President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama invited Anis Ahmed and Mrs. Nasima Ahmed to a White House Christmas (Holiday) reception.
 
Commissioner Anis Ahmed and his wife Nasima Ahmed attended a christmas (holiday) reception upon an invitation by the US President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama yesterday. The reception was held at The White House on Friday, December 20, 2013. It is a great honor for the Bangladeshi community in the United State of America that Mr. Anis and Mrs. Nasima Ahmed were invited to such a highly prestigious national event. Many elected officials, political leaders and national and Hollywood celeb reties were among the invitees at the reception who came from across the nation. President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama shook hands and talked in brief with Mr. Anis Ahmed and Nasima Ahmed at the reception.
 
Mr. Ahmed, a Bangladeshi origin is currently serving as a Commissioner of the Maryland's Governor's Commission on South Asian American Affairs. In 2007, Governor Martin O'Mally appointed him as a Commissioner for the Commission on Asian American Affairs. In 2012, Governor O'Mally again appointed him as a Commissioner for the Commission on South Asian American Affairs for a four year term. Mr. Ahmed also served as Working Group member of the Governor's Council on New Americans from 2009-2011. Hon. Tom Perez who is now Secretary of the US Department of Labor of the Barack Obama's Administration was the head of the Council on New Americans. Mr. Ahmed contributed his expertise in the Council's report which lead the "Dream Act" passed in Maryland and signed by the Maryland Governor.
 
Mr. Anis Ahmed organized and moderated several seminars and workshops on the national issues in Maryland. He coordinated with the top White House Officials in arranging and organizing two community forums in Florida within two years. The first forum which was held in Miami in 2012 was on "Meet and Discussion on Community Issues" with leaders of various communities and the second was on "Community Forum on Immigration" held in Orlando, Florida this year. White Senior Advisers and officials attended in both events. Besides these, Mr. Ahmed attended several conferences, executive briefings, seminars organized and hosted by the White House Office of Public Engagement, White House Initiative on Asian American and Pacific Islanders. He also attended several conference calls organized by the above named White House offices.
 
Mr. Ahmed received Congressional Award in 2012 in recognition of his services to the communities. He is also a Maryland Democratic Party official. He is a Precinct Chairman of the Maryland 6-8 District.
