Re: [mukto-mona] যে যত মিথ্যাচার করতে পারবে সে তত বড় BNP নেতা হতে পারবে।

Joy is pretty impressive. His replies in most cases are to-the-point.

Joy's target audience should be the urban youth, they generally get swayed easily. Staunch supporters of Awami Leaugue will always vote for Awami Leugue, they don't care about the false propaganda. Around 40% of all votes cast will always go for AL (it was in the low 30 percents in early 90s - ALs achievement under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina had led to this (we should give due credit to her)- even in 2001, AL received 41% of total votes cast).

AL needs to target the floating voters in the cities while holding onto their base in the villages. Sheikh Hasina's haughty speecehes and sarcasms actually reduces her support in that target arena of cities(I politely differ with Dr. Roy, I use to attend all general meetings by AL in the 80s and early 90s if held in Dhaka, SH is not a good public communicator).

If I am not mistaken, AL received 49% of total votes cast in 2008 (they did not contest in all seats- so in fact tehey received over 50% in the seats they contested)  while Mahajot received 56% or so. Out of that at least 10-12% were neutral votes - who got attracted by vision 2021.

Al should target those neutral voters, they have to clearly describe ALs achievement, clearly refute BNP's false allegation and acknowledge where they could not acieve the target yet - at the same time why they could not complete achieving those, clearly explaining the road-blocks and what is being done and will be done to overcome those - for example Padma Bridge).

The main problem faced by AL at this point is lack of unity among the leaders (mainly at district/city level). For example, I am not an insider but it looked like Mahiuddin Chowdhury's campaign was sabotaged by some Chittagong leaders (one of them is Nurul Islam BSc).

SH should show restraint in her speeches, it looks indecent when she points fingers at her rival's personal character - people do not like this even if those are true. She should not encourage MPs like Apu Ukil from indulging in nasty quarrels. AL should have visible difference from BNP, from people like Papia or Jainal Abdin Faruq (remember addressing a police officer as 'Malauner bachcha). How public money is being spent is a public matter, not who sleeps with whom. She should politely request Mr. Muhit to speak less, he is a nice gentleman and competent as a minister, absolutely honest in monetary matters, but he has become senile and does not know what he is talking about - also telling the truth is not always wise - any small investor who expects positive return everyday and expect to run his livelihood from that earning are no doubt 'fatkabaz' but it is unwise to say so if you are the finance minister. Advocate Quamrul Islam should be told to keep quiet too.

SH should beg Suranjit Sengupta to shut his mouth completely, every time he opens his mouth AL loses thousands of votes. Suranjit is a very twisted person  however that 72 lakh taka episode was a well thought-out made-up act. But people perception is that he is the culprit and they already named him 'Kalo Biral'. Also what is the purpose of keeping him as a minister without port-folio?

On the other hand Syed Ashraf seldom speaks, he should be much more active as the General Secretary.

One of the big mistakes of AL government was to provoke Dt. Yunus. Though the goverment did not do anything illegal and also Dr. Yunus has abused his power to quite some extent, he has very powerful friends. Also perception is very important. For example he made some illiterate ladies the members of board of directors just so that they always support him, but this has been successfully portrayed as empowerment of women.

Another mistake is to send Hasan Mahmud to appease Hefajot. Instead they should not had been allowed to held the meeting in Shapla Chattar. Buijja (old in Chittagonian dialect) Shafi will never support AL, even if he did so, hefajotis/wahabis will never vote for AL. Putting your feet in two boats is very dangerous.

In my eyes, the biggest mistake was trying to re-convince World Bank to finance Padma Bridge after their first denial. It was a very bad advice by Mr. Muhit, there were powerful people behind this who wanted to teach AL a lesson, otherwise World Bank never pulls out on the ground of unproven allegation, specially if no money exchanged hands. If that much time was not wasted on trying to convince WB, by this time there would be at leat some pillars erected in the site of the bridge.

Anyway, I am not a political analyst, just writing this haphazard piece as on ordinary supporter, based completely on my personal observations.

AL needs well-targeted comunication and strong unity among its ranks and files. In-fighting is the biggest killer.

Hope my friend Anu reads it - he ignored my friend request in FB though :-)

BNP/Jamat has polluted political environment in Bangladesh with their falsehood and propaganda. Mr. Sajib Wazed Joy is a breath of fresh air in the pollution filled political environment in Bangladesh.

I think  Joy will be a good public communicator as her mother; he could be a role model for young politicians, if he can control himself. Usually, youth political stars become invincible too fast, and end up abusing their power of influence and ultimate become thugs in the end.  I hope - he will keep this mental image in the back of his mind, as well.

All he needs to do is - present government's achievements to the public in a layman language; he won't need to get involved in the dirty politics of falsehood and propaganda, like BNP/Jamat. That's a very good political condition to be in. So far I like what I see.
