Re: [mukto-mona] [Politiconomy] Fwd: {PFC-Friends} News Published by Al-Jazeera

I know the role some Biharis played during the liberation war, but so did thousands of Bangali Razakars, Al Bdrs, and thousands of their cohorts. Most notorious Rrazakars never apologized, repented, or accepted the reality of Bangladesh, yet people of Bangladesh gave many of them the highest honor within just 3 years after the independence. In fact, the history of Bangladesh is filled with so many such stupidities. There is no end to this insanity; strong support for the anti-liberation ideal is still very well present in many Bangalis. So, there is no reason to treat Biharis differently from the anti-liberation Bangali-crowd.

Biharis are Bangladeshi, just like any other Bangalis. They should be granted all rights and should be treated as Bangladeshi. I remember - the argument behind changing the nationality from "Bangali" to "Bangladeshi" was to incorporate other ethnic groups as nationals in Bangladesh? Biharis have nowhere to go, and I believe – most of them will rejoice the opportunity to be Bangladeshi and be much more loyal to the country than many Bangalis. So, let's end this discrimination against hapless Biharis.

The fact is - Biharis were never the major obstacle to our independence, and they were not responsible for killing our national leaders and intellectuals; culprits were mostly Bangali. So, Bihari situation is a national disgrace.

As
Biharis showed no loyalty to Bangladesh during its
liberation war and despised her ever since, as they sided
with the enemy to deny independence of Bangladesh from the
Pakistani aggressors, they have no right to live in the
country. That they have been allowed to live in the country
so long is a testament to the country's generosity.
Those who were born after the independence, those who speak
Bengali and show their loyalty to the country, should be
given the rights of Bangladeshi citizenship. However, if
some original Biharis now show remorse for their heinous
crimes during liberation war, seek forgiveness and show
loyalty to Bangladesh, then the country should seriously
consider absorbing them. But my gut feeling is that most of
those Biharis still dislike Bangladesh, hope that one day
Pakistan will take over the land and
they will be flourishing again! Biharis issue is an
agonising dilemma for the country.
