As a non-partisan political figure, Mowdud says things that may not be liked by partisan politicians. Mowdud has praised the original secular1972 constitution which his political bosses Zia and Ershad have Islamicized. About a couple of months ago he said that Al Badars who killed our intellectuals were worse than the occupation soldiers. There is a belief that Zia killed Taher to eliminate a potential competitor. Mowdud has brought a new dimension to it: Zia's motive behind killing Taher was to make happy the senior officers repatriated from Pakistan. জিয়াউর রহমানকে কর্নেল তাহেরের খুনি হিসেবে সাক্ষী দেওয়ার প্রতিবাদে শুক্রবার বেলা পৌনে একটার দিকে নয়াপল্টনে স্কাউট মার্কেটের সামনে এই কুশপুতুল পোড়ানোর ঘটনা ঘটে।
কোট পরানো কুশপুতুলটির মাথার স্থানে মওদুদের আলোকচিত্র এবং বুকে 'জিয়াকে খুনি হিসেবে সাক্ষী দানকারী দালাল মওদুদের বিচার চাই' লেখা দেখা গেছে।
কুশপুতুল পোড়ানো শেষে 'মওদুদের দুই গালে, জুতা মারো তালে তালে' স্লোগান দিতে দিতে কর্মীরা ঘটনাস্থল ত্যাগ করে।
উল্লেখ্য, গত ২০ মে কর্নেল তাহের হত্যা মামলার পূর্ণাঙ্গ রায় প্রকাশিত হয়। ওই রায়ে বলা হয়, ট্রাইব্যুনাল গঠনের অনেক আগেই জেনারেল জিয়াউর রহমান কর্নেল তাহেরের মৃত্যুদণ্ড প্রদানে মনস্থির করেন।
আর এ রায়ে হাইকোর্ট উদাহরণ টানেন মওদুদ আহমদ রচিত 'ডেমোক্রেসি অ্যান্ড চ্যালেঞ্জ অব ডেভেলপমেন্ট: এ স্টাডি অব পলিটিক্যাল অ্যান্ড মিলিটারি ইন্টারভেনশান ইন বাংলাদেশ' বই থেকে। মওদুদ পরে তার বইয়ের এই উদ্ধুতি নিয়ে নিজের ব্যাখ্যা দিলেও বিএনপির বিভিন্ন পর্যায়ের নেতাকর্মীরা তার ওপরে ক্ষেপে আছেন।

It was a court martial to disrupt the discipline in the rank and file of Army. Verdict was given from the facts prevailing then, which still prevails.
