Re: [mukto-mona] FW: মিতা হকের বাঙ্গালীয়ানা ও মরু-সাম্রাজ্যবাদ

I will not take Mita Huque's comment literally as it is too strong, unfounded, and confusing as well. But we all need to feel the pain she feels as a woman member of the society. That's why my appeal would be to look into the spirits of her emotionally charged outburst. From Hasan Mahmud's detailed and documented clarification it should be clear that the preachers of Islam (he mentioned some names) never recommended borkha. But our male chauvinist illiterate, half literate, and politically motivated mollahs are imposing borkha on the women of the less privileged section of our society. This borkha has not only created security and professional hazards, it has snatched away from the borkha clad woman all her freedom including the economic freedom. Hasan Mahmud also seems to have used a strong phrase i.e., "desert culture". He seems to be tired of fighting against the mollahs and their medieval religious doctrines most of whom also seem to be against the spirits of our great liberation movement
Let us take both Mita Huque and Hasan Mahmud literally. Let us rather use the gist of their thoughts to enlighten our women so that they can stand up against the mollahs for their total freedom.

I do not think it is bullshit. ( I do not know why I hear such expressions at all.) I believe Hasan Mahmud has rather hit the bull's eye. It is not irrelevant to ask what is Bengali and what is not. Perhaps we have come to this pass because we fail to ask questions like this.

Fatemolla (Hasan Mahmud of Canada)r bull shit.  It is dangerous at this juncture to pontificate on 'what is Bangalee' or what is not.  It creates the unnecessary binary opposition of Musulman v. Bangalee.  Yet, we know that it is a fact that there is no such thing as "non-Bangalee razakar".  The ones who are facing trial for crimes committed in 1971 at the Dhaka War Crimes Tribunal right now are all Bangalee.
