Re: [mukto-mona] Theists and atheists - an Opinion piece in the Dailiy Star

The author seems to be unsure about what he wants to say. He believes that philosophy cannot prove the existence of God and neither science can do it although science uses the word God as an adjective. He seems to be confused at this point. Use of the word God or the word ghost---just another example-- in scientific terminology does not imply actual existence of God or a ghost. But he is very right though when he says that God is found in religious texts only. No proof is necessary. It is simply a matter of faith. The believers feel the existence of God in their hearts. I am not surprised that belief in God can be so deep rooted over generations that it can be "written down" in human genes. And here the author contradicts himself. He believes illogically that belief in God is bound to be universal. That's why he can claim that those who claim to be atheists must be joking. Such an intolerance on the part of a modern man educated in math and physics from a good school of a western country is really shocking.

It is a strange write-up.

The particle, Higgs Boson, was called Goddamn Particle initially and God Particle later. The name was given out of frustration because it was too difficult to find, just like God is too difficult to find. This has absolutely nothing to do with the existence of God, might have something to do with the fact that for many centuries people have been believing in God (mostly out of fear of the unknown), and Oh God, Goddamn, My God, etc. are phrases that have gotten into the human vocabulary, even for people who do not believe in God.

It is a very disappointingly poor write up from a Ph.D. in Physics/Mathematics, who is also a former chairman of some kind of a space research and remote sensing organization.
