Re: [mukto-mona] Re: Meeting with Ambassador

First of all, I am not the Mr. Rahman that Jiten Roy addresses below. I am Dr. A. Rahman from England. I needed to identify myself at the outset, lest Jiten Roy gets confused and start directing fire at random.

It is in Bengali culture to contradict and disagree even when there is nothing contentious. Undeniably minorities in Bangladesh, or even in East Pakistan, had been treated disgracefully and often violently, which no civilised society can condone. The governments of the day had either ignored and overlooked or aided and abetted with the perpetrators. The BNP/Jamaat had been carrying out religious atrocities for a long time and the AL were no angels. There had been undeniable evidence of AL involvement in burning, looting Hindu properties before the recent elections. When I raised this despicable behaviour of the ruling party, Jiten Roy immediately branded me as a BNP supporter. I wrote many articles against BNP/Jamaat's religious excesses and criminality, but Jiten Roy ignored them all or was totally oblivious. However, he seems to have got now a rational, realistic view of the situation existing in Bangladesh. All political parties, to a greater or lesser extent, are guilty of religious misdemeanour and criminality.

I agree with Jiten Roy that truth (or rather facts) must be brought out. But one must be careful about what one calls truth. For example, to Jamaatis the existence of God and His divine messages are the truths. To Narendra Modi Hindu chauvinism is the truth. So the establishment of truth is not as clear cut as it seems. But we must bring out facts and try to show to the world what is fair and what is not.

Mr. Rahman, we do everything openly; we are apolitical, and try to tell the truth by exposing wrongdoing of all political parties. We believe – covering up wrongdoings will only encourage more wrongdoings, not less. Those who have true love for the country won't violate this principle. Every political party, right from the get-go of Bangladesh, has been using religious minorities as political pawn. BNP/Jamat blames religious minorities for their failures, and Awami League inflames violence against religious minorities just to put blame on BNP/Jamat. Religious minorites are footballs in the political game in Bangladesh. This game cannot go on. It needs to stop.

I hear a lot that – exposing bad things about our country will harm the image of the country, meaning we should hide and cover up bad things. I know - this is exactly what a cat also thinks when it hides its dropping under the dirt. It thinks no one will ever find it out. The fact is – cat may hide the physical evidence, but it cannot hide the stink. I remember, Khaleda Zia used this cat-principle in 2001, when she kept on denying all atrocities on religious minorities after the election while they were going on unabated.

Was she able to hide those evidences under the rug? She could not, the whole world knew everything as they were unfolding.

Yes, I saw many evictions from the ancestral lands in the religious majority group also due to land-grabbing by the influential people. The whole system is corrupt now. The point is, we cannot accept the status quo if we really love our country. We need to strive for the better; that's where true love for the country lies.

It's
a disgrace and disappointment that people among us can go
that low to
do such thing. I could understand it - if someone from
Awami League
would do so. In fact, we received call from Bangladesh
Embassy in DC not
to go through with this event. They knew - we will tell the
truth about
Awami League also. They guessed it right. Even BNP people
said - we
delivered impartial messages about all political parties,
and we were
fair and square about the truth.

But,
what we never envisioned is that someone from an imposter
organization, using the same name of the Bangladesh
Hindu, Buddhist, and
Christian Unity Council, will do so.
Obviously, that person is an Awami
Leaguer, which is fine with us. But, our concern is his
political
interest, in this case, superseded interests of the millions
of
religious minorities in Bangladesh.

Member Roy,

I am very happy to learn about your work. Specifically your
effort to keep politics out of this vital national
issue. Go after criminals no matter which party they
belong to and expose those imposter who are distorting our
culture of tolerance and acceptance of each other.

I was watching a report (On ETV-Ekushe tv) on critical
condition of Waqf estates (Similar to debottor shopotti) in
Bangladesh. It appears around 80% of estate properties were
sold (Be definition no one should be able to sell these
properties).

I think corruption gotten so much into our systems that, it
is disturbing and sometimes destroying every fabric of our
society.

Our non-Muslim brothers and sisters are STILL OUR brothers
and sisters!!

Stay authentic and objective, you will see results in
future.

Shalom!

Bangladesh Hindu,
Buddhist, and Christian Unity Council, USA held
a breakfast meeting with honorable US Ambassador to
Bangladesh, Dan W. Mozena, in the Gulshan Terrace, New
York to apprise him of the recent reign of terror on
religious minorities, unleashed by the BNP, Jamat, and, in
some cases, Awami League before and after the general
election in January, 2014.

Turn out at
the event was beyond the capacity of the
Hall (> 400), and hundreds of people had to
stand through the entire event, which lasted more than 2.5
hours. In spite of overcrowded Hall, it was a remarkably
peaceful event; there was no complaining from
attendees. They have, in fact, congratulated
organizers, and expressed their satisfaction
over the event.

Bangladesh Hindu,
Buddhist, and Christian Unity Council will issue
official statements on the event in due
course.

The
greatest satisfaction is - in spite of a Hindu
gentleman (I do not want to disclose his name at this time)
called people in the community to tell them not to
attend this meeting they all came.

Other than that,
everything went smoothly.

Thanks again.
