and army officers organised by a Bangladeshi think tank called Centre for Security and Development Studies (CSDS) on 23 January 2012. Moinul Islam began his address by identifying himself as a 'pious' person. Then LGMI began an academic labelling exercise by picking terminologies circulating in the vernacular press, to apply them on Bangladeshi Muslims. He has decided to label the Muslims of Bangladesh into certain categories. Basically, he categorised Muslims into 'acceptable' and 'unacceptable' categories. He has kindly decided to include the following categories of Muslims into his 'acceptable'category or 'pious' category: Dharma Praan (God loving), Dharma Parayan (practicing religion), Dharma Bhiru (pious, god-fearing).
Then he announced three more categories from his bag, the 'unacceptable': Dharmio Gora (dogmatist), Dharmandho (zealots) and Dharma Baboshayee (someone who exploits religion for something sinister).
LGMI followed this by emphasising that, "In the army, we can accept Dharma Praan and Dharma Parayan, and if we can impart some knowledge to those who are Dharma Bhiru, they too can come along with the first two layers."
Moinul Islam then goes on to clarify that on the basis of the Secular Constitution of Bangladesh "no one will intervene in the religion of others." Moinul Islam has failed to realise that when he embarked on this 'Operation Identify and Label', he himself was in fact interfering in the religion of the Muslim citizens of Bangladesh! A religion to which he thinks he belongs. From the message in his speech one can see that he as a, 'Dharma Parayan' Muslim (he claims to be one) has the right to categorise other Muslims into: Dharma Bhiru, Dharmo Gora and Dharmo Baboshayee. Then he wants carry out a purging or cleansing operation inside the Bangladesh Army and purge all the Muslim army officers he considers to be unacceptable. We need to consider how acceptable is such a proposition to the majority of the Muslims of Bangladesh?
No Muslim can accept that a Dharmo Bhiru Muslim will dare question the wisdom of Allah (swt) and have no fear of Allah (swt). Is Moinul Islam constructing a new dictionary as well? Or is he afraid of some power i.e. Bharat Bhiru or Hindu Bhiru or Obama Bhiru? Definitely Moinul Islam is not Allah Bhiru. Can anyone be a Muslim and not be an Allah Bhiru?
What Moinul Islam should do, is simply go back to the Army GHQ and do some homework, otherwise he himself will be given the proper label that he deserves and that will not serve the cause of anyone living inside this most densely populated country in the world with a population 160 million. If Moinul insists on carrying out the brief that has been handed to him by those who 'Bangal kay High Courter Bhoy Dekhaey' ('showing Bengalees the High Court' a common expression in Bangladesh), then Bangladesh will spiral down in a ghastly scenario of bloody civil war. We have seen a civil war in 1971, and we do not need another one now.
If Moinul wants to apply the Secularist-inspired labels on Bangladeshi Muslims, then he ought to remember, Muslims too will reply by labelling the civilian gazetted officers, commissioned military officers and politicians, with the Islamic terminologies that applies to each one of them. Under a proper and strict Islamic classification system, universally accepted in the Muslim world, many of them will be re-classified as Mushriks (those who associate others with Allah (swt)), Munafeks (hypocrites) and Murtads (apostates). Even some of the Munafek Mullahs who serve the Mushriks and Murtads will face the prospect of appropriate Islamic labelling. It will open the Pandora's Box and push Bangladesh into a long and vicious Neo-civil-war: The dream-come-true-scenario for the Baniyas, Baboos and Raw-wallahs. As a responsible army officer it is the duty of Moinul Islam to prevent such a civil war in Bangladesh, and not promote one actively.
Americans Marines in Kabulistan likes to entertain themselves by pissing on dead Muslim fighters, what Moin is doing may be construed as spitting venom on live Muslim soldiers to entertain his Neo-paymaster. That India now controls Bangladesh is no news. Ex-CSP, and now Finance Minister, Abul Maal Muhith, like the canary in Victorian coal mines, could not help blurting out that the sovereignty of Bangladesh has been curtailed to make room for Indian encroachment! The Bangladeshi Intellectuals are so intoxicated with 'Shadhinotar Chetona', that they do not even notice that Shadhinota is getting whittled away! They are in no mood to quit the cocktail parties at the Indian High Commission. They believe in 'khelaram kheley jaa.'
In this alarming environment, it is no surprise that some Bangladeshi analysts have lost their nerves and bearings, and are beginning to ask the wrong kind of questions. By asking the wrong questions, they end up seeking solutions in the wrong locations. On 24 January, Farhad Mazhar wrote, "My proposition is that indeed we do have an 'Islam-question'. Questions of this genre were first asked in Europe and the question was the well-known 'Jewish Question'. European Christian majority countries never had to pose the 'Christian Question'. This type of questions is always applied to a minority population, never to the majority population.
The very fact that Farhad Mazhar has to raise such an odd question is a very telling indicator of the dire and bankrupt political and intellectual condition inside Bangladesh today. If such a question is to be posed at all in Bangladesh, it should be the 'Hindu Question' and not the 'Muslim Question'. The Hindus of Bangladesh in cahoots with the anti-Islamic Muslims (an oxymoronic term) are hacking away at the sovereignty of Bangladesh in a piecemeal, but concerted, fashion. Only Abul Maal Muhith, like the canary in the coal mine was able to sense it. Abul Maal Muhith seems to be the only cabinet canary who still suffers from 'Shaadhinotar Chetona'. But, even that was not enough to stop Abul Maal Muhith from digging for more coal: He is still in the cabinet and would rather drop dead like the canary in the coal mine than stop digging for coal.
O' Moinul Islam, be Moinul Islam for the sake of Allah (swt) and do not be a Moinul Anti-Islam. What Moinul Islam does not realise is that by planning to rid Bangladesh of the ghosts of Hizbut Tahrir, he himself will become Moinushaitan and will be joining Hizbushaitan. O Moinul Islam! Does the Holy Quran mean anything to you? Did you not swear by the Holy Quran when you pledged to serve the people of Bangladesh? Moinul Islam, it is time to say no to India or the brave and courageous Muslims of Bangladesh will occupy the cantonments and liberate them from all evil hegemonic designs. Remember Bhasani? Do not drive Bangladesh into producing Titu Mir's, Sher Ali's and Abdullah's.

On the 'failed coup' and The General

Based on what one has heard so far about the ˜failed coup in Bangladesh, one will have to concede that our governing honorary Sarva-Darshins are blessed with tri-netra – one of their own, one of their ninjas and yet another of their patron saint, the true Sarva-Darshins and their friends in Seta Dipas. They can see what they need to and many more beside. I have nothing but admiration for their owl's eye.
In our world of virtual reality, it is expected of us, as a prescribed patriotic duty I may add, to join in commending the Mind-Pleasing fellow for communicating his Sarva-Darshins ardent support to our honorary Sarva-Darshins against the diabolical fundies in their salad days. Never mind the lollies that are being currently proffered by the Great and the Good to the hard-nut fundies from another virtual land of the Free. It is beyond our station to question any of these; our required task is to obey our honorary Sarva-Darshins and their patron saints, the true Sarva Darshins come what may. On great occasions we might also get lollies from the Harir Loot by the grace of the 'Shinning Beings' dwelling in another virtual world.
As of the present, we all should be Dharmic in anyone of its three approved forms, not in any of its other three disapproved forms, so said our three-star rated Kartikeya, Lt. Gen. Moinul Islam, who had his ninjutsu in an Aranynak especially set out to give crash-course to our would be honorary Sarva Darshins and had distinguished himself as our Rakkhi before. He has the Shinning Ones shining on him and our political astrologers have already started predicting an even brighter future for him.

So do not ever dare ask him what his three approved forms of piety – Dharma Praan, Dharma Parayan and Dharma Bhiru – are or for that matter disapproved types of anti-piety – Dharmio Gorami, Dharmandho and Dharma Baboshayee -- mean in concrete terms so that you minions could apply them for recruiting ever more obliging minions. Instead, you would be well advised to look into any Bengali etymological dictionary for the meaning of the word Dharma and adjective noun Dharmic.
If any of you are fundy enough to think operationalizing the word pious and its antonyms in terms of your Deen, that is, those of Mumin and Muttaqi on the one hand and those of their antonyms such as Mushrik, Murtad and Munafik on the other, you could very well say goodbye to your career; and with it your windfall from contributing towards the world peace! For, you would not only be guilty of defying the demand of becoming Dharmic but also of tarring your Rakki as being a Munafik.
You may think you understand the implied meaning of the Section 1 of your Constitution and the rendition of your national identity with two ee instead of an˜i in its English version or for that matter read the 13th Amendment as an unambiguous proof of yours being a Muslim nation-state and, therefore, its defenders ethos could not be anything other than that of the Deen, you would be silenced with the accusation of not being Osamprodaik. You may try arguing that Muslims are a qawm or community, not a Samproday within Hinduism; you would be told you should take it as a synonym of secularism and be a modern person to see the entire humankind as brethren.
You may argue that secularism is nothing but another religion, albeit a humanist anti-God religion at that, and your Islam is the testament of your humanitarianism, you would be countered as too argumentative to be part of a disciplined outfit of a modern state committed to turn itself into a digital wonderland with modern gadgetries. You may desperately point out that the idea that religion and modernity cannot function together is a West European make-belief, the banality of which can be recognised by merely looking at the United States and you would be dismissed as being incorrigibly thick headed and forcefully retired from service! If you think in such an eventuality you may ask the High Court to protect your rights, then think of the fertile legal brains of our Jewels in woolsack.

Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullah.
I was told that I am attached to Log Area, Dhaka Cantt with immediate effect. While I was going there after receiving the information from MIST authority, DGFI abducted me from Savar bus stand 3 nights before and kept in custody in an unknown location. I don't know why but few Indian officers also interrogated me. There were more RAW officers than DGFI people that interrogated me. Few even used interpreters. I don't know whether this is called 'an Independent State'!!
After 2 nights, I could trick them about my pen-drive. I pretended to throw that somewhere at Savar bus station. And by Allah's grace, I could manage to escape from there. They did not want that I report to office and take a move order to Log Area and wanted to hide the information of attachment. Although many of the senior officers know about it, they are pretending that they did not know anything.
Now, I know for sure that there are 2 parts in DGFI. One is directly controlled, coordinated by Indian RAW. Other is the apparent face of it. Many of the officers and soldiers serving in DGFI do not know about that. The RAW controlled group is trying to use common officers of DGFI for their interest. Few of the Generals of Dhaka Cantonment are with this evil group.
Even this group has a plan to take control of the whole country, within a short time, may be just after Winter Collective Training. It will be in the name of another "1/11". They want to eliminate both party leaders to have a safe passage this time. Even present government political leaders will not get a share in this, although they are thinking that it will be there "toy" in the field. This evil group is working in a double agent role. The declaration of issuing land documents of AOHS is just a trick to keep the officers sitting at these kinds of situations till the time they take over. There are many things I have seen/ heard these 2 days, will share later on if Allah permits.
They are trying to abduct me again. So, I have to quickly go to some safer place.
My request to all, please pray for me and all abducted officers and inform everybody about this incident, there are dozens of officers abducted in similar fashion by DGFI in past few weeks. But they are hiding all these information from the common members of Armed Forces. Other than officially shown arrest like Lt Col Zaydee, Lt Col Haseen, Lt Col Ehsan Yusuf and so on, there are many officers unofficially arrested / abducted. This is the 2nd phase of planned BDR carnage to get rid of all patriotic and professional officers from Bangladesh Army to achieve their ultimate aim. No such case should go un-noticed from now from the members of Armed Forces and people of Bangladesh.
If anybody can inform these incidents to some newspapers, news channels or human rights organizations, Internet blogs, please inform all these activities of DGFI at recent past. I request all upright officers of Bangladesh Army to report all similar activities of abduction, if required anonymously, to the mass media, Internet, Facebook etc with a way to check back the correctness of the message.
Journalists may confirm the message by:
a. Visiting my house at Mirpur Cantt, building: PALASH (14 storied), House: D-13/1. Army Tel Extension: 4000.
b. Directly talking to MIST authority.
c. By visiting the Old Army Headquarters Mess where some of the arrested officers are kept.

Mid-level Officers of Bangladesh Army are Bringing down Changes Soon
Bangladesh Army, another name of Independence of Bangladesh, is passing a transitional phase. Its sufferings in the recent past from the BDR carnage were the beginning of it. Now, it seems, the transition is coming to a positive end.
The BDR Carnage:
The BDR carnage was a planned massacre on the Army to eliminate many of the bright, upright and capable officers to render it unable to defend the independence of Bangladesh anymore. Some of the corrupt political leaders including few of the Generals and Senior Officers were the local players beside the neighboring foreign Intelligence Agency, RAW. This is an open secret to all ranks of Bangladesh Military Forces and the mass population by this time. The collaborators of BDR massacre are now trying to save its key planners by hiding the real issues, launching mass cases against BDR soldiers, killing those who know the facts. The whole massacre was about a step ahead to make the country a surrogate state of India like 'Sikkim'. These patriotic martyred officers were one of the major obstacles of this vice plan.
Some of the top brass of Bangladesh Army e.g. present CGS General Moinul, DG DGFI Maj General Mamun Khaled, Logistic Area Commander Maj General Reza Noor, Brigadier General Motiur, ADG, DGFI and many others have sold their loyalty to RAW to serve their purpose in this country. DGFI has become, by this time, an active tool of neighboring Intelligence Organization, RAW to achieve this objective of making this country a surrogate state. Some of the senior officials of DGFI are in fact receiving regular salaries and benefits from RAW for doing the job on their behalf. In fact, DGFI is divided into two parts recently. While the common men and officers of DGFI are little aware of the situation, the RAW controlled part of DGFI has setup separate safe houses and facilities to serve their purpose. In many cases RAW is operating in disguise of DGFI with its full consent. The common men and officers of DGFI are highly dissatisfied as they are being misused for the purpose of betraying the nation. They know for sure that in the times of calamity, they are not going to get shelters in neighboring India like the 'payroll agents' who have secured these facilities abroad.
The 2nd phase of BDR Carnage:
Joy, Sheikh Hasina's son making financial scandals in USA, lied when he said: "65 percent soldiers of Bangladesh Army are 'Madrasha' passed students"- to keep some of the Western countries happy on their performance against terrorism. In fact, Joy and other key planners were planning to get rid of all the officers with uprightness, honor and dignity from Bangladesh Army to achieve their ultimate aim. The BDR massacre was the start of it. Now the 2nd phase of BDR massacre is taking place by arresting and abducting, officially and un-officially, the bright officers like Lt Col Haseen, Lt Col Zaydee and retired Lt Col Ehsan Yousuf and so on. Even before this, five officers were arrested and sent to jail with a plea which could not be proved at all. It's an open secret to all that the crime of those five was nothing but their demand of a proper trial of the criminals including the planners of BDR massacre and raising their voice for that purpose. Many other officers had to go for forced retirement, even some with forced 'voluntary retirement' in the recent past. Every week 2/3 officers are being arrested / abducted by DGFI with different plea. Recently, Maj Zia of MIST was arrested and now he is fleeing with his life here and there. On the other hand, some of the serving officers are interviewed by joint team of RAW and DGFI in Chittagong and elsewhere. Nobody knows, how many officers are arrested and abducted in different divisions till now as they have successfully created a mistrust among the officers to not to share these kinds of information.
All these are done with the same aim of rendering the Bangladesh Army ineffective day by day and its ultimate elimination which is a major step to turn Bangladesh into another 'Sikkim'.
Watering Down the Muslim Identity:
Beside this vice plan about Bangladesh Army, they have a plan to erase the Muslim identity of this Army and the mass population at large. Specially, within Army, the Generals and senior officers who are with the 'RAW controlled group' have demonstrated unbecoming attitude towards many of the Muslim practices. Some of those Generals forcefully made young officers to shave their beards.
Officially and unofficially DGFI and other intelligence organizations are making list of personnel who have grown beards. This list is updated and checked almost weekly basis. They portray to all as if growing beard is a crime in this country where as in the neighboring India, many grow beards and put on their turban in all the formal and informal Army gatherings.
They have made separate list of those officers and soldiers who offer five times prayers. These indicate that this wicked group is working as an enemy of Islam and they consider those who offer five times prayer are obstacles to their agenda. Even they have made separate list of those who attend the mosques in Fajr and I'sha prayers. In places, local intelligence staffs attend the five times prayers with their 'walkie-talkie' set turned on with high volumes, to let the people at the mosque know that 'intelligence people are in and around'. Is this possible in an independent Muslim country!!!
Beside the list of officers whose wives adhere to Islamic dress code, Hijab, they have now made a separate list of soldiers whose wives adhere to the same. Slowly and gradually they have created an atmosphere of terror among the adherents of Islamic faith. They have planned to get rid of all practicing Muslim officers and men from this Army for the fear that they will remain as a hindrance to their vice plan. How is it possible that, being fed by the public tax, these culprits openly speak and work against the common religious sentiment of mass population of this country? Some says, it is because "the common officers and men were silent spectators to all these".
Why this group is doing all these is an also very important. They know from history that if the Muslim identity of this Army and country as a whole remains intact, then their dream of turning this country into another 'Sikkim' will never come true. So, their second objective is watering down the Muslim identity of this Army and the country.
Worsening Situation of the Country:
The signs and symptoms of this vice plan of turning this country into another 'Sikkim' at national level are: giving away transit facilities to India without any financial benefits by destroying many of the river channels and road systems, reducing the presence of the Army at the Chittagong Hill Tracts, erasing 'bismillah' and 'reliance upon Allah' from the constitution, security operations of Indian security forces in Sylhet and elsewhere inside the country denying the rights of an independent state, formulating women and education policies against the religious customs and norms of mass population, saving the culprits of share market scandals, zero resistance against illegal 'Tipai Mukh' dam, no resistance against regular killing of innocent Bangladeshi population by Indian Border Security Forces (BSF) and destroying the whole economic system of the country etc. These are not the ends rather these are the introduction of the incoming phases. If they go unchallenged, Bangladesh will witness these kinds of events in manifolds. If these are not attacks on the independence of a state, then what are these? If Bangladesh Army is receiving its salary to defend the independence of the country, then it must act in these kinds of situations.
What's coming next?
Obviously, all Army Generals are not with this wicked group. So, the RAW controlled group considers those outside them to be obstacles to their vicious plan. So, they are going to sack, forcefully retire those senior Generals who are not with them, just after the Winter Collective Training (WCT). The time line is WCT because those Generals may move against them upon receiving such decisions as they are with troops deployed on the ground and it's easier to move out from the exercise areas.
After neutralizing these Generals, they will get hold of other senior and mid-level officers whom they consider obstacles to their path. They have a plan about the student officers of MIST, those recently passed or presently studying there, to remove them from the service in any way. They will create an issue against each and every one of them, the way they created false issues against the five officers sent to jail or Lt Col Haseen etc. That is their ultimate tool to manage the naive ones. The declaration of handing over the land documents of Army Officers Housing Society (AOHS) is their trump card to keep everybody satisfied and dreaming till that time.
After dealing with the Army, they are going to eliminate Khaleda Zia, half of the 'Minus Two Formula'. The next half of the same formula will take place after the 2nd so called '1/11' in the plea of saving the country. Although they would like to do it with the consent of Sheikh Hasina, they want to eliminate her either to have a free run. Indian RAW, by this time, is sure that the present government cannot deliver them their desired fruits by going against the public demands. So, they have chosen their other alternative, the proxies from the Army - this time more decisively then the previous '1/11 group'. Major General Mamun Khaled is now making a new palace at his Army residence at Dhaka cantonment with a desire to stay there for coming decades and to rule the country.
The Mid-Level Officers' Plans:
The mid-level officers (Lt Col and below) have decided to rise up in this grave situation of the Army and the motherland itself. Otherwise, the Bangladesh Army and the independence of this country are at a stake.
They will get hold of the planners of BDR mutiny first and bring them to justice and free the BDR soldiers who are not defaulters. Since, this mass-arrest is an obstacle created by this wicked group to deny justice for the original criminals.
They will also free all the illegally detained officers and men at the earliest opportunity. All the officers and men unduly sacked and forcefully retired will be reverted in the Army immediately.
They will stop the present fraud Army Officers Housing Society (AOHS) project in which land is forcefully occupied with the help of criminals. Rather they have decided to convert all the existing 'Golf Grounds' to Army Housing Society. For a poor country like Bangladesh, maintaining huge Golf Grounds is a foolish luxury. These are the places where serving Army Generals turn into diplomats and politicians, rather than true soldiers.
All training in the Army will be realistic from now onwards basing on 'what we have', not on 'what we are supposed to have'.
The leadership of the Army will be handed over to the existing Army Generals who are honest, dynamic, non-partisan and true patriotic soldiers.
All diplomatic ties with India will be freeze until they stop killing of innocent Bangladeshi population and hand over the killers of BDR massacre. Furthermore, they will be forced to comply with the International norms and standards regarding sharing of river-water and constructing dams. All transit facilities will be freeze until Bangladesh receives similar facilities from India or proportional financial benefits.
The diplomatic relations with all other friendly nations will remain as usual with mutual benefits and understanding.
All activities against the religious sentiment of mass population in the country as a whole and in the Army are going to be stopped immediately.
'Bismilla' and 'the reliance upon Allah' will be reinstituted in the constitution with immediate effect. Recent controversial policies regarding women and education etc will be reviewed with competent Islamic scholars to get rid of all the articles against the religious sentiment of mass population of the country.
The culprits of share market scandals will be brought to justice and will be forced to pay back the stolen money of the general mass.
All the public sectors of Bangladesh will be run with the views and recommendations of a body of experts of the concerned fields.
What Now?
Interestingly, some of the Army Generals are already taking sides with mid-level officers sensing the impending changes. They have vowed their help and support to the mid-level officers in this grave situation of the Army and the country.
Since, the hypocrites are always afraid and weak; the mid-level officers think that they can bring down all necessary changes to put Bangladesh Army and the country at the right track. The mid-level officers have requested all ranks and files of Bangladesh Armed Forces and the patriotic population of the country to join them in this 'call of duty', similar to the Liberation War.
They have requested all the common officers and men to ensure that none of the culprits can flee away once they move out. They have vowed to get hold of the agents of the wicked group at first to stop any kind of betrayal in between the process.

There are some unexpected incidents happening for some days. We don't know what's the truth.
I have included all the email that Maj. Zia published. We should think this matter so deeply. Before happening BDR carnage nobody knows that it will happen. But after happening that everybody knows.
From Maj. Zia's email we see that if he can't escaped from there & can't spread out these email then we we don't know what can be happened!!! As he knows everything & speread out these so he is in a trap now.

Sheikh Hasina Wazed is aware that public support for her administration is sliding fast. Many experts, in their writings and talks shows, compared the country's existing situation with that of pre-August 1975, some even saying it to be worse. But she will do everything possible and use all tools at her disposal in her attempts to cling to power. Some measures have been detailed in Part Two of this series.
Next election is at least two years away. Whatever complacency the opposition may hold regarding AL's debacle next time round, Hasina and her sponsors are not sitting idle.
She has an obliging judiciary, a loyal bureaucracy, a tamed military and ready-to-comply law enforcing agencies. (To make the police happy and to her side, she just announced to upgrade the Thana OCs to Class I officers and Sub-Inspectors to Class II.) Above all, it has a one-sided legislature that is engaged in self-praising and hero-worshipping.
If Sheikh Hasina perceives no prospect of winning next elections, her fallback strategy, or her last nail on the coffin--- moron kamor---will be to create another pre-1/11 situation with a view to inviting extra judicial authority to step in. She expects her trusted Rakkhi Bahini product and executioner of 1/11 palace coup in 2007, General Masud Uddin Chowdhury, will then be handy. The general has been recalled from his diplomatic assignment in Australia and reverted to the army. According to rumor, he is likely to take over the army command in a few months, if there is no technical hitch in extending his service. He is not likeable in military hierarchy, though.
Bangladesh could not yet resolve its outstanding issues with India, yet the 'big brother' got its much sought after corridor/transit and re-routing of the Asian Highway to her benefit. Teesta sharing could not be agreed because of opposition by West Bengal's Momota Banerjee. Tipaimukh is proceeding as planned, exposing the northeastern part of the country to 'farakka effect'. Indian RAW is Omni-present in the country, even in the military. Can our think tank, whatever left to be sold out, visualize where we are heading?
Opposition movements, in the face of administrative repression and reprisals, made little dents so far to government's autocratic practices. The opposition needs not only to match the strategy of the administration; it should also aim at gaining an advantage. BNP may consider a few steps to regain and strengthen its image.
BNP needs to work on its 2001 strategy, learning from the debacle of 2008.
In 2001, out of 56 million votes, BNP had 23 million (41.5%), making a comfortable number of 193 in the parliament. The opposition AL got 22 million (40%) but managed only 62 seats. One million votes made a difference of 131 seats!
(In the elections in 2008, out of nearly 70 million votes cast, 33 million (48%) went to AL, converting to 232 parliamentary seats. 23 million (32%) voted for BNP, humbling it to mere 32 seats. 10 million votes made a difference of 200 seats in the House.
Additionally, even though 14 million additional votes cast in 2008, BNP failed to benefit from this increased turnout, for whatever reasons. There were umpteen analyses for that sea change in political landscape, which surprised even the winners. Things need to go right the next time round.)
Unlike the urban gentry, which try to shy away from voting fearing trouble, the general public and rural mass usually flock to the polling booths, or brought to the centers by interested parties. They look at it as a celebration. These are the people who will make the difference in the number of seats. According to reports, BNP has a better grass-root hold, which must be nurtured and strengthened.
In politics, honesty is perhaps a rare commodity. One would need a powerful microscope to locate an honest one, if any, in Bangladesh. One of the reasons for BNP's poor performance in 2008, according to most analysts, was the wrong doings by some of its prominent leaders during its immediate past term. The Hawa Bhaban came under scrutiny, albeit with malicious intent. No doubt the allegations have been inflated by the authorities that be, but they could not have come from vacuum either. Ja rote, ta kichu to bote.
Situation during the Awami time was no better. Today, it is unprecedented, pukur churi, as the US, the World Bank, the Westmont Group of Malaysia, among others, had to step in to check government's corruptive practices.
Finger pointing apart, BNP's well-wishers feel that the party should address the issue seriously and attempt at cleaning its house, as far as possible.
BNP may consider the following three things immediately:
One: Soul-searching. People do make mistakes by oversight or whatever reasons, but it certainly is gracious to admit mistakes, if any. Contrary to the feeling that such a step will give ammunition to the adversaries to malign, I am of the opinion that it is better to come out clean rather than harboring a guilty conscious. Remember Sheikh Hasina in 1996, her apology for past mistakes, her hezab and tasbih following Makkah-Madina trips and went begging for votes, at least once? Bangladeshis are largely gullible. Dipu Moni started the ghomta already.
Two: Housecleaning. I believe corruption is going to be a core issue in the next election.
The Arab Spring Uprisings, the Occupy Wall Street/Cities/Towns engulfing the developed word, the Anna Hazare Movement in India, the Imran Khan Rallies in Pakistan---all have one thing in common: root out corruption. It has become a global issue today. Fighting corruption should be BNP's number one goal, as such. Simultaneously, the party should take drastic action against its known and proven culprits, whoever they are. In addition, the party should rid itself of inactive, ineffective and irrelevant leaders. These are imperatives for public confidence building.
Three: Try War Criminals. The way the government of Awami League is conducting the trial of war crimes is unacceptable. It is a political trial, done with controversial and partisan judges and lawyers. Nevertheless, punishing the war criminals is a national demand, a demand past due. Therefore, BNP should make a formal commitment to try the war criminals of 1971. It should make a declaration that it will reconstitute the International War Criminal Act, conforming to international norms and standard and re-assemble the Tribunal with independent, impartial and credible judges. If need be, eminent international jurists be incorporated in it. The real culprits, whosoever they are, should be brought to book, subject to credible and verifiable investigations and evidences. The accused should have access to any counselor, local or international. No political motive, no witch-hunting to be allowed.
War criminals should be seen differently from their membership to any party. Jamaat-e-Islam is a political party and should have every right to function like any other party. BNP should continue its alliance with the Jamaat and other like-minded parties. Few will disagree that Jamaat is a highly disciplined party and its leaders are less corruptive.

Our Army watching everything and will be with the people when it's necessary, they never betray national interest. They are neither pro-Indian nor pro-Pakistani rather pro-Bangladeshi. We must trust them. They can't be purchased by any foreign power or foreign spy agency. They will definitely protect the people and interest of the republic at any cost. They won't accept any hanky panky from any vested intererst group. They are the ultimate protectors of Bangladesh after Allah Rabbul Alamin.They remained with the people in the past and will remain so in coming days.
Finally, our military will never become another Rokkhi Bahini to protect a specific family.

Fanatics in the Bangladesh army!

In the wake of the recent coup in the Bangladesh army, we are now hearing the phrase Islamic fanatic quite often. We feel bewildered to see all these incidents involving our heroic army. Through the BBR carnage in early 2009, our defence and border security were weakened significantly. Now we smell another drama designed to further weaken the army.
What we understand is that, a weak Bangladesh army is a blessing for India, and it is India that is now running our country. For the past few years, the Indian media and intelligentsia with the collaboration of some influential Bangladeshis (both resident and non-resident) have launched a propaganda to tell the world that there are fanatics in the Bangladesh army.
Fanatics exists in all groups of people and in all human societies. However, by the word fanatics in the context of Bangladesh army, India and its lickspittles in Bangladesh refer to those people in the Bangladesh army who are opposed to Indian hegemony and continuous exploitation of Bangladesh. Given India's naked exploitations of Bangladesh on all fronts, no patriotic Bangladeshi army personnel can love the Indian regime. In India's bid to destroy our defence and border security, we may hear more of such chaos and disorder in the Bangladesh army.

ব্যর্থ হোক আর না হোক, কয়েক ডজন অভ্যুত্থান গত চল্লিশ বছরে বাংলাদেশকে মোকাবেলা করতে হয়েছে। তবে গত ১৯ জানুয়ারি তারিখে একজন সেনা মুখপাত্রের এক অভ্যুত্থানের বিস-ৃত বর্ণনা দেওয়া খুবই অস্বাভাবিক ব্যাপার (ইকোনমিস্ট, ২০ জানুয়ারি ২০১২)।
গত দিনের এই লেখার প্রথম কিসি-তে বোঝাতে চেয়েছি 'বিশৃংখলা' এবং 'অভ্যুত্থান' আক্ষরিক দিক থেকে সমার্থক নয়, এটা আমরা সহজেই বুঝি। কিন' সেটা গুর"ত্বপূর্ণ নয়। আসল গুর"ত্ব হ"েছ সংবিধানের পঞ্চদশ সংশোধনীর পর সংবিধান ও আইনের দিক থেকে উভয়ের পার্থক্যের তাৎপর্য। আইনমন্ত্রী ব্যারিস্টার শফিক আহমেদও বিচার প্রশাসন প্রশিক্ষণ ইনস্টিটিউটে এক অনুষ্ঠান শেষে সাংবাদিকদের বলেছেন, সেনাবাহিনীতে ব্যর্থ সেনা অভ্যুত্থানচেষ্টায় বেসামরিক কেউ জড়িত থাকলে রাষ্ট্রদ্রোহের অভিযোগে তাদেরও বিচারের আওতায় আনা হবে। তিনি ঠিকই বলেছেন, 'সংবিধানের পঞ্চম ও সপ্তম সংশোধনীর পরে সংবিধান ও আদালতের বির"দ্ধে সংঘটিত এ ধরনের অপরাধ রাষ্ট্রদ্রোহের শামিল' (মানবজমিন, ২৯ জানুয়ারি ২০১২)। পঞ্চদশ সংশোধনী অনুযায়ী অপরাধীরা সেই ক্ষেত্রে 'সর্বো"চ দণ্ডে দণ্ডিত' হবে, অর্থাৎ তাদের মৃত্যুদণ্ড দেওয়া হবে।
সেনাবাহিনীর পক্ষ থেকে বৃহস্পতিবার বিকেলে সংবাদ সম্মেলন অনুষ্ঠানের কিছু সময় পরে রাষ্ট্রীয় বার্তা সংস'া বাসস খবর জানায় যে, প্রধানমন্ত্রী শেখ হাসিনা প্রধান বিরোধী দল বিএনপি ষড়যন্ত্রের সঙ্গে জড়িত বলে মন-ব্য করেছেন। তিনি সম্ভবত এই সংবাদ সম্মেলনের জন্য অপেক্ষা করছিলেন। শনিবারও প্রধানমন্ত্রী আবার ষড়যন্ত্রের কথা বলেন। শুক্রবার রেলমন্ত্রী সুরঞ্জিত সেনগুপ্ত এবং পরে আইনমন্ত্রী ব্যারিস্টার শফিক আহমেদ, পররাষ্ট্রমন্ত্রী ডা. দীপুমনিসহ মন্ত্রিসভার আরো অনেক সদস্য প্রধানমন্ত্রীর বক্তব্যের সূত্র ধরে নির্বাচিত সরকারকে উৎখাত করবার জন্য ষড়যন্ত্র চলছে বলে দাবি করতে থাকেন। অর্থাৎ সেনাসদরের তরফে সংবাদ সম্মেলনে যে অভিযোগ তোলা হয়েছে তারা সেই অভিযোগটাকেই বিএনপির বির"দ্ধে রাজনৈতিক প্রচারে ব্যবহার করতে শুর" করেন।
জানুয়ারির ২০ তারিখে ভারতের আনন্দবাজার পত্রিকার খবরে দুটো ব্যাপার খোলাসা হয়ে যায়। তাদের প্রতিবেদনের শিরোনাম ছিল : 'উঠেছে খালেদা-পুত্রের নাম : ষড়যন্ত্র হলে হাসিনার পাশেই থাকবে দিল্লি'। স্পষ্ট করেই জানিয়ে দেওয়া হোল, 'শেখ হাসিনাকে সরানোর চেষ্টা হলে, তাকে সব রকম সাহায্য করার সিদ্ধান- নিয়েছেন প্রধানমন্ত্রী মনমোহন সিংহ। বাংলাদেশ সরকারকেও সেই বার্তা দেওয়া হয়েছে'। শেখ হাসিনার পক্ষে কোন দেশ থাকুক বা না থাকুক গণতান্ত্রিক ভাবে সরকার পরিবর্তনের যে নির্বাচনী নীতি রয়েছে তার বরখেলাফ করে শেখ হাসিনাকে ক্ষমতা থেকে সরানো হোলে বিশ্বের সব দেশই নিন্দা করবে। তা ছাড়া বাংলাদেশের জনগণ সেনা অভ্যুত্থান আদৌ সমর্থন করবে কি না সন্দেহ। কিন' আনন্দবাজার বলছে, শেখ হাসিনাকে ক্ষমতা থেকে সরাবার চেষ্টা হলে দিল্লি তাকে 'সবরকম সাহায্য' করবার সিদ্ধান- নিয়েছে। বাংলাদেশ একটি স্বাধীন-সার্বভৌম দেশ। তার মানে কি এই যে শেখ হাসিনার সরকারকে টিকিয়ে রাখার জন্য দিল্লি সেনাবাহিনী পাঠাবে?
'সবরকমের সাহায্য বলতে এটাও বোঝায়। দ্বিতীয় যে ব্যাপারটি আনন্দবাজার খোলাসা করে দিয়েছে সেটা হোল- বাংলাদেশে দিল্লির গোয়েন্দা নজরদারি তীক্ষ্ণ। মূলত ভারতীয় গোয়েন্দা সংস'ার সহায়তাতেই সেনা অভ্যুত্থান নস্যাৎ করে দেওয়া সম্ভব হয়েছে। এই বিশৃংখলা বা অভ্যুত্থান নস্যাৎ করে দেবার ক্ষেত্রে ভারতীয় গোয়েন্দাদের সহযোগিতা ছিল। তাদের ভাষায়, 'সেনা অভ্যুত্থান ভেসে- দেওয়ার পিছনে ভারতের তরফ থেকেও গোয়েন্দা তথ্য ছিল'। বলা হয়েছে, 'হিজবুত তাহরীর, জামাতে ইসলাম ও খালেদা জিয়ার নেতৃত্বাধীন প্রধান বিরোধী দল বিএনপি একজোট হয়ে কাজ করছে। গোটা ঘটনার মাথা হিসেবে উঠে আসছে প্রাক্তন প্রধানমন্ত্রী খালেদা জিয়ার পুত্র তারেক রহমানের নামও।' এই অভিযোগ সত্য না মিথ্যা সেটা বিচার করা আমাদের কাজ নয়। তদন- চলছে, এই বিষয়ে তদনে-র স্বার্থে আমাদের নীরব থাকাই সমীচীন। কিন' আনন্দবাজারের এই তথ্যের গুর"ত্বপূর্ণ দিক হ"েছ- এই অভিযোগ শুধু বাংলাদেশের গোয়েন্দাদের নয়। দুই দেশের গোয়েন্দাদেরই যৌথ তথ্য এটা। দুই দেশের গোয়েন্দারা যে একজোট হয়ে কাজ করছে, তারই ভিত্তিতে আনন্দবাজার এই খবর ছেপেছে। আনন্দবাজার পত্রিকার এই প্রতিবেদনের বির"দ্ধে সেনাসদর থেকে কোন প্রতিবাদ আমার চোখে পড়ে নি।
এবার যদি পুরা ঘটনা প্রকাশ হবার আগে ফিরে যাই তাহলে দেখব বিডিআর হত্যাকাণ্ড, সেনাবাহিনীর ভবিষ্যৎ নিয়ে উৎকণ্ঠা, দেশের সামগ্রিক পরিসি'তি এবং পেশাগত স্বার্থের ক্ষোভের কথা বাদ দিলে সেনাবাহিনীতে ভারতীয় গোয়েন্দাদের তৎপরতা বাংলাদেশের সেনাবাহিনীতে অসি'রতা ও 'বিশৃঙ্খলা' সৃষ্টির প্রধান কারণ। তা ছাড়া বাংলাদেশ সীমানে- ক্রমাগত বাংলাদেশী নাগরিকদের হত্যা ও নির্যাতন তো আছেই। সেনাসদরের সংবাদ সম্মেলনের পরদিনই আনন্দবাজার পত্রিকার প্রতিবেদন পরিসি'তি অনুধাবন করতে আমাদের খুব কাজে আসে।
আমরা জানি, মেজর জিয়াউল হক নিজেকে ৪১ বিএমএ লং কোর্সের একজন অফিসার দাবি করে ফেসবুক ও ইন্টারনেটে বক্তব্য প্রকাশ করেছেন। ফেস বুক ও ইন্টারনেটে প্রচারিত মেজর জিয়ার বক্তব্য অনুযায়ী তাঁকে একটি গোয়েন্দা সংস'ার সদস্যরা অপহরণ করেছিল। দুই দিন দুই রাত আটক রাখার পর কৌশলে সেখান থেকে তিনি পালিয়ে আসতে সক্ষম হন। এটা তাঁর দাবি, কিন' ঘটনার জটিলতা এখান থেকেই শুর"। মিলিটারি ইনস্টিটিউট অব সায়েন্স অ্যান্ড টেকনোলজিতে কোর্স শেষে বদলিকৃত রেজিমেন্টে যোগদানের পথে তিনি অপহৃত হন বলে তিনি তার লেখালিখিতে দাবি করেন। তুলে নেয়ার পর অজ্ঞাত স'ানে রেখে চোখ বেঁধে তাকে টানা জিজ্ঞাসাবাদ করা হয়। তার প্রকাশিত বর্ণনা অনুযায়ী বাংলাদেশীদের পাশাপাশি পাশের একটি দেশের গোয়েন্দা সংস'ার সদস্যও উপসি'ত ছিল সেখানে। দোভাষীর মাধ্যমে জিজ্ঞাসাবাদের সময় পাশের রাষ্ট্রের গোয়েন্দা সংস'ার সদস্যরা এমন কিছু তথ্য মেজর জিয়ার কাছে জানতে চেয়েছে, যা একটি স্বাধীন দেশের নিরাপত্তার জন্য অত্যন- সংবেদনশীল বলে মেজর জিয়া তাঁর জবানবন্দিতে উল্লেখ করেছেন। তার প্রকাশিত লেখায় তিনি আরো বলেন, লে. কর্নেল যায়ীদ, লে. কর্নেল হাসিন ও লে. কর্নেল এহসান ইউসুফ নামে আরো তিন সেনা অফিসারকে গ্রেফতার দেখিয়ে দীর্ঘদিন ধরে বন্দি করে রাখা হয়েছে।
এই লেখা ইন্টারনেটে ছড়াতে থাকে। দৈনিক আমার দেশ ৩ জানুয়ারি তাদের একটি প্রতিবেদনে জানিয়েছে, ঘটনাটির সত্যতা নির্ণয় করবার জন্য তারা সরাসরি ক্যান্টনমেন্টে ও মেজর জিয়ার লেখায় উল্লিখিত বাসার ঠিকানায় যাবার চেষ্টা করে বিফল হয়। গেটে বসিয়ে রেখে তাদের বলা হয়, সাংবাদিক প্রবেশ নিষেধ। জানানো হয়, ওপরের কর্তৃপক্ষের আগাম অনুমতি ছাড়া যাওয়া যাবে না। পত্রিকাটি ২ জানুয়ারি বিকাল ৩টা ৪৭ মিনিটে আন-ঃবাহিনী জনসংযোগ বিভাগেও মেজর জিয়ার অভিযোগগুলোর সত্যতা জানতে ফোন করে। তখন পত্রিকাটিকে জানানো হয়, আন-ঃবাহিনী জনসংযোগ বিভাগ থেকে কিছুই বলা যাবে না। সেনা সদর দফতর বা সামরিক গোয়েন্দা পরিদফতর মেজর জিয়ার বিষয় জানাতে পারবে বলে জানানো হয়।
সেনা অফিসারদের বিনা বিচারে ক্যান্টনমেন্টের ভেতরে বন্দি করে রাখা প্রসঙ্গে দৈনিক আমার দেশ সাবেক সেনাকর্মকর্তা এবং এখন সুপ্রিম কোর্টে আইন পেশায় নিয়োজিত ব্যারিস্টার সারোয়ার হোসেনের কাছে তাঁর মতামতও জানতে চায়। তিনি আমার দেশকে বলেন, '১৫০ দিনের বেশি সময় ধরে লে. কর্নেল পদমর্যাদার দুই অফিসার আটক আছেন বলে তিনিও জানতে পেরেছেন। তিনি আরো বলেন, যতটুকু জানি এদের একজন গত ৯ জুলাই ও আরেকজন ১২ জুলাই কর্মরত অবস'ায় গ্রেফতার হন। তবে তাদের বির"দ্ধে কোনো বিচার শুর" হয়নি। সেনা বিধান অনুযায়ী আইনি প্রক্রিয়া এবং সেই বিধান ও প্রক্রিয়ার অধীনে প্রযোজ্য মানবাধিকার প্রসঙ্গে তাঁর বক্তব্য হ"েছ, ১৯৫২ সালের আর্মি অ্যাক্টের ৭৫ ধারা অনুযায়ী, অভিযোগের ভিত্তিতে সেনা অফিসারদের গ্রেফতার করা যায়। এ ধারায়ই বলা আছে, গ্রেফতারের ৮ দিনের ভেতর কোর্টমার্শাল গঠন করতে হবে। ৮ দিনের মধ্যে কোর্টমার্শাল গঠন করা সম্ভব না হলে উপযুক্ত কারণ ঊর্ধ্বতন কর্তৃপক্ষকে জানানোর বাধ্যবাধকতা রয়েছে আইনে। তিনি বলেন, আইনেই বলা আছে, যৌক্তিক সময়ের মধ্যে কোর্টমার্শাল গঠন করতে না পারলে আটক ব্যক্তিদের মুক্ত করে দিতে হবে। ব্যারিস্টার সারোয়ার হোসেন বলেন, ১৫০ দিন পার হয়ে যাওয়ার পরও তাদের বির"দ্ধে কোর্টমার্শাল গঠন করা সম্ভব হয়নি। এতে অনুমান করা যায় প্রমাণ করার মতো কোনো অভিযোগ এ অফিসারদের বির"দ্ধে নেই। প্রমাণের মতো অভিযোগ থাকলে কোর্ট মার্শাল গঠন হয়ে যেত।'
দৈনিক আমার দেশ পত্রিকা সত্যতা নির্ণয়ের এই অভিজ্ঞতা এবং সেনা অফিসারদের গ্রেফতারের পর ১৫০ দিন পেরিয়ে যাবার পরেও কোন কোর্টমার্শাল গঠিত না হওয়া সম্পর্কে ব্যারিস্টার সারোয়ার হোসেনের বক্তব্য প্রতিবেদন হিশাবে প্রকাশ করার পরই গত ৪ জানুয়ারি আন-ঃবাহিনী জনসংযোগ পরিদফতর (আইএসপিআর) এক সংবাদ বিজ্ঞপ্তিতে জানায় যে, ই-মেইলে অপহরণের অভিযোগকারী মেজর জিয়ার বির"দ্ধে গ্রেফতারি পরোয়ানা জারি করা হয়েছে। এর আগে তারা কিছু বলেন নি। ওই সংবাদ বিজ্ঞপ্তিতে বলা হয়, এমআইএসটি থেকে কোর্স সম্পন্ন শেষে বদলিকৃত ইউনিট ৩ই বেঙ্গলে যোগদানের জন্য মেজর জিয়াকে যাবার আদেশ দেয়া হয়। পরে সেনা শৃঙ্খলাপরিপন'ী কার্যকলাপের সঙ্গে জড়িত থাকার অভিযোগে তাকে তখন সদর দফতর লজিস্টিক এরিয়া, ঢাকা সেনানিবাসে সংযুক্তি আদেশ প্রদান করা হয়। এই আদেশ অনুযায়ী মেজর জিয়া সদর দফতর লজিস্টিক এরিয়ায় যোগদান না করে পলাতক রয়েছেন; এই কারণেই সেনা আইন অনুযায়ী এরই মধ্যে তার বির"দ্ধে গ্রেফতারি পরোয়ানা জারি করা হয়েছে। আইএসপিআরের সংবাদ বিজ্ঞপ্তিতে আরো জানানো হয়, সেনাবাহিনীতে কর্মরত লে. কর্নেল যায়ীদ ও লে. কর্নেল হাসিনকেও শৃঙ্খলাপরিপন'ী কার্যকলাপে জড়িত থাকার অপরাধে সেনা আইনের সংশ্লিষ্ট বিধান অনুযায়ী গ্রেফতার করা হয়। গ্রেফতারের পরপরই গত ১১ জুলাই ২০১১ তারিখে একটি উ"চপর্যায়ের তদন- আদালত গঠন করা হয়। আদালত সুষ্ঠু তদন- শেষে তাঁদের বক্তব্য যথাযথ কর্তৃপক্ষের কাছে পেশ করেন এবং উক্ত বক্তব্যের ভিত্তিতে লে. কর্নেল হাসিনের বির"দ্ধে ১১ ডিসেম্বর ২০১১ তারিখে একটি ফিল্ড জেনারেল কোর্টমার্শাল গঠন করা হয়; তার বিচারকার্যক্রম চলছে। এই বক্তব্যে দেখা যায়, আট দিনের মধ্যে কোর্টমার্শাল গঠনের বিধান পালিত হয়েছে কি না সেই মৌলিক প্রশ্নটা উহ্য। এই বিধান পালিত না হলেও আইএসপিআরের বিজ্ঞপ্তিতে বলা হয়েছে, পত্রিকায় উল্লিখিত 'অভিযুক্ত অফিসারদের বির"দ্ধে কোনরূপ বিচারকার্যক্রম শুর" হয়নি এবং ১৫০ দিন পার হওয়ার পরও তাদের বির"দ্ধে কোর্টমার্শাল গঠন করা সম্ভব হয়নি' মর্মে প্রকাশিত বক্তব্য সঠিক নয়।
এরপর গত ৫ জানুয়ারি দৈনিক আমার দেশে আন-ঃবাহিনী জনসংযোগ পরিদফতরের বরাত দিয়ে 'মেজর জিয়ার নামে গ্রেফতারি পরোয়ানা জারি হয়েছে' শীর্ষক আইএসপিআরের বক্তব্যের একাংশের প্রতিবাদ জানিয়েছেন লে. কর্নেল যায়ীদের ছোট ভাই আ. আ. জাবিদ। এক প্রতিবাদ বিজ্ঞপ্তিতে তিনি জানান, তার ভাই যায়ীদ পিএসসি, এমডিএস, এসএ, বিএসবিএএ (এমআইএস, টি.আইবিএ)-কে গত ১০ জুলাই ২০১১ তারিখে ছুটিতে থাকা অবস'ায় পিঠে অস্ত্র ঠেকিয়ে ঢাকা সেনানিবাসের সরকারি বাসভবন থেকে তুলে নেয়া হয়। তিন-চার দিন পর পরিবারের লোকজন বিষয়টি জানতে পারেন। সেই থেকে প্রায় ছয় মাস বা ১৮০ দিন অতিবাহিত হয়েছে। অদ্যাবধি তার ভাইয়ের বির"দ্ধে কোনো চার্জ বা অভিযোগ আনতে পারে নাই। তাই যায়ীদ সম্পর্কে আইএসপিআরের বক্তব্য সম্পূর্ণ অসত্য ও বিভ্রানি-মূলক। আ. আ. জাবিদ তার প্রতিবাদ বিজ্ঞপ্তিতে আরো বলেন, সামরিক কর্মকর্তাকে তদনে-র জন্য আটক করার প্রয়োজন পড়ে না। তাকে শুধুমাত্র লগ এরিয়াতে অ্যাটাচমেন্ট করলেই হয়। একটি কক্ষে বহুসংখ্যক সৈনিক দ্বারা তালাবদ্ধ অবস'ায় কেন লে. কর্নেল যায়ীদকে আটক রাখা হয়েছে- এর ব্যাখ্যা চান তিনি।
পত্রিকায় আমি যেভাবে পড়েছি সেভাবেই বিষয়গুলো হাজির করছি। আমরা দেখছি পুরা ঘটনাঘটনের মধ্যে মূল বিষয় হ"েছ- এক. সেনাবাহিনীতে ভারতীয় গোয়েন্দাদের সক্রিয় ভূমিকা আনন্দবাজার পত্রিকার বক্তব্যের সঙ্গে যার কোন অসঙ্গতি নাই; দুই. সেনা আইনের অধীনে সৈনিকদের সামরিক আদালতে সুবিচার পাবার অধিকার- যা মানবাধিকারের প্রশ্নের সঙ্গে জড়িত এবং তিন. বিচার ছাড়া আটক রাখা এবং আটক রাখার পরেও অভিযুক্তের আত্মীয়-স্বজনদের তা না জানতে দেওয়া বা অস্বীকার করা।
বাংলাদেশের সেনাবাহিনীতে ভারতীয় গোয়েন্দাদের ভূমিকা শুধু সেনাবাহিনীর উদ্বেগের বিষয় নয়, বাংলাদেশের যেকোন নাগরিকেরই উৎকণ্ঠার বিষয়। গুজব মাত্রই সেনাবাহিনীর জন্য ক্ষতিকর। দৈনিক আমার দেশ সকল প্রকার গুজব নিরসন করবার জন্যই আসলে সেনাবাহিনীতে কী ঘটছে তা সেনাবাহিনীর কাছেই জানতে চেয়েছে। কিন' নাগরিকদের উৎকণ্ঠা নিরসন করবার জন্য দৈনিক আমার দেশের ভূমিকাকে দমন করবার জন্য প্রথমে যে কাজটি করা হয় সেটা হোল- মামলা। গত ৮ জানুয়ারি সেনাবাহিনীর ভাবমূর্তি খর্ব ও সম্মানহানির অভিযোগ এনে আমার দেশ পত্রিকার ভারপ্রাপ্ত সম্পাদক মাহমুদুর রহমান, প্রকাশক আলহাজ মো: হাসমত আলী ও বিশেষ প্রতিনিধির বির"দ্ধে ঢাকার সিএমএম আদালতে মামলা করেন একজন সাবেক সেনাকর্মকর্তা মেজর (অব:) শাহ আলম তালুকদার। মামলায় তার অভিযোগ হ"েছ- ৩ জানুয়ারি দৈনিক আমার দেশ পত্রিকায় 'মেজর জিয়াকে নিয়ে রহস্য' শিরোনামের সংবাদে বলা হয়েছে, মেজর জিয়া সম্পর্কে জানতে আন্তঃবাহিনী জনসংযোগ বিভাগে যোগাযোগ করা হলে দৈনিক আমার দেশকে বলা হয়, পরিচালক সাহেব মিটিংয়ে আছেন। মেজর জিয়া সম্পর্কে জানতে চাইলে বলা হয়, 'মেজর জিয়া সম্পর্কে কোন তথ্য দেয়া যাবে না'। সাবেক এই সেনাকর্মকর্তার দাবি হ"েছ- দৈনিক আমার দেশের এই সংবাদটি সম্পূর্ণ মিথ্যা, বানোয়াট ও মানহানিকর। প্রকৃতপক্ষে পত্রিকা অফিস থেকে জানতে চাইলে সেনা কর্তৃপক্ষ থেকে বলা হয়েছে, 'নিয়ম মোতাবেক কর্তৃপক্ষের মাধ্যমে আনুষঙ্গিক দাপ্তরিক কার্য সম্পাদন অনে- অফিসিয়ালি যাবতীয় তথ্য জানানো হবে। মেজর জিয়া সংশ্লিষ্ট কর্মস'লে যোগদান না করায় তাঁর বির"দ্ধে সেনা আইনে গ্রেফতারি পরোয়ানা জারি করা হয়েছে'। খেয়াল রাখতে হবে দৈনিক আমার দেশের বির"দ্ধে মামলা সেনা কর্তৃপক্ষ করছে না, করছে একজন সাবেক সেনা অফিসার। কিন' তিনি জানেন সেনা কর্তৃপক্ষ দৈনিক আমার দেশকে কী বলেছে। এখন অভিযোগ হ"েছ যে- বিবাদিরা তথ্য দিতে অপারগতা প্রকাশ করেছে আমার দেশ তা উল্লেখ করায় সেনাবাহিনীর ভাবমূর্তি প্রশ্নের সম্মুখীন এবং এতে বাদি একজন সেনাবাহিনীর সাবেক কর্মকর্তা হওয়ায় তার মর্যাদা/সম্মানহানি হয়েছে।
সেনা সদরের তরফে যে সংবাদ সম্মেলন হয় সেখানে দৈনিক আমার দেশের বির"দ্ধে এই মামলার প্রসঙ্গ ওঠে নি। তবে সংবাদ সম্মেলনে ৩ জানুয়ারি ২০১২ তারিখে দৈনিক আমার দেশের প্রতিবেদনটিকে 'হলুদ সাংবাদিকতার অংশ' হিশাবে অভিযুক্ত করা হয়। দৈনিক আমার দেশ অবশ্য তার পরদিনই এই অভিযোগের জবাব দেয়। এরপর সেনা সদর থেকে কোন উত্তর এসেছে বলে আমি দেখি নি।
এই তথ্যগুলো পাঠকদের আবার বলবার কারণ হ"েছ- সেনাবাহিনীর তরফে যারা সংবাদ সম্মেলন করেছেন তারা নাগরিকদের উৎকণ্ঠার মূল জায়গা এবং সেনাবাহিনী ও রাষ্ট্রের মৌলিক প্রশ্নগুলোকে সম্পূর্ণ উপেক্ষা করে পুরা ব্যাপারটিকেই 'প্রবাসী বাংলাদেশী নাগরিকদের ইন্ধনে অবসরপ্রাপ্ত এবং সেনাবাহিনীতে কর্মরত কতিপয় ধর্মান্ধ কর্মকর্তা কর্তৃক অন্যান্যদের ধর্মান্ধতাকে পুঁজি করে দুরভিসন্ধিমূলক কর্মকাণ্ডের মাধ্যমে সেনাবাহিনীতে বিশঙ্খলা সৃষ্টি করে বাংলাদেশের গণতান্ত্রিক ধারাকে ব্যাহত করার একটি বিফল প্রয়াস' হিশাবে হাজির করেছেন। পুরা ব্যাপারটি আরো প্রশ্নবোধক হয়ে পড়েছে ইকোনমিস্টকে দেওয়া সেনা অভ্যুত্থানচেষ্টায় অভিযুক্ত বেসামরিক ব্যক্তি প্রবাসী ইশরাক আহমেদের সাক্ষাৎকারে। ইশরাক আহমেদ ইকোনমিস্টকে বলেছেন- তিনি ধর্মান্ধ মৌলবাদী নন। ধর্মীয় মৌলবাদের সঙ্গে তার কোনো সম্পৃক্ততা নেই। তিনি একজন মুক্তিযোদ্ধা। দায়িত্বের সঙ্গে নিজের দেশকে স্বাধীন করতে তিনি লড়েছেন। তার বাড়ি থেকে মদ, ব্র্যান্ডি ও হুইস্কি জব্দ করা হয়েছে। কোনো ধরনের অস্ত্র নয়। ইকোনমিস্ট বলছে- ইশরাক অনেক কথাই বলেছেন। তবে খুবই সম্ভব ও সুনির্দিষ্ট যে তথ্য তিনি জানিয়েছেন সেটা হোল- ভারতীয় গোয়েন্দা সংস'া রিসার্চ অ্যান্ড অ্যানালিসিস উইংয়ের সদস্যরা বাংলাদেশে তৎপর। এই সংস'ার সদস্যরা প্রায় দুই বছর থেকে বাংলাদেশী গোয়েন্দা সংস'ার কার্যালয়ে অফিস করছে এবং সাবমেরিন ক্যাবলের মাধ্যমে ভারতের সঙ্গে তাদের সরাসরি যোগাযোগব্যবস'াও কার্যকর রয়েছে। ভারতীয়রা বাংলাদেশে ইলেকট্রনিক নজরদারি চালায় এবং বাংলাদেশের বিভিন্ন শহর থেকে তাদের সন্দেহভাজনদের অপহরণ করে। ইশরাক আহমেদ আরো বলেছেন, সরকার সেনা অভ্যুত্থানের কথা বললেও কোনো ট্রুপস ও গান মুভমেন্ট দেখাতে পারে নি।
ইকোনমিস্ট এই সাক্ষাৎকার ছাপিয়ে জানান দিতে চেয়েছে ধর্মান্ধ মৌলবাদীদের সম্পৃক্ততার যে অভিযোগ সেনা সদর তুলেছে এবং ভারতের আনন্দবাজারের মতো পত্রিকা রটনা করে যা"েছ তার ভিত্তি দুর্বল। এই দিকটা প্রথমে আমাদের বুঝতে হবে। আসলে কী ঘটেছে তা প্রকাশ ও প্রমাণের দায় সরকারের। আমরা আশা করব সেনাবাহিনী দলীয় স্বার্থে ব্যবহৃত হবে না। আমরা চাই বা না চাই এটা পরিষ্কার যে বাস-ব কারণেই দিল্লির আগ্রাসন ও আধিপত্যের বিরোধিতা বাংলাদেশের রাজনীতির প্রধান নির্ণায়ক হয়ে উঠতে বাধ্য। এর জন্য ক্ষমতাসীন সরকারের ভারত নীতিই দায়ী। মৌলবাদ বা ধর্মান্ধ জুজুর ভয় দেখিয়ে বাংলাদেশের মর্যাদা ও সার্বভৌমত্বের প্রশ্নকে দাবিয়ে রাখা যাবে না।

আহমদ ছফা'র এই প্রবন্ধটি সংকলিত হয়েছিল ১৯৮৯ সালে প্রকাশিত তার 'শেখ মুজিবুর রহমান ও অন্যান্য প্রবন্ধ' বইয়ে। আজ বঙ্গবন্ধু'র জন্মবার্ষীকিতে আমরা প্রবন্ধটি রিলোড করলাম। ছফা বলছেন 'শুধু শেখ মুজিব নয়, উনিশশো একাত্তর সালে যে মুক্তিযুদ্ধটি সংঘটিত হয়ে গেছে এবং যার গর্ভ থেকে বর্তমানের স্বাধীন বাংলাদেশ ভূমিষ্ঠ হয়েছে, তার চরিত্রটিও নির্ধারণ করা প্রয়োজন।'
কথা উঠেছে শেখ মুজিবুর রহমানকে নিয়ে। এক দল বলছেন, শেখ মুজিব সর্বকালের শ্রেষ্ঠতম বাঙালি, অন্তত বাংলার শ্রেষ্ঠতম সন্তানদের একজন। তিনি বাঙালি জাতীয়তাবাদের প্রবক্তা। 'বঙ্গবন্ধু', 'জাতির পিতা' এবং বাঙালি জাতির মুক্তিসংগ্রামের অবিসংবাদিত মহানায়ক। তারই সংগ্রামের উত্তাপ উপমহাদেশের এই প্রত্যন্ত অঞ্চলটিতে হাজার বছরের পরবশ্যতার সমূহ গ্লানি মুছিয়ে দিয়ে একটি নবীন রাষ্ট্র সম্ভাবিত করেছে। অন্যরা বলছেন- না। শেখ মুজিবুর রহমান বাঙলার জাতীয় ইতিহাসের একজন মস্ত বড় 'ভিলেন' বা 'খলনায়ক'। তিনি বাঙালির মুক্তিসংগ্রামের সঙ্গে প্রতারণা করেছেন। মুক্তি এবং স্বাধীনতার নামে তিনি বাংলার জনগণকে তাড়িত করে হতাশা এবং অন্ধকারের গোলকধাঁধার মধ্যে ছুড়ে দিয়েছেন।
নায়ক-পুরুষ, বীর এবং ভিলেন এই দুটি প্রবল মত অদ্যাবধি শেখ মুজিবের নামের সঙ্গে যুক্ত হয়ে জোরের সঙ্গে উচ্চারিত হয়ে সর্বত্র ধ্বনিত-প্রতিধ্বনিত হচ্ছে। প্রকৃত প্রস্তাবে শেখ মুজিবুর রহমান কি ছিলেন? বাঙালি জাতির মুক্তিদাতা বীর? নাকি মুক্তিসংগ্রামের সঙ্গে প্রতারণাকারী বাগাড়ম্বর-সর্বস্ব, ক্ষমতাদর্পী একজন মানুষ? বাংলার ইতিহাসে শেখ মুজিব কোন ভূমিকা পালন করে গেছেন?
একটি সদুত্তর প্রয়োজন। কি ছিলেন শেখ মুজিব- বীর? প্রতারক? অনমনীয় একগুঁয়ে, উচ্চাকাংক্ষী, চরম ক্ষমতালোভী একজন একনায়ক?
আচ্ছা, শেখ মুজিব কি বাঙালি জাতি, বাংলার জনগণের কাছে একজন মহান শহীদ? যিনি সপরিবারে ঘৃণ্য গুপ্তঘাতকের হাতে প্রাণ হারিয়েছেন বটে, কিন্তু বাংলার ইতিহাস পরম আদরে এই মহান সন্তানের রুধির-রঞ্জিত স্মৃতি লাল নিশানের মতো ঊর্ধ্বে তুলে ধরে নিরবধিকাল এই জাতির সামনে চলার প্রেরণার উৎসস্থল হয়ে বিরাজ করবে? জাতির সঙ্কট-মুহূর্তে বিমূর্ততার অন্তরাল ভেদ করে তেজীয়ান প্রাণবান মুজিব আবির্ভূত হয়ে করাঙ্গুল প্রসারিত করে সঙ্কট-ত্রাণের পথ নির্দেশ কhttp://rajnoitik.com/category/%e0%a6%b8%e0%a6%ae%e0%a6%be%e0%a6%9c/রবেন?
নাকি শেখ মুজিব ইতিহাসের সেসব ঘৃণিত ভিলেনের একজন, যারা জনগণকে মুক্তি এবং স্বাধীনতার নামে জাগায় বটে, কিন্তু সামনে যাওয়ার নাম করে পেছন দিকে চালনা করে। একটা সময় পর্যন্ত জনগণ ভিলেনদের কথা শোনে, তাদের নির্দেশ শিরোধার্য করে মেনে নেয়। কিন্তু যখন তারা বুঝতে পারে শয়তানের প্রলোভনে মুগ্ধ হয়ে ফুল-ফসলে ঘেরা সবুজ উপকূলের আশায় পা বাড়িয়ে ভ্রান্ত স্বপ্নের ছলনায় ভ্রান্ত গন্তব্যে এসে উপনীত হয়েছে; তাদের আশা করার, বাসা করার, ভরসা করার কিছুই নেই; আছে শুধু পথচলার ক্লান্তি, অনিশ্চয়তার হতাশা এবং প্রখর মরুভূমিতে মরীচিকার নিত্যনতুন ছলনা, তখন তারা তাদের ভাগ্যকে ধিক্কার দেয়, অভিসম্পাতের বাণী উচ্চারণ করে সেই বহুরূপী সঙ-নেতার নামে, যার ব্যক্তিগত প্রতিষ্ঠা এবং উচ্চাকাক্সক্ষার পতাকাকে নিরীহ, শান্তিপ্রিয়, খেটে-খাওয়া জনগণ তাদের মুক্তিসনদ বলে ভুল করেছিল। শেখ মুজিবও কি একজন তেমন মানুষ? লক্ষ প্রদীপ-জ্বালা, স্তুতি-নিনাদিত উৎসবমঞ্চের বেদিতলে সপরিবারে যার মৃতদেহ ঢাকা পড়ে রইল রাজপথে, শোকের মাতম উঠল না, ক্রন্দনধ্বনি আকাশে গিয়ে বিঁধল না, কোথাও বিদ্রোহ-বিক্ষোভের ঢেউ জলস্তম্ভের মতো ফুলেফুলে জেগে উঠলো না! এ কেমন মৃত্যু, এ কেমন পরিণতি শেখ মুজিবের সুদীর্ঘ কর্মময় জীবনের! সব চুপচাপ নিস্তব্ধ! তাহলে কি ধরে নিতে হবে বাংলাদেশের মানুষ যারা তার কথায় হাত ওঠাতো, দর্শন মাত্রই জয়ধ্বনিতে আকাশ-বাতাস মুখরিত করতো, তার এমন করুণ ভয়ঙ্কর মৃত্যু দেখেও 'বাঁচা গেল' বলে স্বস্তির নিঃশ্বাস ত্যাগ করেছে? ইতিহাসের অন্যান্য প্রতারক ভিলেনের ভাগ্যে সচরাচর যা ঘটে থাকে, শেখ মুজিবের ভাগ্যেও তাই কি ঘটেছে?
একটি সদুত্তর প্রয়োজন। কি ছিলেন শেখ মুজিব- বীর? প্রতারক? অনমনীয় একগুঁয়ে, উচ্চাকাংক্ষী, চরম ক্ষমতালোভী একজন একনায়ক? একটা জবাব টেনে বের করে আনতে না পারলে বাংলার ভাবী ইতিহাসের গতিরেখাটি স্পষ্ট হয়ে উঠবে না। বারংবার শেখ মুজিবের ঐতিহাসিক ভূমিকাটি অনির্ণীত থেকে যাচ্ছে বলেই বাংলার, বাঙালি জাতির ইতিহাসের পরিক্রমণ-পথটি ক্রমাগত ঝাপসা, অস্পষ্ট এবং কুয়াশাচ্ছন্ন হয়ে উঠছে। এই ঐতিহাসিক অলাতচক্র যার মধ্যে দিনের আলোতে সবাই পথ হারায়, রাতে রাতকানা হয়ে থাকে, তার ভেতর থেকে কেটেচিরে সামনে চলার পাথেয় স্বরূপ একটা অবলম্বন অবশ্যই খাড়া করতে হবে।
শুধু শেখ মুজিব নয়, উনিশশো একাত্তর সালে যে মুক্তিযুদ্ধটি সংঘটিত হয়ে গেছে এবং যার গর্ভ থেকে বর্তমানের স্বাধীন বাংলাদেশ ভূমিষ্ঠ হয়েছে, তার চরিত্রটিও নির্ধারণ করা প্রয়োজন।
বাংলাদেশের স্বাধীনতা এবং শেখ মুজিবুর রহমান এ দুটো যমজ শব্দ একটা আরেকটার পরিপূরক এবং দুটো মিলে আমাদের জাতীয় ইতিহাসের উজ্জ্বল-প্রোজ্জ্বল এক অচিন্তিত পূর্ব-কালান্তরের সূচনা করেছে। শেখ মুজিবুর রহমানের নেতৃত্বে যে দুর্বার গণআন্দোলনটি সৃজিত হয়েছিল তার লক্ষ্যের অস্পষ্টতা, সঙ্কীর্ণ দৃষ্টিভঙ্গি, এ সমস্ত বিষয়ে কারো দ্বিমত থাকার নয়। তদুপরি স্বায়ত্তশাসনের আন্দোলন রাতারাতি স্বাধীনতার সংগ্রামে রূপলাভ করে এশিয়ার একটি সেরা দুর্ধর্ষ বাহিনীর বিপক্ষে বাংলাদেশের নিরস্ত্র জনগণকে বলির পাঁঠার মতো দাঁড় করিয়ে দিয়েছিল। শেখ মুজিব এবং তার দল আওয়ামী লীগ কারোরই এ প্রচ- পরিস্থিতির মোকাবেলা করার ক্ষমতা ছিল না। ফল যা হবার হয়েছে। বাংলাদেশের প্রতিরোধযুদ্ধ এবং মুক্তিসংগ্রাম পায়ে হেঁটে সীমান্ত পেরিয়ে ভারতে আশ্রয় যাঞ্চা করতে গেল, আর তেজোদ্দীপ্ত মুজিব পাকিস্তানের কারাগারে চলে গেলেন। এই হলো নিরেট সত্য কথা। যদি আর কিন্তু দিয়ে ইতিহাস রচিত হয় না। যা ঘটেছে তাই-ই ইতিহাস।
ভারতবর্ষের বাংলাদেশের মুক্তিযুদ্ধে জড়িয়ে পড়া, সোভিয়েত রাশিয়ার সক্রিয় অংশগ্রহণ, ভারত-পাকিস্তান যুদ্ধ এবং যুদ্ধে পাকিস্তানের চূড়ান্ত পরাজয়ের কারণে বর্তমান বাংলাদেশের অভ্যুদয় এসব সত্য যদি সবাই অম্লানবদনে বিনাদ্বিধায় মেনে নিতে পারে, তাহলে আমাদের জাতীয় ইতিহাসের এ পর্যায়ে শেখ মুজিবুর রহমানের একটা বিরাট ভূমিকা ছিল, সেটুকু মেনে নিতে বাধাটা কোথায়? বাংলাদেশের জন্ম-প্রক্রিয়ায় কোন দেশটি ইতিহাসের কোন পর্যায়ে এক ধরনের না এক ধরনের স্বার্থ ছাড়া অন্য দেশের প্রতি সাহায্যের হাত সম্প্রসারিত করেছে? ভারত পাকিস্তানকে ভাঙার জন্য আওয়ামী লীগকে সব রকমের সাহায্য-সহযোগিতা দিয়েছে এবং রাশিয়া তার দুনিয়াজোড়া সামরিক শ্রেষ্ঠত্ব অটুট রাখার জন্য পেছন থেকে কলকাঠি নেড়েছে, কিন্তু বাংলাদেশের জনগণ তো স্বাধীনতা চেয়েছিল এবং স্বাধীনতা অর্জন করার জন্য সব শ্রেণীর জনগণ মরণপণ করে স্বাধীনতা সংগ্রামে ঝাঁপিয়ে পড়েছিল। উনিশশো একাত্তরের মুক্তিসংগ্রামে বাংলাদেশের নানা শ্রেণীর মানুষ নানান দৃষ্টিকোণ থেকে যেভাবে যুদ্ধে অংশগ্রহণ করেছে, ক্ষয়ক্ষতি স্বীকার করেছে, বাংলার ইতিহাসের কোনো পর্যায়ে এমন সর্বাত্মক সার্বজনীন জাতীয় যুদ্ধ এবং গণযুদ্ধের সন্ধান কেউ দিতে পারবেন কি?
মুক্তিসংগ্রামের মধ্য দিয়ে যে বাংলাদেশ জন্মগ্রহণ করেছে তা মেনে নিতে কারো আপত্তি নেই। এমনকি যেসব শ্রেণী, গোষ্ঠী ও স্বার্থবাদীচক্র বাংলাদেশের স্বাধীনতার বিপক্ষে সরাসরি অস্ত্র হাতে যুদ্ধ করেছে তাদেরও বাংলাদেশের বাস্তবতা মেনে নিতে বাধছে না। কিন্তু মুজিবের অস্তিবাচক ভূমিকাটুকু মেনে নিতে তাদের ঘোরতর আপত্তি। এ এক মর্বিড মানসিকতা। বাংলাদেশের ঐতিহাসিক অভিযাত্রার সঙ্গে তাদের সম্পর্ক না থাকার যে লজ্জা, যে গ্লানি সেটুকু ঢাকার অপকৌশল হিসেবে শেখ মুজিবুর রহমানের প্রাপ্য মর্যাদা দিতে তারা অক্ষম।
যা বলছিলাম, শেখ মুজিব সময়ের সন্তান; পিতা নন। ঘটনার গতি তাকে ঠেলে নিয়ে গিয়েছিল, তিনি ঘটনাস্রোত নিয়ন্ত্রণ করে একটা নির্দিষ্ট লক্ষ্যের পানে এগিয়ে নিয়ে যেতে পারেননি। সময় শেখ মুজিবকে সৃষ্টি করেছে। অভিনব সম্ভাবনাসম্পন্ন সময়ের স্রষ্টা তিনি নন। তার জাতীয়তার বোধ অতীতের, ভবিষ্যতের নয়।
অবশ্য কথা উঠতে পারে, উঠতে পারে কেন অবশ্যই উঠবে। বাঙালির জাতিসত্তার বিকাশের অগ্রযাত্রার এক পর্যায়ে সরাসরি বিরোধিতা করেছিলেন শেখ মুজিব। যতোক্ষণ পর্যন্ত বাংলাদেশে একটি মধ্যশ্রেণী গড়ে না উঠছে ততোদিন শেখ মুজিব পশ্চিমা ধনিকদের লেজুড়বৃত্তি করেছেন, বাঙালি স্বার্থের বিরোধিতা করতেও কুণ্ঠিত হননি। অনেককাল পর্যন্ত পশ্চিমা ধনিকদের মতাদর্শই তার রাজনৈতিক মতাদর্শ ছিল। তার মতো ইঙ্গ-মার্কিন শক্তির এমন একনিষ্ঠ সেবক তৎকালীন পূর্ব পাকিস্তানে দ্বিতীয়টি খুঁজে পাওয়া যেতো কি না সন্দেহ আছে। তিনি তখনই বাঙালি জাতীয়তাবাদের প্রশ্নটি নিয়ে মাঠে নেমেছেন, যখন এদেশে একটি মধ্যশ্রেণী সৃষ্টি হয়ে গেছে। পশ্চিমাদের দ্বারা ক্রমাগত নিগৃহীত হয়ে এ শ্রেণীটি যখন সোচ্চার হতে শিখেছে সে সময়েই শেখ মুজিবুর রহমান তার দল আওয়ামী লীগকে মধ্যশ্রেণীর প্রতিনিধিত্বশীল সংগঠন হিসেবে দাঁড় করান। সুতরাং শেখ মুজিবের বাঙালি জাতীয়তাবাদ জাতীয় মধ্যশ্রেণীর জাতীয়তাবাদ, যেটি সমাজের শোষিত শ্রেণী নয়- ক্ষুদে শোষক শ্রেণী; বড় শোষক সাম্রাজ্যবাদের সঙ্গে সংযোগ তার প্রত্যক্ষ নয়। পাকিস্তানি শোষকদের মাধ্যমেই তার লেনদেন চলছিল। অর্থনৈতিক এবং শ্রেণী-দৃষ্টিকোণ থেকে দেখলে বলতেই হবে সাম্রাজ্যবাদী শোষকদের সঙ্গে একটা প্রত্যক্ষ সংযোগ স্থাপন করাই ছিল বাঙালি মধ্যশ্রেণীর মূল অভীষ্ট।
শেখ মুজিবুর রহমান, বাংলাদেশের মধ্যশ্রেণীর দাবি-দাওয়ার মোড়ক, যা চিহ্নিত হয়েছিল বাঙালি জাতীয়তাবাদ নামে, তাই নিয়ে মাঠে নেমেছিলেন এবং অত্যন্ত অল্প সময়ের মধ্যে গোটা বাংলাদেশের জনমত তার সপক্ষে নিয়ে আসতে পেরেছিলেন, এটা একমাত্র বক্তব্য নয়- বারো হাত কাঁকুড়ের তেরো হাত বিচির মতো তার পেছনে আরো বক্তব্য রয়েছে। গোড়া থেকেই আওয়ামী লীগের রাজনীতি মূলত পুঁজিবাদী রাজনীতি এবং স্পষ্ট ও প্রকাশ্যভাবে সমাজতন্ত্রের বিরোধিতা করাই ছিল আওয়ামী লীগ দলটির অন্যতম বৈশিষ্ট্যসমূহের একটি।
যেসব বামপন্থী সংগঠন পূর্ব বাংলার স্বায়ত্তশাসনের কথা বলতো, দেশে সমাজতন্ত্র প্রতিষ্ঠার দাবি উচ্চারণ করতো, আওয়ামী লীগ বরাবর তাদের বিরোধিতা করে এসেছে। পাকিস্তানের ইঙ্গ-মার্কিন সামরিক জোটে অংশগ্রহণের প্রশ্নে সোহরাওয়ার্দী এবং মওলানা ভাসানীকে কেন্দ্র করে সেই যে আওয়ামী লীগ এবং ন্যাশনাল আওয়ামী পার্টি নাম নিয়ে দ্বিখন্ডিত হলো, তারপর থেকে বলতে গেলে উনিশশো আটষট্টি-ঊনসত্তর সাল পর্যন্তও আওয়ামী লীগ সমাজতন্ত্রের বিরোধিতা করে এসেছে। এমনকি ছয় দফা যখন বাংলাদেশে ব্যাপক পরিচিতি লাভ করেছে, তখনো আওয়ামী লীগ সমাজতন্ত্রের প্রত্যক্ষ বিরোধিতা করেছে।
তৎকালীন পূর্ববাংলার স্বায়ত্তশাসনের দাবিতে যেসব বামপন্থী রাজনৈতিক দল প্রথমেই আন্দোলনের সূচনা করেছিলেন তাদের চূড়ান্ত ব্যর্থতা শেখ মুজিবুর রহমানের অভূতপূর্ব সাফল্যের অন্যতম কারণ বললে খুব বেশি বলা হবে না। তারা জাতিসত্তার মুক্তির প্রশ্নটি উচ্চারণ করেছিলেন বটে, কিন্তু জাতি যখন ভেতর থেকে জাগ্রত হয়ে দাবি আদায়ের পথে প্রচন্ড বেগে অগ্রসর হচ্ছিল; তারা কোনো হাল ধরতে পারেননি। এই পরিস্থিতির সুযোগ পুরোপুরি গ্রহণ করেছেন শেখ মুজিব এবং তাঁর দল আওয়ামী লীগ। এটা কেন ঘটল, কেমন করে ঘটল, অনেকে অনেক কথা বলবেন। আন্তর্জাতিক কমিউনিস্ট আন্দোলনের দ্বিধা-বিভক্তি, বাংলাদেশের কমিউনিস্ট পার্টিতে তার প্রতিক্রিয়া- এক অংশের মস্কোর প্রতি অনবচ্ছিন্ন আনুগত্য এবং অন্য অংশের পিকিংয়ের নির্লজ্জ লেজুড়বৃত্তি- এসব বিষয় অবশ্যই ধর্তব্যের মধ্যে আসবে। তাছাড়া পাকিস্তান-ভারত যুদ্ধ, সেই যুদ্ধে মস্কোর মধ্যস্থতা এবং তার মাধ্যমে ভারত-পাকিস্তান মিলিয়ে এশিয়ায় চীন-বিরোধী একটা ব্লক তৈরি করার সোভিয়েত অভিপ্রায় এবং অন্যদিকে যুদ্ধে সরাসরি চীনের পাকিস্তানের প্রতি সমর্থন, চীন-পাকিস্তান সম্পর্ক, মওলানা ভাসানী এবং চীনপন্থী কমিউনিস্ট পার্টির আইয়ুব খানের প্রতি দুর্বলতা, তাছাড়া পশ্চিমবাংলার নকশাল নেতা চারু মজুমদারের সন্ত্রাসবাদী রাজনীতির মড়কের মতো প্রভাব বামপন্থী দলগুলোকে জাতিসত্তার মুক্তির দাবি থেকে অনেক দূরে সরিয়ে নিয়েছিল। সত্য বটে উনিশশো সত্তরের নির্বাচনের প্রাক্কালে ন্যাপ এবং কমিউনিস্ট পার্টির মস্কো সমর্থক অংশ জাতিসত্তার মুক্তির দাবিতে আওয়ামী লীগের সঙ্গে একমত পোষণ করে মাঠে নেমেছিলেন কিন্তু তখন অনেক বিলম্ব ঘটে গেছে। নির্বাচনের সময় থেকে শুরু করে মুক্তিযুদ্ধ চলাকালীন সময় পর্যন্ত এমনকি তার পরেও শেখ মুজিবুর রহমান যতোদিন জীবিত ছিলেন, আওয়ামী লীগের তল্পিবহন করে মস্কোর নামে জয়ধ্বনি উচ্চারণ করা ছাড়া আমাদের রাজনীতিতে সত্যিকার অর্থে পালনীয় কোনো ভূমিকা তাঁদের ছিল না। বড় তরফের কাছে অস্তিত্ব টিকিয়ে রাখার জন্য অম্লানবদনে আত্মসমর্পণ- এটাকে যথার্থ যুক্তফ্রন্ট বলা যাবে কি না তা সত্যি সত্যি বিতর্কের বিষয়।
সে যা হোক, বামপন্থী রাজনীতির অন্যান্য অংশসমূহ সেই যে জাতীয় রাজনীতির প্রধান স্রোতধারা থেকে, মূল শিকড় থেকে বিচ্যুত হয়ে পড়েছিল; সেই খাতে অদ্যাবধি আর ফিরে আসতে পারেনি। শেখ মুজিবুর রহমান বাংলাদেশের জাতীয় মধ্যশ্রেণীর রাজনৈতিক প্রতিনিধি। তিনি তার দৃষ্টিকোণ থেকে, তার নিজস্ব শ্রেণীটির স্বার্থের দিকে লক্ষ্য রেখে মুক্তিসংগ্রামের ডাক দিয়েছিলেন। এই জাতীয় মধ্যশ্রেণীটি দুধের সরের মতো সবেমাত্র ভাসতে আরম্ভ করেছে। আপন মেরুদণ্ডের ওপর থিতু হয়ে দাঁড়ার ক্ষমতা তার নেই। মধ্যশ্রেণীর দাবির সঙ্গে জাতীয় মুক্তির প্রশ্নে বাংলাদেশের শোষিত মানুষের দাবি সমসূত্রে এসে মেশার ফলে স্বায়ত্তশাসনের আন্দোলন নতুন বেগ এবং আবেগ সঞ্চয় করে রাতারাতি জাতীয় মুক্তিসংগ্রামের রূপ পরিগ্রহ করে। বাংলাদেশের সকল শ্রেণীর মানুষ অগ্নিতে পতঙ্গের মতো এই মুক্তিসংগ্রামে ঝাঁপিয়ে পড়েছে। ব্যাপ্তি এবং গভীরতার দিক দিয়ে বিচার করলে উনিশশো একাত্তরের মুক্তিসংগ্রামের মতো এমন ঘটনা বাঙলার আবহমান ইতিহাসে আর দ্বিতীয়টি নেই।
শেখ মুজিবুর রহমান মধ্যশ্রেণীভুক্ত মানুষ- মধ্যশ্রেণীর স্বার্থরক্ষা করাই হলো তাঁর আনুপূর্বিক রাজনৈতিক জীবনের সারকথা। এই মুক্তিসংগ্রামের দায়িত্ব কাঁধে নিয়ে, জাতীয় আকাংক্ষার নিরিখে যৌক্তিক পরিণতির দিকে নিয়ে যাওয়ার ক্ষমতা বা শিক্ষা কোনোটাই তার ছিল না। ফলে বাংলাদেশের মুক্তিযুদ্ধ বাংলাদেশের মাটি থেকে নির্বাসিত হয়ে ভারতে আশ্রয়ভিক্ষা করতে গেল।
এ তো হলো চিত্রের একদিক। অপরদিকে দৃষ্টিপাত করলে কি দেখতে পাই? শেখ মুজিবের সুবিধাবাদী দোদুল্যমান নেতৃত্ব নেগেট করতে পারার মতো বিকল্প নেতৃত্বের অস্তিত্ব সেদিন বাংলাদেশে কোথায়? শেখ মুজিবুর রহমানের দোদুল্যমান নেতৃত্ব এবং সঙ্কীর্ণ দৃষ্টিভঙ্গির কারণে বাংলাদেশের মুক্তিযুদ্ধ ভারতের যুদ্ধে পরিণত হলো, এর জন্য অনেকে শেখ মুজিবকে দায়ী করেন এবং অনেকে তাকে 'জাতীয় বেঈমান' ইত্যাদিও আখ্যা দিয়ে থাকেন। কিন্তু একটার পর একটা ভুলের মাধ্যমে আওয়ামী লীগের বিকল্প নেতৃত্ব নির্মাণের সুযোগ হেলায় অপব্যয় করে যারা মুক্তিযুদ্ধে সাক্ষীগোপালের ভূমিকা পালন করেছেন কিংবা স্থলবিশেষে জাতির শত্রুদের সঙ্গে হাত মিলিয়েছেন তারাই বা জাতির প্রতি এমন কি বিশ্বস্ততার পরিচয় দিয়েছেন? শেখ মুজিব কি ভূমিকা পালন করেছেন, অন্য দশটা রাজনৈতিক দল এবং নেতা কি ভূমিকা পালন করেছেন সেই মানদণ্ডেই তা নির্ণয় করতে হবে। সেদিন যদি শেখ মুজিব তার শ্রেণীগত ভূমিকাটি পালন না করতেন তাহলে কি খুব ভালো করতেন?
একটা প্রশ্ন অবশ্যই জিজ্ঞাস্য। শেখ মুজিব সময়ের সন্তান, না সময়ের পিতা? সেই সময়ের বাংলাদেশে যে রাজনৈতিক বাস্তবতা বিরাজ করছিল তাতে রাজনৈতিক প্রজ্ঞা ও দূরদর্শিতা প্রয়োগ করে তিনি তার কতোদূর গুণগত পরিবর্তন সাধন করতে পেরেছিলেন? নাকি সময়ের স্রোতে বাহিত হয়ে কেবলমাত্র তার ভাবমূর্তিটাই উজ্জ্বল থেকে উজ্জ্বলতররূপে ক্রমাগত অভ্রভেদী হয়ে উঠেছিল। এ প্রশ্নে আমাদের স্পষ্ট উত্তর, শেখ মুজিব সময়ের সন্তান, সময়ের পিতা নন। সে সময়ের বাংলাদেশের সামন্তবাদী মুসলিম লীগ রাজনীতির ক্ষীণতম প্রভাবটুকুও আর অবশিষ্ট নেই। বামপন্থী রাজনীতি দিশেহারা, বিপথগামী, শতধা বিচ্ছিন্ন এবং পক্ষাঘাত রোগে আক্রান্ত। মাঠে শেখ মুজিব ছাড়া আর কেউ নেই। আর জাতির অন্তরের মুক্তিপিপাসা সমুদ্রের কোটাল জোয়ারের তরঙ্গের মতো ফেটে ফেটে পড়ছে। শেখ মুজিবুর রহমান সে সময়ে জাতিকে অঙ্গুলি হেলনে ডাইনে-বাঁয়ে, সামনে-পিছনে যে দিক ইচ্ছে পরিচালিত করতে পারতেন। বাঙালি জাতীয়তাবাদের ভয়াবহ প্লাবনে গোটা দেশ ভেসে যাচ্ছে।
কিন্তু এ কোন বাঙালি জাতীয়তাবাদ? মোহাম্মদ আলী জিন্নাহর দ্বিজাতিতত্ত্বের ভিত পচেগলে একাকার; ধর্মভিত্তিক জাতীয়তার শেষ শেকড়টাও উপড়ে ফেলে, দশ কোটি মানুষের সামনে যে নতুন রাজনৈতিক বাস্তবতা মূর্তিমান হয়ে দেখা দিয়েছে তাকে বাঙালি জাতীয়তাবাদ বললে ভুল করা হয় না। কিন্তু একটি লাগসই ব্যাখ্যা প্রয়োজন। উনিশশো সাতচল্লিশ সালে ভারতবর্ষ হিন্দু-জাতীয়তা এবং মুসলিম-জাতীয়তার ভিত্তিতে বিভক্ত হয়ে ভারত এবং পাকিস্তান রাষ্ট্রের সৃষ্টি হয়েছিল। যদিও ভারতীয় রাষ্ট্রের কর্ণধাররা স্বীকার করেননি যে, হিন্দু-জাতীয়তাই হলো ভারতরাষ্ট্রের ভিত্তি। সেই মুসলিম-জাতীয়তার ভিত ভেঙে বাংলাদেশে যখন একটি নতুনতর জাতীয় সংগ্রাম দাবানলের মতো জ্বলে উঠতে শুরু করেছে তখন ভারতের ক্ষমতাসীন শাসক কংগ্রেসের তাত্ত্বিকেরা বাংলাদেশের জাতীয় মুক্তিসংগ্রামকে দ্বিজাতিতত্ত্বের ভুল সংশোধন হিসেবে ব্যাখ্যা করতে প্রবৃত্ত হয়েছিলেন। তাদের মতামত আওয়ামী লীগের চিন্তাধারাকে ব্যাপকভাবে যে প্রভাবিত করেছিল, তাতে বিন্দুমাত্র সন্দেহ নেই। জাতীয় সংগ্রাম যখন তুঙ্গে সেই সময় মুজিবের ভক্তরা তাকে 'বঙ্গবন্ধু' আখ্যা দিচ্ছেন, নতুন ধরনের মুজিব কোট, মুজিব টুপি চালু করছেন। 'বঙ্গবন্ধু' শব্দটির সঙ্গে 'দেশবন্ধু'র একটি সাদৃশ্য চোখে পড়ে। মুজিব কোটের সঙ্গে জওহরলাল নেহরুর ব্যবহৃত জ্যাকেট এবং মুজিব টুপির সঙ্গে সুভাষ বসুর আজাদ-হিন্দ ফৌজের টুপির ঈষৎ পরিবর্তিত মিল দেখলে অতি সহজেই বোধগম্য হয়, যেসব প্রতীক বৃটিশবিরোধী সংগ্রামে ভারতীয় কংগ্রেস অনুসৃত ভারতীয় জাতীয়তার স্মারকচিহ্ন হিসেবে ব্যবহৃত হয়েছে, সেগুলোই সামান্য পরিবর্তিত চেহারায় বাংলাদেশের মুক্তিসংগ্রামে নতুনভাবে জেগে উঠতে শুরু করেছে। এমনকি শেখ মুজিবুর রহমানের অহিংস-অসহযোগ আন্দোলনটির কথাও এ প্রসঙ্গে উল্লেখ করা যেতে পারে। বাংলাদেশে আবার মহাত্মা গান্ধীর আদর্শের নবউত্থান লক্ষ্য করে অনেক ভারতীয়ই উল্লসিত হয়ে উঠেছিলেন, এ কারণে যে কংগ্রেসের নেতৃবৃন্দ যে ভবিষ্যদ্বাণী করেছিলেন অনতিবিলম্বে তা পূর্ণ হতে যাচ্ছে। পাকিস্তান ভেঙে পড়ছে এবং খ-িত ভারত আবার জোড়া লেগে অখ-রূপে আবির্ভূত হতে যাচ্ছে। উনিশশো একাত্তর সালের বাংলাদেশের মুক্তিসংগ্রামের নেতৃত্বের রূপটি দর্শন করে ভারতের ক্ষমতাসীন গোষ্ঠীর এ মনোভাব জাগ্রত হওয়া একটুও অস্বাভাবিক নয় যে, বাংলাদেশ পাকিস্তানের কাঠামো থেকে বেরিয়ে এসে ভারতের সঙ্গে মিলেমিশে না যাক, অন্তত ভারতের কাছাকাছি আসার চেষ্টা করছে। সে কারণে অনেকেই শেখ মুজিবুর রহমানকে মহাত্মা গান্ধীর মানসপুত্র বলে অভিহিত করতে কুণ্ঠিত হননি।
অথচ বাংলাদেশের উনিশশো বাহান্ন সালের 'ভাষা আন্দোলন' থেকে শুরু করে উনিশশো আটষট্টি-ঊনসত্তরের 'স্বাধিকার আন্দোলন' এবং উনিশশো একাত্তরের 'মুক্তিসংগ্রাম' পর্যন্ত সংগ্রামের ধারাটি এবং ভারতের অবহেলিত রাজ্যগুলোতে তার যে প্রভাব পড়েছে, বিশ্লেষণ করে দেখলে, ভারতের শোষিত অঞ্চল এবং জনগোষ্ঠীর শোষণমুক্তির সংগ্রামের সঙ্গে একটা সাযুজ্য, একটা মিল, একটা প্রবহমানতা অনায়াসে আবিষ্কার করা যায়। উদাহরণস্বরূপ তৎকালীন পূর্ব পাকিস্তানের ভাষা আন্দোলনের কথা ধরা যেতে পারে। এ আন্দোলনের অব্যবহিত পরেই হিন্দি ভাষার আগ্রাসনের বিরুদ্ধে তামিল ভাষাভাষী অঞ্চলে ভাষা এবং সংস্কৃতির অবাধ বিকাশের দাবিতে আন্দোলন ও বিক্ষোভ সংঘটিত হয়। পরবর্তীকালে অন্যান্য ভাষাভাষী অঞ্চলেও কমবেশি এ আন্দোলন ছড়িয়ে পড়ে। বাংলাদেশ স্বাধীন হওয়ার পরে ভারতের রাজ্যসমূহের অনেকগুলোতে যে নতুন করে স্বায়ত্তশাসনের দাবিতে বিক্ষোভ, সংঘর্ষ এবং তুমুল গণসংগ্রাম ভারতীয় ইউনিয়নের ঐক্যের ভিতটিকে একরকম কাঁপিয়ে তুলেছে তার স্বরূপটি উপলব্ধি করলেই বাংলাদেশের জাতীয় সংগ্রামের চরিত্রটি অনায়াসে উদ্ঘাটন করা সম্ভব হবে। আসলে ভারতবর্ষ হিন্দু-মুসলমান দু'জাতির দেশ নয়। ভারত বহু জাতি, বহু ভাষা, বহু সাংস্কৃতিক বৈশিষ্ট্যের দেশ। বৃটিশ সাম্রাজ্যের বিদায়কালে অবহেলিত অঞ্চল, জনগোষ্ঠী এবং সাংস্কৃতিক বৈশিষ্ট্যসমূহ ভারতীয় হিন্দু-মুসলমান বুর্জোয়া শ্রেণীর চাপে সোচ্চার এবং মারমুখী হয়ে উঠতে পারেনি। অবহেলিত অঞ্চল এবং জনগোষ্ঠীর মানুষরা সংগঠিত হয়ে বুর্জোয়া নেতৃত্বের বিরুদ্ধে কোনো চ্যালেঞ্জ করতে পারেনি এবং আপসে হিন্দু ও মুসলিম বুর্জোয়া শ্রেণী দেশবিভাগে ঐকমত্যে পৌঁছে। মোটামুটি হিসেবে ১০ কোটি মুসলমান এবং ৩০ কোটি হিন্দু ধরে নিয়ে ভারতকে বিভক্ত করা হয়। পাকিস্তান সৃষ্টির বেলায় দু'অঞ্চলের ভৌগোলিক দূলত্ব এবং সাংস্কৃতিক বৈশিষ্ট্যকে কোনো গুরুত্বই দেয়া হয়নি। শুধু মুসলমান পরিচয়টাকে একমাত্র পরিচয় বলে ধরা হয়েছে। তেমনি হিন্দু পরিচয়ের ক্ষেত্রেও অনেকগুলো পর্বতপ্রমাণ বৈষম্য ধর্তব্যের বিষয় বলেই গণ্য করা হয়নি। হিন্দুদের মধ্যে বর্ণহিন্দু এবং হরিজন রয়েছে। তাদের মধ্যে সামাজিক-সাংস্কৃতিক যে ব্যবধান, যে দূরত্ব, যে বৈষম্য বিরাজমান তা হিন্দু-মুসলমানদের দূরত্বের চাইতে কম নয়। এছাড়াও রয়েছে আদিবাসী এবং শিখ। এক সম্প্রদায় কর্তৃক অন্য সম্প্রদায়ের এক অঞ্চল কর্তৃক অন্য অঞ্চলের শোষণ এবং এক জাতিগোষ্ঠী কর্তৃক অন্যান্য জাতিগোষ্ঠীর নিপীড়ন সমানে চলে আসছে। সেদিক দিয়ে ধরতে গেলে ভারত বহু জাতি, বহু ভাষা এবং বহু সংস্কৃতির দেশ। এখানে সোভিয়েত রাশিয়া কিংবা চীনের মতো একটা বিপ্লব ঘটে গেলে নির্দিষ্ট সময়ের ব্যবধানে এই দ্বন্দ্বসমূহের হয়তো নির্বাসন করা সম্ভব হতো। ভারতের হিন্দু-মুসলমান বুর্জোয়া তাদের শ্রেণীগত কারণে একটা বিপ্লবের পথরোধ করার উদ্দেশ্যেই ভারত বিভাগকে কবুল করে নিয়েছিল।
ঐতিহাসিকভাবে ভারত উপমহাদেশের সমস্ত অঞ্চল দীর্ঘকাল একসঙ্গে অবস্থান করার কারণে রাষ্ট্রীয় সীমানা আলাদা হওয়া সত্ত্বেও একের প্রভাব অন্যের ওপর পড়তে বাধ্য। এখন আসা যাক বাংলাদেশের জাতীয় সংগ্রামের স্বরূপটি নিরূপণের প্রশ্নে। ভারত বহুভাষিক, বহুজাতিক দেশ। বাংলাদেশের জাতীয় মুক্তিসংগ্রাম সেই সত্যকে আরো প্রোজ্জ্বল এবং আরো বাস্তবভাবে তুলে ধরেছে। পাকিস্তানের সঙ্গে ভৌগোলিক দলত্বের কারণে বাংলাদেশের সামনে কতিপয় সুযোগ ছিল। তাই প্রথম চোটেই সে মাথা তুলে দাঁড়াতে পেরেছে। অপরপক্ষে ভারতের রাজ্যসমূহের সে সুযোগ ছিল না। ক্রমাগত যতোই দিন এগিয়ে যাচ্ছে এই দ্বন্দ্বসমূহ একসার অগ্নিগিরির মতো একটার পর একটা জ্বলে উঠতে আরম্ভ করেছে। ভারতীয় রাজনীতির কেন্দ্রমুখী এবং কেন্দ্রবিরোধী এই দুটি ধারা মূলত গোষ্ঠীবিশেষের শোষণ এবং তার বিরুদ্ধে শোষিত অঞ্চল ও গণগোষ্ঠীসমূহের প্রতিবাদ-প্রতিরোধ মিলেই গড়ে উঠেছে। শোষিত জাতিসত্তাসমূহের জাতীয়তার দাবি রাষ্ট্রের সহায়তায় আরোপিত ভারতীয় জাতীয়তার জগদ্দল পাথরের তলায় চাপা পড়ে রয়েছে। অতি সাম্প্রতিককালে পাঞ্জাব, আসাম, কাশ্মির, মিজোরাম এবং নাগাল্যান্ড ইত্যাদি অঞ্চলে প্রবল ঝঞ্ঝার বেগ নিয়ে জাগ্রত হয়ে উঠতে আরম্ভ করেছে।
বাংলাদেশের জাতীয়তার যে সংগ্রাম, শ্রেণী-দৃষ্টিকোণ থেকে বিচার করলে দেখা যাবে ভারতবর্ষের নির্যাতিত জাতিসমূহের সংগ্রামের সঙ্গে তার অনেক বেশি সাযুজ্য। তাই বাংলাদেশের জাতীয়তাকে কিছুতেই মুহম্মদ আলি জিন্নাহর দ্বিজাতিতত্ত্বের ভুল সংশোধন বলা যাবে না। বরঞ্চ একথা বলাই অধিকতর যুক্তিসঙ্গত যে বাংলাদেশের জাতীয়তার সংগ্রাম ভারতবর্ষের বহু জাতীয়তার সংগ্রামের পূর্বাভাস মাত্র। বাঙালি জাতীয়তারএই দুটি পরিপ্রেক্ষিতের মধ্যে শেখ মুজিব প্রথমটাকেই মেনে নিয়েছিলেন অর্থাৎ তিনি এবং তার দল রাজনীতির ভিত্তিস্বরূপ দ্বিজাতিতত্ত্বের ব্যর্থতাকেই আসল অবলম্বন হিসেবে গ্রহণ করেছিলেন। অত্যাচার-নির্যাতন এবং অবদমনের কংস-কারার ভারতীয় রাজ্যসমূহে জাতীয়তার যে নতুন অভিধা তৈরি হচ্ছিল তার সবটুকু দৃষ্টিগোচর নয়, প্রবল প্রক্ষোভে কোথাও মাথাচাড়া দিয়ে উঠতে চাইছে, কোথাও একেবারে ভ্রুণাবস্থায় সংগুপ্ত রয়েছে। বাংলাদেশ নিজের মুক্তির সংগ্রাম করতে যেয়ে এই জাতিসত্তাসমূহের সংগ্রামে নেতৃত্বদান করছে এই সত্য মুজিব কিংবা আওয়ামী লীগ কখনো উপলব্ধি করেননি। বৃটিশ-বিরোধী টুটাফাটা ভারতীয় কংগ্রেসের জাতীয়তাবাদকেই বাঙালি জাতীয়তাবাদের উপজীব্য বলে ধরে নিয়েছিলেন তিনি। বাংলাদেশের মধ্যশ্রেণী যাদের অধিকাংশই শুরুতে তৎকালীন পূর্ব পাকিস্তানের স্বায়ত্তশাসনের পর্যন্ত বিরোধিতা করেছিলেন তারাই শেখ মুজিবের চারপাশে জুটে সমস্ত পরিবেশটাকে আচ্ছন্ন করে রেখেছিল।
শেখ মুজিবুর রহমান বাঙালি জাতীয়তার আসল প্রেক্ষিতটাই নির্ণয় করেননি। গোটা জাতি যখন চূড়ান্ত সংগ্রাম কাঁধে নেয়ার জন্য মানসিকভাবে প্রস্তুত, তিনি জনগণকে সশস্ত্র সংগ্রামের জন্য তৈরি না করে তাদেরকে একটার পর একটা তামাশার মধ্যে ঠেলে দিয়ে অনাবশ্যক সময় হরণ করেছেন। আর ইত্যবসরে পাকিস্তানিরা জাহাজে-প্লেনে বোঝাই করে পশ্চিমাঞ্চল থেকে সৈন্য এবং মারণাস্ত্র এনে সেনা-ছাউনিগুলো বোঝাই করে ফেলছে। সেই সম্ভাবনাময় সময়ের কোনো সুযোগ তিনি গ্রহণ করতে পারেননি। কারণ তার ভয় ছিল, তা করতে গেলে মধ্যশ্রেণীর নেতৃত্ব কাচের ঘরের মতো চুরমার হয়ে ভেঙে পড়বে। তথাপি জনমতের প্রবল ঝড়ের ঠেলায় তাঁকে স্বাধীনতার নামটি উচ্চারণ করতে হয়েছিল। ব্যাস ওইটুকুই। বস্তুত বাঙালি জাতির সর্বশ্রেষ্ঠ কাব্য গীতাঞ্জলি নয়, বলাকা নয়, সোনার তরী নয়, 'আর দাবায়ে রাখবার পারবা না'। সহস্রাধিক বছরের পরাধীন জীবনের অস্তিত্বের প্রতি সরাসরি অস্বীকৃতি জানিয়ে এই উচ্চারণের মাধ্যমে গোটা জাতির চিত্তলোকে তিনি এমন একটা অনমনীয় আকাংক্ষার সৃষ্টি করেছিলেন যা আমাদের মুক্তিযুদ্ধের বিরাট এক প্রেরণা হিসেবে কাজ করেছে। এই গৌরব শেখ মুজিবকে অবশ্যই দিতে হবে।
যা বলছিলাম, শেখ মুজিব সময়ের সন্তান; পিতা নন। ঘটনার গতি তাকে ঠেলে নিয়ে গিয়েছিল, তিনি ঘটনাস্রোত নিয়ন্ত্রণ করে একটা নির্দিষ্ট লক্ষ্যের পানে এগিয়ে নিয়ে যেতে পারেননি। সময় শেখ মুজিবকে সৃষ্টি করেছে। অভিনব সম্ভাবনাসম্পন্ন সময়ের স্রষ্টা তিনি নন। তার জাতীয়তার বোধ অতীতের, ভবিষ্যতের নয়। অতীতচারী জাতীয়তার মোহে আবিষ্ট শেখ মুজিব মধ্যযুগীয় 'নাইটে'র মতো বীরত্ব সহকারে পাকিস্তানের কারাগারে চলে গেলেন। প্রতিরোধ সংগ্রাম লণ্ডভন্ড-ছত্রখান হয়ে পড়ল। আর বাংলাদেশের মুক্তিযুদ্ধ সীমান্ত অতিক্রম করে ভারতে আশ্রয় নিলো। ভারত সক্রিয়ভাবে মুক্তিযুদ্ধের দায়িত্বভার গ্রহণ করার পর থেকে মুক্তিযুদ্ধের চরিত্র সম্পূর্ণ পাল্টে যায়। শেখ মুজিবুর রহমানের দোদুল্যমান এই নেতৃত্ব জাতিকে সংগ্রাম করে স্বাধীনতা অর্জনের পুরোপুরি গৌরব থেকে চিরকালের জন্য বঞ্চিত করেছে এবং ভারতের সহায়তায় স্বাধীনতা অর্জনের মাশুল অনেকদিন পর্যন্ত শোধ করতে হলো বাংলাদেশকে।
বাংলাদেশের মুক্তিসংগ্রাম যে ভারতের নিজস্ব যুদ্ধে পরিণত হলো তার পেছনে যে কারণটি সক্রিয় তা হলো শেখ মুজিবের নেতৃত্বাধীন মধ্যশ্রেণীভুক্ত আওয়ামী লীগের শ্রেণীচরিত্র। বঙ্গোপসাগরের সুনীল জলধিতল মন্থিত করে নতুন ভূখণ্ড জেগে ওঠার মতো প্রতিরোধের প্রবল আকাক্সক্ষা নিয়ে বাংলাদেশের নিচের দিকের সামাজিক স্তরসমূহ ঠেলে ওপরের দিকে উঠে এসেছে। এই জাগরিত জনসংখ্যা, এই নতুন রাজনৈতিক বাস্তবতা দর্শন করে শেখ মুজিব আশান্বিত হওয়ার চেয়ে অধিক আতঙ্কিতই হয়েছিলেন। কারণ শেখ মুজিব তার শ্রেণীর দম কতদূর, লক্ষ্য কোথায়, এদের নিয়ে কতখানি যেতে পারবেন, জানতেন। এই সংকটপূর্ণ সময়ে একচুল এদিক-ওদিক হলে কাচের তৈজসপত্রের মতো নেতত্ব খানখান হয়ে ভেঙে পড়বে। তিনি সে বিষয় বিলক্ষণ অবগত ছিলেন। নতুন রাজনৈতিক বাস্তবতা অর্থাৎ যুদ্ধ করার সংকল্প নিয়ে জেগে ওঠা জাতিকে যুদ্ধ করার প্রস্তুতির দিকে চালিত না করে, তিনি ইয়াহিয়া খানের সঙ্গে আলোচনার পথ বেছে নিলেন। আলোচনার ছল করে ইয়াহিয়া খান পাকিস্তান থেকে নৌপথে, আকাশপথে সৈন্য এনে ব্যারাক ভর্তি করে চরম মুহূর্তটির অপেক্ষা করছেন। ২৫ মার্চের রাতে পাকিস্তানি সেনাবাহিনী নিস্তব্ধ নগরীর নিরস্ত্র জনগণের ওপর যখন ঝাঁপিয়ে পড়ল, দাঁড়িয়ে-দাঁড়িয়ে মার খাওয়া ছাড়া আর উপায় ছিল কি? তথাপি বাংলাদেশের জনগণের প্রতিরোধ সংগ্রাম নির্মূল করা পাকিস্তানি সেনাবাহিনীর পক্ষে সম্ভব হয়নি। জনগণ হাতের কাছে যা পেয়েছে তাই দিয়ে পাকিস্তানি সেনাবাহিনীর বিরুদ্ধে লড়েছে। কামান, বন্দুক, স্যাভর জেটের সামনে বলতে গেলে খালি হাতে কতদূর! খুনী, জল্লাদ ইয়াহিয়া বাহিনীর হাতে মারের পর মার খেয়ে উলঙ্গ অসহায় রিক্ত অবস্থায় বাংলাদেশের মুক্তিযুদ্ধ ভারতের মাটিতে হুমড়ি খেয়ে পড়ল।
শেখ মুজিব কিংবা আওয়ামী লীগের যুদ্ধ করার কোনো পূর্ব-পরিকল্পনা থাকলে ভারত থেকে আগেভাগে প্রয়োজনীয় অস্ত্রশস্ত্র আনিয়ে রাখতেন। বাংলাদেশের একটা অঞ্চল যদি মুক্তিসেনাদের দখলে থাকতো এবং সেখান থেকে মুক্তিযুদ্ধ চালানো হতো, আমাদের মুক্তিসংগ্রামের চরিত্রটি সম্পূর্ণ পাল্টে যেতে পারতো। আমাদের মুক্তিসেনাদের সাহসের অভাব ছিল না, আত্মত্যাগের বেলায় তারা কখনো পরাক্সমুখ হননি। কিন্তু অভাব ছিল অস্ত্রের। একমাত্র উন্নত অস্ত্রশস্ত্রের মোকাবেলায় টিকতে না পেরে আমাদের প্রতিরোধ সংগ্রাম বারবার পিছু হটে শেষযাত্রায় ভারতে পলায়ন করতে বাধ্য হয়েছে। ভারতে আশ্রয় নেয়ার কারণে বাংলাদেশের জাতীয় মুক্তিসংগ্রাম সম্বন্ধে পাকিস্তানিদের ভ্রান্ত প্রচারণা আন্তর্জাতিক মহলে অনেক সংশয়ের সৃষ্টি করেছে। বলতে হবে শেখ মুজিব এবং আওয়ামী লীগ নেতৃত্ব ইচ্ছে করে এ পরিস্থিতির সৃষ্টি করেছিলেন অথবা একটি সশস্ত্র জাতীয় মুক্তিযুদ্ধ সম্পর্কে কোনো পরিপূর্ণ ধারণাই তাদের ছিল না। আশা করি সব একমত হবেন, বিমান এবং ট্যাংক-ধ্বংসী কিছু অস্ত্রসহ অন্তত শুরুতে দুতিনটি জেলায় যদি ঘাঁটি গেড়ে বসা যেতো, বাংলাদেশের মাটিতে দাঁড়িয়েই ওই যুদ্ধ সম্পন্ন করা যেতো। পাকিস্তানিদের সঙ্গে যুদ্ধটা সরাসরি বাঙালিদের সঙ্গে বাংলাদেশের মাটিতে হলে বাংলাদেশি জনগণের মনেও ভিন্নরকম প্রতিক্রিয়া হতো। মুক্তিযুদ্ধকে ভারতের আগ্রাসী যুদ্ধ মনে করে অনেক দেশপ্রেমিক নাগরিকও এ যুদ্ধের বিরোধিতা করেছে। সেটি ঘটতে পারতো না।
'গলদ আমাদের চরিত্রের মধ্যে, গ্রহ-নক্ষত্র সে জন্যে দায়ী নয়।' শেখ মুজিবুর রহমানের ব্যাপারে পর্যালোচনাকালে শেকসপীয়রের উল্লিখিত পংক্তিটি খুবই সারগর্ভ এবং তাৎপর্যবহ বলে প্রতীয়মান হবে। মানুষ জীবন দিয়েই তো সবকিছু করে। তার কোনো কর্মই জীবন থেকে আলাদা বা বিচ্ছিন্ন নয়। শেখ সাহেব তার নিজের সম্পর্কে কিছু লেখেননি বা অন্য কেউ এ পর্যন্ত অনুসন্ধান বা গবেষণা ইত্যাদির সাহায্যে তার জীবনকথা রচনা করেননি। তার ওপর আজতক যে সমস্ত পুস্তক আমাদের দেশে প্রকাশিত হয়েছে তাতে তার মানস-গঠনের চিত্রটি কেউ তুলে ধরেননি। শেখ মুজিবের পোশাকি জীবন এবং তার রাজনৈতিক কর্মকাণ্ডের খতিয়ান হয়তো পাওয়া যাবে। কিন্তু ব্যক্তি-মুজিবকে সেখান থেকে খুঁজে বের করা অনেকটা খড়ের গাদায় সূঁচের তালাশ করার মতোই দুরূহ ব্যাপার।
সে যা হোক, শেখ সাহেবের রাজনৈতিক জীবনের সূচনা ঘটে কলকাতা শহরে। ফরিদপুরের গোপালগঞ্জ থেকে আনুমানিক চল্লিশের দশকের একেবারে শেষ এবং পঞ্চাশের দশকের শুরুর দিকে তিনি ইসলামিয়া কলেজের ছাত্র হিসেবে কলকাতা শহরে আসেন। তখন অবিভক্ত বাংলায় শেরে বাংলা এ. কে. ফজলুল হকের মুখ্যমন্ত্রীত্বের কাল। মুসলিম লীগের দাবিতে পাকিস্তান আন্দোলনের হাওয়া জোরোসোরে বইতে শুরু করেছে। কংগ্রেস রাজনীতি গান্ধী এবং সুভাষ বসুর মতাদর্শগত পার্থক্যকে কেন্দ্র করে দুই মেরুতে বিচ্ছিন্ন হয়ে পড়েছে। যুবক মুজিবের কলকাতা আগমনের অনতিকাল পূর্বে সুভাষ বসু জাপান-জার্মানির সহায়তায় সশস্ত্র সংগ্রামের মাধ্যমে ভারতবর্ষ স্বাধীন করার ব্রত নিয়ে ভারত থেকে অন্তর্ধান করেছেন। তার প্রতিষ্ঠিত 'ফরওয়ার্ড ব্লক' জাতীয় রাজনীতিতে অত্যন্ত সক্রিয়। কমিউনিস্ট পার্টি কলে-মিলে, কারখানায়, কৃষক-সমাজে এবং প্রগতিশীল বুদ্ধিজীবীদের মধ্যে অনেকখানি জনপ্রিয়তা লাভ করেছে। শেখ মুজিবের মতো আত্মপ্রত্যয়সম্পন্ন একজন যুবক কলকাতা শহরে এসে সাম্প্রদায়িক রাজনীতিকে অঙ্গীকার করে মুসলিম লীগে নাম লেখালেন। তখনকার পরিবেশ-পরিস্থিতির বিচারে এটাই হয়তো স্বাভাবিক। কিন্তু মুজিবের পরবর্তী কর্মকা- বিবেচনার মধ্যে ধরলে তা খানিকটা বিষ্মিতই করে। হুমায়ুন কবিরও ফরিদপুর জেলার মানুষ। তৎকালীন মুসলিম ছাত্রসমাজে তিনি ছিলেন একটা দৃষ্টান্ত। হুমায়ুন কবির কংগ্রেস রাজনীতিতে নিজেকে সমর্পণ করেছেন। তৎকালীন পূর্ববঙ্গের কৃষক-সমাজ থেকে আগত কমরেড মুজফফর আহমদ কমিউনিস্ট রাজনীতিতে আত্মনিয়োগ করেছেন। তার রাজনৈতিক জীবনের সূচনাপর্বে এ দুজনের কেউই তার দৃষ্টি আকর্ষণ করেননি। মুজিবের মতো একজন প্রাণবান তেজোদ্দীপ্ত যুবক অতি সহজে নেতাজী সুভাষ বসুর ফরোয়ার্ড ব্লকে যোগদান করতে পারতেন, এটা আশা করা মোটেই অন্যায় নয়। কিন্তু তিনি মুসলিম লীগের রাজনীতিকে কবুল করলেন। বাংলার মুসলিম লীগের মধ্যে আবার তিনটি উপদল। একটির নেতৃত্ব দিচ্ছিলেন খাজা নাজিমুদ্দিন। সামন্ত-ভূস্বামী গোষ্ঠীর লেঅকেরাই ছিল এ উপদলের সমর্থক এবং পৃষ্ঠপোষক। অন্য অংশের নেতৃত্বে ছিলেন আবুল হাসিম। রাজনীতি সচেতন, বামপন্থী চিন্তাচেতনায় প্রভাবিত মুসলিম ছাত্র এবং বুদ্ধিজীবী শ্রেণী এই অংশের ঘোরতর সমর্থক ছিল। এ দুটি ছাড়া তৃতীয় উপদলটির নেতৃত্ব দিচ্ছিলেন হোসেন শহীদ সোহরাওয়ার্দী। শেখ সাহেব সোহরাওয়ার্দী সাহেবের উপদলে গিয়ে জুটলেন। সোহওয়ার্দী সাহেব শহর থেকে নিয়ন্ত্রণ করা যায় এমন ডাকসাইটে লড়াকু কর্মিবাহিনী সহযোগে আধুনিক রাজনৈতিক সংগঠন গড়ে তোলার প্রয়োজনীয়তা সর্বপ্রথম অনুভব করে সেরকম সংগঠন গড়ে তুলতে প্রবৃত্ত হলেন। তার কাছে উদ্দেশ্যই হলো প্রধান, উপায় নির্ধারণের বেলায় তার মধ্যে নৈতিকতা বোধের বিশেষ বালাই ছিল না বলে মনে করার কারণে 'গ্রেট ক্যালকাটা কিলিংয়ে'র সময় শহীদ সোহরাওয়ার্দী দাঙ্গাকারীর ভূমিকা গ্রহণ করেছিলেন বলে অভিযোগ উত্থাপন করা হয়।
এ সময়ে হোসেন সোহরাওয়ার্দীর সঙ্গে শেখ মুজিবুর রহমানের পরিচয় ঘটা এবং তার একজন বিশ্বস্ত কর্মীতে পরিণত হওয়া সবকিছুকে একটা কাকতালীয় ব্যাপার বলে উড়িয়ে দেয়ার কোনো উপায় নেই। পারস্পরিক প্রয়োজনের ভিত্তিতেই এ ধরনের গুরু-শিষ্যের সম্পর্ক গড়ে উঠেছিল। সোহরাওয়ার্দীর শিষ্যত্ব গ্রহণ শেখ মুজিবের জীবনে অত্যন্ত গুরুত্বপূর্ণ একটা ব্যাপার। রাজনীতির প্রতি তার দৃষ্টিভঙ্গির ধরণটার মূল পরিচয়ও এতে পাওয়া যাবে। তার উচ্চাকাংক্ষা ছিল, দৃঢ়তা ছিল, আর ছিল তীব্র গতিশীলতা। কোনো পর্যায়ে রাজনৈতিক আদর্শবাদ তার জীবনকে নিয়ন্ত্রণ করেনি। বুদ্ধি, মেধা, প্রতিভা কিংবা দূরদর্শিতা কখনো তার মধ্যে অধিক দেখা যায়নি। রাজনীতি বলতে ক্ষমতা, ক্ষমতা দখলের উপায়, এটুকু তালিম তিনি শহীদ সোহরাওয়ার্দী সাহেবের কাছ থেকে ভালোভাবে পেয়েছেন। চোখের সামনে যা দেখা যায়, যা স্পর্শকরা যায় তার বাইরে কোনোকিছুকে তলিয়ে দেখার ক্ষমতা তার ছিল না। দৃষ্টিভঙ্গির সঙ্কীর্ণতা এবং অনমনীয় ইচ্ছাশক্তি এ দুটোই ছিল শেখ মুজিবের চরিত্রের অন্যতম বৈশিষ্ট্য। জীবনের শেষদিন পর্যন্ত তিনি এ দুটো পরিহার করতে পারেননি। ইংরেজিতে যাকে বলা হয় 'পলিটিকস অব এক্সিজেনসি', তিনি গোটা জীবনভর সেই ধরনের রাজনীতিই করে গেছেন। সুযোগ যখন তাকে যতদূর নিয়ে গেছে, তিনি সেখানেই দাঁড়িয়ে পরবর্তী সুযোগের অপেক্ষা করেছেন। মওলানা ভাসানী এবং হোসেন শহীদ সোহরাওয়ার্দীর মধ্যে যখন ইঙ্গ-মার্কিন জোটে যোগদান এবং স্বাধীন জোটনিরপেক্ষ পররাষ্ট্রনীতির প্রশ্নে বিভেদ দেখা দেয় শেখ মুজিব অবলীলায় সোহরাওয়ার্দীকে সমর্থন দিয়েছেন এবং ইঙ্গ-মার্কিন জোটের প্রতি আনুগত্য প্রকাশ করেছেন। আবার যখন তৎকালীন পূর্ব পাকিস্তানের স্বায়ত্বশাসনের প্রশ্নে সোহরাওয়ার্দীর সরকারের অনুসৃত নীতির বিরুদ্ধে বিক্ষোভ দেখা দিয়েছে তার জবাবে সোহরাওয়ার্দী বলেছিলেন, পূর্ব পাকিস্তানকে শতকরা আটানব্বই ভাগ স্বায়ত্বশাসন এরই মধ্যে দেয়া হয়েছে। সেদিন শেখ মুজিব তার নেতার বিরুদ্ধে বলার মতো কোনোকিছুই খুঁজে পাননি বরং সোহরাওয়ার্দী যা বলেছেন ধ্রুবসত্য ধরে নিয়ে তার নির্দেশ মেনে কাজ করে গেছেন। এটা সত্যি খুব আশ্চর্যের যে, যে মানুষটিকে বাঙালির 'জাতির পিতা' বলে অভিহিত করা হয় সেই একই মানুষটি উনিশশো পঁয়ষট্টি সালের আগে কখনো বাংলাদেশের রাজনৈতিক গন্তব্য নিয়ে বিশেষ মাথা ঘামিয়েছেন, এমন কোনো প্রমাণ বড় একটা পাওয়া যায় না। এমনকি সেই সময়ে পূর্ব পাকিস্তানকে যারা পূর্ব বাংলা বলতো, তাদেরকে তারাও, পাকিস্তান-ভিত্তিক দক্ষিণপন্থী অন্যান্য দলের মতো, বিদেশের বিশেষ করে ভারত-রাশিয়ার চর বলে সম্বোধন করতে বিন্দুমাত্র কুণ্ঠিত হয়নি।
১৯৬৫ সালের ভারত-পাকিস্তান যুদ্ধের সময়ে বাংলাদেশের সংখ্যাধিক জনগণ মর্মে-মর্মে উপলব্ধি করে যে, তাদের আসল বিপদের সময়ে পাকিস্তান সত্যি সত্যি পাশে এসে দাঁড়াতে সক্ষম নয়। অখ- পাকিস্তানের প্রতি জনগণের যেটুকু নাড়ির যোগ ছিল তার আবেদন একেবারে অবদমিত হয়ে যায়। সেই সময়ে বাঙালি মধ্যশ্রেণীর রাজনৈতিক সংগঠন আওয়ামী লীগ 'ছয় দফা' দাবি নিয়ে জনগণের সামনে এসে হাজির হয়। এটা উল্লেখ করা নিষ্প্রয়োজন যে, বাংলাদেশের জনগণের মধ্যে ছয় দফা দাবি ব্যাপক সাড়ার সঞ্চার করে এবং এই আন্দোলনের মাধ্যমেই জনগণের মধ্যে শেখ মুজিবুর রহমানের নতুন ভাবমূর্তি জাগ্রত হয়। এ সময়েও একটা কথা সত্যি যে আওয়ামী লীগ বা আওয়ামী লীগের অঙ্গ-সংগঠনসমূহ বিশ্বাসে, আচরণে ছিল চূড়ান্তভাবে সমাজতন্ত্র বিরোধী। ১৯৭০ নির্বাচনের পরে ছাত্ররা যখন তৎকালীন পূর্ব-পাকিস্তানে রাজনীতির স্পিরিট এবং বাহন দুইই হয়ে দাঁড়ায় এবং 'এগারো দফা' কর্মসূচি প্রণয়ন করে, বাধ্য হয়ে আওয়ামী লীগ হাইকমান্ডকে এক ধরনের আপোষমূলক মনোভাব পোষণ করতে হয়। ছয়দফার সংকীর্ণ মধ্যশ্রেণীভিত্তিক রাজনীতি এবং এগারো দফার অধিকতর প্রগতিশীল রাজনীতি একই রাজনৈতিক অঙ্গনে আলাদা আলাদা খাতে প্রবাহিত হতে থাকে। তেল-জলের মতো দুটো মিশ খায়নি। মুক্তিযুদ্ধ যদি সত্যিকার মুক্তিযুদ্ধ হয়ে উঠতে পারতো, এ দুই রাজনীতির মধ্যে সংশ্লেষ সাধিত হয়ে বৃহত্তর একটা জাতীয় জঙ্গি-ঐক্যের ভিত রচনা করতে পারতো। কিন্তু ২৫ মার্চ পাকিস্তানি সেনাবাহিনী আক্রমণ করে বসলো। শেখ মুজিব কারারুদ্ধ হলেন, আওয়ামী লীগ নেতৃত্ব ভারতে পলায়ন করলো, প্রতিরোধ আন্দোলন চুরমার হয়ে গেলো। বাংলাদেশে ক্ষমতাসীন করার অভিপ্রায়ে যুদ্ধে নেমে পড়লো কারণ বিলম্বে বাংলাদেশের মুক্তিসংগ্রামের চরিত্র পরিবর্তিত হয়ে যাওয়ার সমূহ সম্ভাবনা। পেছন থেকে রাশিয়া এসে জুটলো। পাকিস্তানি সেনাবাহিনী পরাজিত হলো। আর ১৯৭১ সালের ১৬ ডিসেম্বর বাংলাদেশ স্বাধীন হলো।
শেখ মুজিবুর রহমান পাকিস্তানের কারাগার থেকে স্বাধীন বাংলাদেশে এলেন। যে 'উইল টু পাওয়ার' তিনি অন্তরে লালন করেছেন সেই আশ্চর্য ক্ষমতামনস্কতা তাকে বাংলাদেশের সর্বময় কর্তৃত্বের আসনে বসালো। কিন্তু এ কোন বাংলাদেশ? চারিদিকে ধ্বংসের স্তূপ। বাতাসে রোদন-ধ্বনি, হত্যা-লুটপাট সমানে চলছে। আওয়ামী লীগের লোকরা শবভুক শকুনের মতো সর্বত্র চক্কর দিয়ে বেড়াচ্ছে। কি করবেন শেখ মুজিব? তার কি করার আছে? যে অমননীয় আকাক্সক্ষার আগুন তাকে ঠেলে এতদূরে নিয়ে এসেছে, সেই আকাংক্ষাই তাকে পাকেপাকে বেঁধে ফেলেছে। পুরাতন বাংলাদেশ নেই, পুরাতন মিত্র মার্কিন যুক্তরাষ্ট্রও তার পেছনে নেই। তথাপি তাঁকে ঘোষণা দিতে হলো তিনি সমাজতন্ত্র করবেন। আওয়ামী লীগের লোকজন মাথা নেড়ে সায় দিলো, তিনি তিনদল ভেঙে একদল করলেন। ইতিহাসের ঘূর্ণাবর্তে অসহায় বন্দী শেখ মুজিব নিজেও ভালো করে জানতেন না, তিনি কি করতে যাচ্ছেন। পেছনে তিনি ফেরত যেতে পারবেন না, সামনে উত্তাল সমুদ্র, সাঁতার দেয়ার আকাংক্ষা তার থাকলেও অভ্যেস নেই, তার লোকজন এতদূর তার সঙ্গে এসেছে, আর যেতে রাজি হবে না। ভেতর থেকে ভরসা না পেয়ে তিনি বাইরের দিকে তাকাতে আরম্ভ করেছেন। মস্কোপন্থী দলগুলো বুদ্ধিপরামর্শ এবং মন্ত্রণা দিতে এগিয়ে এলো। শেখ মুজিবু রহমান সারাজীবনের রাজনীতিতে যা করেননি তাই করতে বাধ্য হলেন। মস্কোর কাছে আত্মসমর্পণ করলেন, তিনি মনে করেছেন রশি তার হাতে আছে, কেননা এখনো মানুষ তাকে দর্শনমাত্রই জয়ধ্বনি করে, তার কথায় হাত ওঠায়। উষ্ণ হৃদয় মুজিব চূড়ান্ত ক্ষমতার অধিকারী হয়েও বিরোধী দলের নেতার মতো বক্তৃতা দিতে পারেন এবং হয়তো মনে করেন এখনো পর্যন্ত ভূখানাঙ্গা মানুষের মনে কণ্ঠস্বরের যাদুমন্ত্রে আশার আলো জ্বালিয়ে তুলতে পারেন।
ক্ষমতার উঁচুমঞ্চে অবস্থান করে এখনো মনে করেন বাংলাদেশের জন্য তিনি অনিবার্য এদিকে ঘটনার নিজস্ব নিয়মে ঘটনা ঘটে যাচ্ছে। গোটা জীবন ঘটনাটা ঘটে যেতে দিয়ে তিনি অপেক্ষা করেছেন এবং প্রতিবাই ভাগ্য তার প্রতি প্রসন্ন হাসি হেসেছে।
কিন্তু তিনি না পারলেন পুরনো পুঁজিবাদী অবস্থায় ফিরে যেতে, না পারলেন একটা প্রগতিশীল অর্থনীতির ভিত প্রতিষ্ঠা করতে। তিনি পাকিস্তানিদের বিচার করতে পারলেন না যেমন, স্বাধীনতা-বিরোধীদের প্রতিও তেমন রূঢ় হতে পারলেন না। আবার আপন দলের মানুষ এমনকি আপন পরিবারের লোকজনদেরও স্বেচ্ছাচারিতা নিবৃত্ত করতে ব্যর্থ হলেন। ৩০ লাখ, না হয় ধরে নিলাম ১০ লাখ, মানুষের রক্তের দরিয়ার ওপরে দাঁড়িয়ে প্রচণ্ড প্রচণ্ড হুঙ্কার দেয়া ছাড়া কিছুই করতে পারছেন না। লুটপাট, অত্যাচার, নির্যাতন, খুন, গুম খুন, পাল্টা খুন সমানে চলছে। ঘটনাস্রোত নিয়ন্ত্রণ করার জন্য যতোই হস্ত প্রসারিত করেন ততোই আউলা হয়ে পড়ে। জনগণ তার কথায় অনুপ্রাণিত হয়ে হ্যামিলনের জাদুকরের মতো পেছনে পেছনে অনুসরণ করেছে। জনগণের তাকে অনুসরণ করার অভ্যাস বহুদিনের, ভেড়ার পালের মতো তাদের তাড়িত করার স্বভাবটিও তার বহু পুরনো। তাই তিনি তখনো মনে করতেন তিনি বাংলার মানুষকে ভালোবাসেন, আর বাংলার মানুষও তাকে ভালোবাসেন। এরই মধ্যে অন্তিম ঘটনাটি দ্রুত পা ফেলে এগিয়ে আসছে। অবশেষে দেখা গেল ১৪ আগস্টের রাতে সপরিবারে গুলিবিদ্ধ মুজিবের দীর্ঘদেহী শরীর চাপচাপ জমাটবাঁধা রক্তের মধ্যে পড়ে আছে নিস্তব্ধ -নিথর। হায়রে শেখ মুজিব, তোমার জন্য অশ্রু, তোমার জন্য বেদনা।
উত্থাপিত প্রশ্নের জবাব কি বলবে? শেখ মুজিব কি একজন প্রকৃত বীর না একজন ভিলেন? তাও-না। বীরত্বের উপাদান তার মধ্যে ছিল, কিন্তু ইতিহাসের আসল প্রেক্ষিতের সঙ্গে তার মিলন ঘটেনি। তাই তিনি একজন প্রকৃত বীর হয়ে উঠতে পারেননি। খুব সম্ভবত শেখ মুজিব একজন করুণ বীর, তার চরিত্র অবলম্বন করে ভবিষ্যতে সার্থক বিয়োগান্ত নাটক লেখা হবে- কিন্তু তার আদর্শ অনুসরণ করে বাংলার ইতিহাসের মুক্তি ঘটানো যাবে না।
