Re: [mukto-mona] God does not need religion, religion needs God

What are Imaginary number? Numbers are metaphysical concept; different people represent them with different shapes, just like the concept of God; people represent God with different shapes as well. We all know the importance of numbers in our physical world. But, unfortunately, importance of God is hard to justify anymore. There is a saying like this - God becomes Ghost due to the human conspiracies. Practically, God has become monster under human conspiracies.

We need a lot of metaphysical concepts to explain reality, e.g., we need imaginary numbers to describe quantum mechanics of electron. That does not make imaginary number more real than unicorn.

This discussion is going towards absurdity. So, it will be better if we kill this thread now.

I fully understand why many people think mind is real. The problem is: a real thing does exist in reality or can be created/built with the raw materials. If a mind is real, we should be able create it.
We can't do it right now but it would be foolish for me to say that the idea is totally impossible in the future. So, stay tuned for the future development!

This should be the right approach (adopted by Prof. Das and Mr. Deeldar) to study mind as this is the scientific approach. Old fashioned and unscientific approach will take us nowhere except that it will simply help us in engaging fascinating but unproductive intellectual exercises. Number of neurons and their configuration and complexity in the brain explain many phenomena including memory and learning of our mental faculty. I will say that mind is real although not tangible as I will continue to use Metaphysics ( and hence the adjective metaphysical) as a distinct branch of philosophy that deals with subjects not within the jurisdiction of science proper particularly Physics.

Mind is rather an abstract metaphysical idea, which does not posses any physical structure except it is an embodiment of great numbers of neurons connecting to each other forming a giant network hub. A sane mind can become a cripple one with death of only few critical neurons in the temporal lobe.
So, metaphysically, we can say, it exists as long we have a fully functional connected hub in our brain. We can create some great products by using our mind. But then question arises whether a robot has a mind too? How much do we need to create a small miniature mind?

Your mind is not nonexistent. It lives in your temporal lobe. Belief in existence of soul and metaphysics would lead you to a labyrinth to be devoured by Minotaur. Ancient Egyptian belief placed mind and soul in heart. Spiritual experience grows from temporal lobe disorder. Epileptic fit is described as samadhi. Most prophets and preachers had this trait.

One of the materialistic thoughts is - something that does not exist physically does not exist at all. But, that's not always correct. There are entities which do not exist in the physical world, but exist in the meta-physical world. Our mind does not exist physically, but exists in the metaphysical space; it controls most of the things we do. Our consciousness is another superior trait in us that has no physical existence, but exists in the metaphysical space, and guides us to sort out good and bad. There are many such entities that exist only in the metaphysical space, and have practical implications in our lives.

Deeldar said his spirituality is in line with Poet RN Tagore. The existence of a spiritual-idol is present in most of Tagore's works. His spiritual idol as the creator of the universe.

Now, let's think about meditation. You will see it requires a focal-point of thought. During simple meditation routine, instructor will ask participants to concentrate on his/her breathing. Why is that? It is to concentrate on the breathing, which occupies the focal-spot of the thought, and help participants to concentrate. Meditation can take us to the gate of the spiritual world. But, once you are at the gate, then what? You need a superior tour guide to achieve something meaningful in the spiritual world. Tagore had spiritual idol, so does everybody. Otherwise, it will be simply unproductive meditation.
