Re: [mukto-mona]

Mr. Roy,
'Bastard' is rather wrong word for our creepy characters. Actually, no bastard really commits a crime by being a mere product of criminal or good act? My apologies to good bastards.

I did not want to continue any discussion on this topic, because this conversation does not make sense; it conveys the notion that birth out of wedlock is somehow predestined to produce bad people. There is no scientific validity to this notion, and it's a vacuous thought. How in the world anyone knows their paternal identity for sure without the DNA test, and how many people has done that? The whole discussion does not make sense.
It's one thing to use the term "Jaroj (Bastard)" to rebuke people, but - it's totally different when someone says that - people are bad because they were "Jaroj." If we accept this logic - then we also have to accept that - it is not the fault of those people that they are bad, because no one has a choice in his/her parental identity.
Also, I do not see the connection between the death-toll figures in the liberation war and corrupt people in Bangladesh. If I say lakh-lakh people died in the liberation war, it simply means – death-toll is enormous. Thirty thousand or 3 million is an enormous death-toll. Historical figures are always controversial, and never exact. No one should give it too much importance on this number.
You ask a Razakar about the death-toll in the liberation war; he will probably cite some number that is a lot less than 30,000. Also, there are millions of people in the world who believe – Holocaust never occurred. To them, death-toll in the Holocaust is zero, but to others it is in the millions. So, let it go.  Any number representing the enormous death-toll will be acceptable.
Please don't tell me corruption started from that 3 million number.

Mr Mannan,

Your endeavour to expose those "jaroj" or 'bastard' people in Bangladesh is admirable and I hope that you succeed. I am with you. But my request would be that whatever you say should be based on facts - pure and undiluted, not heresy or gossip. If you resort to massaging facts, however small, to make the case stronger, then people will reject the whole story and think that this story is one of "those".

A concrete example of "massaging facts" is Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's statement that 3 million people died in Bangladesh liberation war. Actual, impartial and evidence based account is between 30,000 and 40,000 deaths. When Sheikh Mujibur Rahman came back to Bangladesh from Pakistan in 1972, he was told by his party propagandists that 3 laks died, which was itself an exaggeration by about 10 times. Then Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at his interview with the foreign journalists stated that 3 million people died. Now Ministers, Prime Ministers etc all quote this figure and foreign journalists give a wry smile and think that these are the faces liars and cheats.
