Re: [mukto-mona] Re: Meet Lauren Booth, Tony Blair's sister-in-law, to morrow (Satur day)

Mr. Anwar
Ask Lauren Booth about beheading. See what she says.
You have to make a religion dynamic. The believer must not get stuck in the time when the religion was born. As much as I understand, I consider the prophet of Islam a dynamic, pragmatic, and forward looking man. I have seen how he revised his teachings in the light of new realities. I am sure if he were alive today, he would have preached more civilized methods of punishment. Beheading or stoning to death were the old practices. Now better methods have been invented. Beheading was also practiced in non-Islamic societies. It was even practiced in medieval Europe. It is no more there possibly except in Saudi Arabia. Crucifixion or "shool" (believed to have been practiced by some Indian kings) are no more used. Even beheading was replaced in Europe by a better method name beheading by guillotine. As societies are getting more and more civilized, mode of punishment is also evolving. Cutting hands for stealing or cutting tongue for lying are now treated as too cruel and uncivilized. Even psychology of punishment has changed. In some cases the term "correction center" is used. The guilty person may still be corrected. It may sometimes be appropriate to hate the sin, not the sinner. Modern society is now more civilized to explore in what circumstances a thief had to steal. It has learned to look at the culprit with compassion. Great religions also teach this. Punishment is no more considered as a revenge.

Mr. Subimal,

You mentioined that, I support  death by beheading. My understanding is that,  if you are a believer of Islam you have to believe in Islam and its holy book Al-Quran.
Muslims muist believe all declaration in Quran. In that sense,  I support the execution method mentioned in Quran for certain crime (with enough evidence).
Execution method in Western World may be different like execution by electronic method. Excution method in Bangladesh/Pakistan/India is done differently.
In China execution is done by firing squad. Which method is less painful or more humane experts can tell about that. I am not an expert on this issue.
Lauren Booth is not the first person to convert or the last person to convertto Islam. Definitely Lauren Booth's conversion will bring more educated
westerner4s to the shade of Islam.---------- Original Message ----------From: Subimal Chakrabarty <subimal@yahoo.com>To: mukto-mona@yahoogroups.comSubject: [mukto-mona] Re: Meet Lauren Booth, Tony Blair's sister-in-law, tomorrow (Satur day)Date: Sun, 14 Oct 2012 08:27:09 -0500

It is frequently said that in many spheres Islam has been hijacked by the fanatics and the fundamentalists. There is a possibility that Lauren Booth being a new blood and having been born and brought up in an an open environment will be able to influence the hijackers positively. Also we have a colonial attitude and our special respect for the colonial masters may be able to play a positive role here. The liberal preachings by liberal thinkers like Shah Saheb (a self declared atheist) and Farida Majid (a humanitarian and a liberal practitioner of Islam), for example, have so far no impact on Mr. Anwar. He keeps believing in things like open beheading. I hope Lauren Booth will be able to bring new light to such people and thereby will have positive impact on their beliefs. Sent from my iPhone
