ISI admits funding BNP Fri, Mar 16th, 2012 9:57 pm BdST   Dhaka, Mar 16 (bdnews24.com) –Pakistan's spy agency Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) has admitted that it had funded the BNP during the 1991 general elections which the party won and formed the government.  The confession came from no less than former ISI chief Asad Durrani during a Pakistan Supreme Court hearing on the spy agency's mandate on Wednesday.  He also confessed to supporting insurgency in India's northeast.  Prime minister Sheikh Hasina on Mar 10 accused BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia of taking money from ISI before the June 1996 and Oct 2001 parliamentary elections.  "It is beyond doubt that she (Khaleda) took money before 1996 national polls. The future will reveal more on... I think the amount was higher in 2001," the Awami League chief had said.  But the BNP denied the allegation.  A three-member bench of the top court headed by chief justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhary grilled the former spy agency chief on ISI's funding for politicians both within and outside Pakistan.  Recently a UAE-based daily had alleged that ISI paid 50 crore rupees to BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia ahead of the 1991 elections.  There are allegations that the ISI has been active in Bangladesh whenever the BNP has been in power in 1991-96 and later during 2001-06.  The spy agency was also alleged to have launched a campaign from Bangladesh to destabilise the India's northeast region by patronising and providing logistic support, including funds, to the insurgent groups operating from Bangladesh.  The ISI is also alleged to have supported a network in Bangladesh, which includes the Jamaat-e-Islami, the BNP and northeast insurgents groups during the BNP's rule  bdnews24.com/mi/bd/2110h http://www.bdnews24.com/details.php?cid=2&id=220462&hb=2

পাকিস্তানের গোয়েন্দা সংস্থা ইন্টার সার্ভিসেস ইন্টেলিজেন্সের (আইএসআই) সাবেক প্রধান স্বীকার করেছেন, ১৯৯১ সালে সাধারণ নির্বাচনের সময় সংস্থাটি বাংলাদেশের প্রধান বিরোধী দল বিএনপিকে তহবিল জোগান দিয়েছে। পাকিস্তানের সুপ্রিম কোর্টে এ-সংক্রান্ত একটি মামলায় তিনি এ স্বীকারোক্তি দেন বলে আজ শুক্রবার জানা গেছে। খবর বাসসের।

পাকিস্তান ও ভারতের বিভিন্ন সংবাদমাধ্যমে প্রকাশিত প্রতিবেদনে বলা হয়, আইএসআইয়ের সাবেক প্রধান আসাদ দুররানি গত বুধবার পাকিস্তানের সুপ্রিম কোর্টের জারি করা সমনের উত্তরে এ স্বীকারোক্তি দেন।

ভারতের ইন্ডিয়া টুডের খবরে বলা হয়, 'গোয়েন্দা সংস্থার এখতিয়ার সম্পর্কে পাকিস্তান সুপ্রিম কোর্টের শুনানিতে সাবেক আইএসআই-প্রধান এ স্বীকারোক্তি দেন।'

গোয়েন্দা সংস্থা হিসেবে আইএসআইয়ের এখতিয়ার-সংক্রান্ত এক মামলায় সুপ্রিম কোর্ট এ সমন জারি করেছিলেন।

ইসলামাবাদ-ভিত্তিক নিউজ ইন্টারন্যাশনাল জানায়, গত বুধবার পাকিস্তানের সুপ্রিম কোর্ট অবসরপ্রাপ্ত এয়ার মার্শাল আসগর খানের দায়ের করা এক দশকের পুরোনো এক মামলার শুনানিতে আসাদ দুররানিকে আদালতে হাজির হওয়ার নির্দেশ দেন।

প্রধান বিচারপতি ইফতিখার মোহাম্মদ চৌধুরীর নেতৃত্বে সুপ্রিম কোর্টের তিন সদস্যের বেঞ্চ আসাদ দুররানিকে প্রশ্নবাণে জর্জরিত করেন। তাঁকে পাকিস্তানের অভ্যন্তরে এবং বাইরে রাজনীতিকদের তহবিল জোগানদান-সংক্রান্ত নানা প্রশ্ন করেন।

এ মামলায় আসগর খান রাজনৈতিক উদ্দেশ্যে মেহরান ব্যাংকের মাধ্যমে সরকারি অর্থ ব্যয়ের দায়ে দুররানি ও সাবেক সেনাপ্রধান আসলাম বেগকে অভিযুক্ত করেন।

তেহরিক-ই-ইসতিকলাল দলের নেতা প্রবীণ রাজনীতিক আসগর খান ১৯৯৬ সালে পাকিস্তানের সর্বোচ্চ আদালতে মামলাটি করেন। অভিযোগে বলা হয়, মেহরান ব্যাংক ১৯৯০ সালে অনুদান হিসেবে সেনাপ্রধান আসলাম বেগকে এই অর্থ দেয়। কিন্তু বেগ ইসলামি জামহোরি ইত্তেহাদ (আইজেআই) প্রতিষ্ঠার লক্ষ্যে ব্যবহারের জন্য ঋণ হিসেবে ওই অর্থ আইএসআইকে দেন।

চলতি মাসের শুরুর দিকে সংযুক্ত আরব আমিরাত-ভিত্তিক খালিজ টাইমসের এক প্রতিবেদনে বলা হয়, ১৯৯১ সালে বাংলাদেশে নির্বাচনের সময় পাকিস্তানের সামরিক নেতারা শেখ হাসিনার নেতৃত্বাধীন 'ভারতপন্থী' আওয়ামী লীগের বিরুদ্ধে জয়ী হওয়ার জন্য সহায়তা হিসেবে বিএনপি-প্রধান বেগম খালেদা জিয়াকে ৫০ কোটি রুপি দেন।

আসাদ দুররানির স্বীকারোক্তি এমন একসময় পাওয়া গেল, যখন বিএনপি ওই প্রতিবেদনের বক্তব্যকে নাকচ করে দিয়েছে। আজ বিএনপির ভারপ্রাপ্ত মহাসচিব মির্জা ফখরুল ইসলাম আলমগীর ওই অভিযোগের সপক্ষে প্রমাণ দাবি করেন।
