Re: [mukto-mona] Beloved Symbol of Freedom and Humanism, Nelson Mandela, Dies at the Age of 95

Actually for all the readers of the forum, I must criticize myself by using the proverb, "great haste makes great waste."

Let me make some clarifications of my last lost.

Prior to 1947, Hindus were not the real rulers of India, the British were.

Prior to 1947, Muslims were not ruled by the Hindus; they were ruled by the British. Hindus were ruled by the British as well.

The Hindu community as a whole did not oppress the Muslim community as a whole. Both Hindu and Muslim aristocrats oppressed the grass root population as a whole irrespective of religion. From the Hindu Roy Bahadurs, the Shudra Hindus did not get any better treatment than what the Muslim peasants got. Similarly, from the Muslim Khan Bahadurs, the Muslim peasants did not get any better treatment than what the Shudra Hindus got.

Obviously, because of their better education, there were more Hindu aristocrats than Muslim aristocrats. Looking at the world even today, Muslims, on an average, are likely to continue to be an underclass because of their excessive religiosity, as opposed to emphasis on real education.

Because of the false perception of the Hindus as a whole oppressing the Muslims as whole, the revenge taking and barbaric atrocities were carried out mostly by the Muslims around 1947. Hindus also did carry out retributory barbaric atrocities on the Muslims around 1947. However, in both Pakistan and Bangladesh the barbaric atrocities on the Hindus have continued with impunity, and are going on even today; and they are not communal fights, they are one-sided offences by Muslim criminals. These atrocities are going on all Hindus, including the ones that never had any power to oppress anyone.

In contrast, occasional communal fights do happen in India, where both Hindus and Muslims are offenders, and where Hindu criminals in action do get shot dead by the police. The state does punish the criminals from all religious groups, albeit with typical imperfection there.

Well, thanks to QR for asking the questions. But the answers are really for people who have an open mind.

Prior to 1947, Hindus were not the real rulers of India, and Muslims were not the ruled; although the hate-mongers of the sub-continent (as opposed to the British) have done a lot of complaining about the oppression of Muslims by Hindus. Post-1947 Indian subcontinent, specifically the eastern and western parts, has been witnessing barbarian atrocities, with occasional excuse of revenge-taking, on the Hindus

>>>>>>>>>> Help me to understand your post....

If Muslims were "Not the ruled", what were they doing? Did you forget the British colonial masters?

Are you saying Hindus did not oppress the Muslim population?

Did the revenge taking was done by ONE group of people?

Generally our politicians are known for telling us one sided stories/history. So before I say anything, I like to UNDERSTAND your sentiment on your last post. Thanks.

Shalom!

Sorry for the typo error on the headline in my earlier post.

Let me make a few comments on why I have high regards for Nelson Mandela and the state of South Africa.

Apartheid was a horribly unjust system of oppressing the black majority of South Africa. However, ending of that horrible system did not see the country taking any revenge on the former oppressors. To me, taking revenge is a barbarian concept. Seeking justice and correcting past mistakes are what civilized human beings would do; they would not take revenge.

While I do realize that it would be utterly wrong, from many perspectives, to compare the pre- and post-apartheid South Africa with the pre- and post-partition Indian Subcontinent, let me do a little bit of that inappropriate exercise.

Prior to 1947, Hindus were not the real rulers of India, and Muslims were not the ruled; although the hate-mongers of the sub-continent (as opposed to the British) have done a lot of complaining about the oppression of Muslims by Hindus. Post-1947 Indian subcontinent, specifically the eastern and western parts, has been witnessing barbarian atrocities, with occasional excuse of revenge-taking, on the Hindus. From that perspective, the state of South Africa, under the leadership of Nelson Mandela and his followers, has proven to be a really just and civilized nation.

I liked the Washington Post's front page headline, "Beloved symbol of freedom."

I have added the adjective "humanism" to the title of this mokto-mona post. I salute the great humanist, Nelson Mandela.
