Mr. Guha is a minority human rights activist. And it is common among the human rights (and for that matter for any rights activist) to highlight the sufferings of the victims by being a little bit emotional and thereby overlooking (to me that's O.K) the protests and condemnations by many other groups manned by Muslims. It is human nature that not to react and stay passive unless and until he is a real or potential victim. For example a Hindu who has been living in America and is leading a happy life can be self centered and will not necessarily join a particular group to condemn the atrocities on the Hindus in Bangladesh. But we all condemn all sorts of atrocities at least silently.
Both Malala and Satyarthi were Nobel Peace because of their activism. Malala herself was a victim. Purnima does not satisfy this criterion. One good candidate for Nobel in Peace was an Indian activist who was assassinated as he was vocal and active against the prescription and sales of various stones to be used for protection against ill fortunes (bad influences of stars).
Pakistan's political environment is too much messed up. Pakistanis celebrated Malala's winning of Nobel and it is unfortunate that the PM did not congratulate her. He did not, right? It does not mean that he is against women's education. He has simply struck a balance.
It will be very difficult if not impossible to find Mr. Cleans to fill the ministerial positions. I am not sure how much corrupted ALS was. Personally I don't care as desired Mr. Cleans are rarely found. I will judge him by his boldness with which he has recently tried to open the Pandora's box about Hajj. The proponents of 'true Islam' are trying to strip us of our freedom of speech.
Let me finish by mentioning an ad in which Mithun Chakrabarty is the only model. In the ad he uses a parody of Hindu mantra to promote some food items. In the parody he replaces the names of all the gods and goddesses with food items like mutton biriyani, jilipi, pasta, etc. Maybe some orthodox Hindus do not like the mishandling of their sacred mantra, but there has not been any protests so far as far as I know. I enjoy this ad.

If he has done anything wrong, the court of law would judge him, not the chorus of the mob or the slogans of the mullahs. If he is so corrupt and his corruption dates back to the previous government (run by the same prime minister), why his corruption had not been brought to the fore at that time or before this event? Was he kept in the present government as a senior minister totally shackled that he must submit unconditionally to the leader or else he would be exposed? How many ministers, politicians, bureaucrats are there in the government in such situations? (I guess most of them). The whole thing smells rotten, disgusting.- Anis Rahman

আমাদের অনুভুতি, মালালা ও পূর্নিমাদাউদ হায়দার, তসলিমা নাসরিন বা লতিফ সিদ্দিকী যখন ধর্মের বিরুদ্ধে কথা বলেন তখন বাংলাদেশের মুসলমানদের ধর্মীয় অনুভুতিতে আঘাত লাগে এবং এটা স্বাভাবিক। ফলশ্রুতিতে কেউ দেশান্তরী হন; কেউবা মন্ত্রীত্ব হারান, দাবী ওঠে ফাঁসীর, দৃষ্টান্তমূলক শাস্তির বা এমনকি ব্লাসফেমী আইন প্রবর্তনের! সদ্য দুর্গাপূজা সম্পন্ন হয়ে গেলো, পূজার আগে কয়েকশ মুর্ক্তি ভাঙ্গা হলো, মন্দিরে হামলা বা আগুন দেয়া হলো, কিন্তু হিন্দুদের ধর্মীয় অনুভুতিতে কোন আঘাত লাগলো না! এ এক অবাক কান্ড, একই দেশে একটি ধর্মীয় সম্প্রদায়ের ধর্মীয় অনুভুতি অত্যন্ত প্রখর, পক্ষান্তরে অন্য একটি সম্প্রদায়ের ধর্মীয় অনুভুতি একেবারেই নাই, অথবা ভোথা হয়ে গেছে। এজন্যেই হয়তো স্বাধীনতার পর থেকে বাংলাদেশের ইতিহাসে হাজার হাজার মন্দির-মুর্ক্তি ভাঙ্গা হলেও আজ পর্যন্ত একজন অপরাধীও শাস্তি পায়নি! এর কারণ হয়তো, অন্য ধর্মাবলম্বীদের জন্য শাসনের অনুভূতিও হারিয়ে গেছে।এবার ঢাকা ও দেশের অন্যত্র শান্তিপূর্ণভাবে দুর্গাপূজা সু-সম্পন্ন হয়েছে। ঈদুল আযহা ও দুর্গাপূজা প্রায় একই সময়ে পড়লেও কোনরকম অশান্তি ছাড়াই দু'টি উত্সব সম্পন্ন হওয়ায় প্রশাসন তৃপ্তির ঢেকুর তুলছেন। তবে এই শান্তি বজায় রাখতে পূজামণ্ডপে পুলিশকে সর্বচ্চো নিরাপত্তা ব্যবস্থা নিতে হয়েছে যার কোন প্রয়োজন ঈদের সময় হয়নি। আচ্ছা, পূজার সময় নিরাপত্তা লাগে কেন? পুলিশী নিরাপত্তা ছাড়া কি শান্তিপূর্ণ পূজা সম্ভব নয়? হয়তো সম্ভব, তবে সরকার রিস্ক নেবে কেন? বা হিন্দুরাই নিরাপত্তাহীনতায় ভুগবেন কেন? নিরাপত্তা ব্যবস্থা নেয়া ঠিকই আছে, তবে প্রশ্ন থেকেই যায়, নিরাপত্তা সব ধর্মীয় সম্প্রদায়ের জন্যে লাগে না কেন?খুশির খবর, মালালা শান্তিতে নোবেল পুরুস্কার পেয়েছে। ভারতের কৈলাস সত্যার্থীও একই পুরুস্কার পেয়েছেন। খবরে দেখলাম, মোদীর সাথে তার হাস্যোজ্জ্বল ছবি। একজন প্রশ্ন করলেন, নওয়াজ শরীফের সাথে মালালার এমন ছবি কি আশা করা যায়? ফেইসবুকে একজন লিখেছেন, পূর্নিমা শীলের ঘটনায় আমরাও কিন্তু ওই পুরুস্কারটি পেতে পারতাম! কেন পারলাম না? পূর্নিমার ঘটনা তো মালালার চেয়ে ন্যাক্কারজনক, যারজন্যে তার মাকে বলতে হয়েছে, 'বাবারা, আমার মেয়েটি ছোট, একজন একজন করে যাও।' আর একজন লিখেছেন, শেখ হাসিনা লন্ডনে মালালার সাথে দেখা করেছেন, কিন্তু নিজের ঘরের পূর্নিমার খোঁজ রাখেননি। শেষের কথাটি অবশ্য সত্য নয়; কারণ জননেত্রী পূর্নিমার খোঁজ রাখতেন। তবে রাষ্ট্রের কাছে পূর্নিমার কোন গুরুত্ব নাই। পূর্নিমা এখনো বিচার পায়নি। বাঁশখালীতে একই পরিবারের ১১জনকে পুড়িয়ে মারার বিচার হয়নি। ২০০১-এর পর তদন্ত রিপোর্ট থাকলেও একটি মামলাও হয়নি। মামলা না থাকলে, বিচার না হলে ঘটনা তো ঘটতেই থাকবে। এজন্যেই পূজায় পুলিশ প্রহরা লাগে, কারণ গত ৪৪বছরে মন্দির বা মুর্ক্তি ভাঙ্গার ঘটনার একটি বিচারও হয়নি। কোনদিন কি হবে? যেহেতু পূর্নিমা বা মালালার কথা এলো, তাই আমাদের দেশের বীরঙ্গনাদের কথাও আসে। মুক্তিযোদ্ধা সংসদ বীরঙ্গনাদের মুক্তিযোদ্ধা হিসাবে স্বীকৃতি দেয়ার যে সিদ্বান্ত নিয়েছে, দেরিতে হলেও তা অভিনন্দনযোগ্য, 'লেট বেটার দ্যান নেভার'।পাকিস্তানের আব্দুস সালাম নোবেল পেয়েছিলেন। প্রথম প্রথম সন্মান দেখালেও পাকিস্তান তাকে চরমভাবে হেনস্তা করেছে। কারণ নামটি মুসলমান হলেও 'পাকিস্তানের সংঞ্জায় তিনি অ-মুসলমান ছিলেন।' ধর্মের নামে এ অমানবিকতা পাকিস্তানে স্বাভাবিক, বাংলাদেশেও কি খুব অস্বাভাবিক? পাকিস্তান মালালকে সন্মান দেয়নি, বহির্বিশ্ব দিয়েছে। বাংলাদেশও পূর্ণিমাকে সন্মান দেয়নি। আমরা আসলে কাউকে সন্মান দিতে জানিইনা, তাই সন্মান পাইওনা! তাই বলছিলাম, সংখ্যালঘুর অনুভুতি তো নাই-ই, সংখ্যাগুরুরও কেবলমাত্র ধর্মীয় অনুভুতি ছাড়া বাদবাকি সব ধরনের অনুভুতি মরে গেছে। জাতি হিসাবে আমরা এখন অর্ধমৃত; তবে লতিফ সিদ্দীকিরা মাঝে মাঝে ঘা মেরে আমাদের বাঁচিয়ে তুলে। হয়তো কবি নজরুল এজন্যেই গেয়েছেন, 'আধমরাদের ঘা মেরে তুই বাঁচা।' যাকগে, লতিফ সিদ্দিকী কোলকাতা গেছেন। ১৯৭৫-এও তিনি কোলকাতা ছিলেন এবং সব অপকর্মই করেছেন। বেশ কিছুদিন আগে লিখেছিলাম, যে অপরাধে ইসমত কাদির গামা ও খালেদ খুররম আওয়ামী লীগে নেই, একই অপরাধ করেও লতিফ সিদ্দিকী বহাল তবিয়তে আওয়ামী লীগে ছিলেন কিভাবে? তিনি ছিলেন, এখন নাই। '---আমি নাই, ভাবতেও ব্যথায় ব্যথায় মন ভরে যায়-' লতিফ সিদ্দিকীর নিশ্চয়ই এখন এগানটি মনে পড়ছে! না, তিনি একেবারে নাই তা নয়, তিনি কলকাতায় আছেন। এই সেই কোলকাতা, যেখানে নুর হোসেনও আছেন। দাউদ হায়দার, তসলিমাও ছিলেন। মমতাও আছেন। দুই বাংলার ইসলামী জঙ্গিরাও আছে। আমাদের দেশের অনেক অপরাধীও আছে। এজন্যেই কোলকাতা কসমোপলিটান সিটি।পত্রিকায় দেখলাম, বহুকাল লন্ডনে থাকতেন এমন একজন নেতা বলেছেন যে, শেখ হাসিনার পূর্বপুরুষরা ইসলাম প্রচারের জন্যে বাংলাদেশে এসেছিলেন। ভালকথা, কিন্তু শেখ হাসিনা তো রাজনীতিবিদ, ধর্ম-প্রচারক নন, এসব কথার অর্থ কি? নিউজটির শেষে যতগুলো মন্তব্য দেখলাম তাতে মনে হয় এসব কথাবার্তা বুমেরাং হয়। ধর্মকে রাষ্ট্রে টেনে আনলে যে রাষ্ট্র ও ধর্ম দু'টোই ক্ষতিগ্রস্থ হয় তা-কি পাকিস্তানকে দেখেও আমরা শিখবো না? কথায় বলে, কাজী বিচার করেন আল্লাহ-র নামে; কিন্তু রায় দেন সম্রাটকে খুশি করার জন্যে (দারাশিকোর বিচার নিয়ে একথাটি প্রায়শ: বলা হয়)। আমাদের নেতারাও রাজনীতি করেন জনগনের (!) নিমিত্ত, কিন্তু কথা বলেন শেখ হাসিনা-কে তুষ্ট করার জন্যে? ঐসব নেতাদের অবশ্য হরপ্রসাদ শাস্ত্রীর 'তৈল' প্রবন্ধটি বারবার পড়া উচিত। যাকগে, শিক্ষিত মানুষগুলো যখন নির্লজ্জভাবে 'তোষামোদী' করেন তখন মনে হয় সত্যি সত্যিই আমাদের মানবিক অনুভুতিগুলো ক্রমশ: হারিয়ে যাচ্ছে।এটা জাতীয় অবক্ষয়। একবারে ছোটবেলায় আমাদের এক শিক্ষক জামান স্যার বলতেন, একজন মানুষকে মানুষ হতে হলে 'মান ও হুশ' দু'টোই থাকতে হয়; মনে হয়, আমরা দু'টোই হারাচ্ছি!শিতাংশু গুহ, কলাম লেখক।নিউইয়র্ক। ১৫ই অক্টোবর ২০১৪।
