Serajur Rahman? Who? If that man had an iota of intelligence, he would not have compared illiterate Khaleda with M. Gandhi. Does anybody see any parallel between these two people. One is a diehard communal person, who may not even know how democracy functions while the other one is revered all over the world for his humanity and sharp wit. When Mr. Haque posts such garbage, does he really endorse Serajur Rahman's writings?  Please do not embarrass ourselves with colluding personalities like Gandhi and Nerhrus with our half-idiots. They got long way to go. Thank you.

A thought came to my mind this morning, while watching Bangladeshi TV news, and hat was - why targets of every demonstration are mostly the private properties, such as buses, auto-rickshaws, CMGs, cars, shops, etc. May be I could understand the motive behind these sabotages if they were done as a part of implementing a forced Hartal; they are being done in most political rallies also.
What sort of democratic objective are being served by burning private properties? No one with a minimal respect for democratic rights of an individual could do such things. So many poor families are being affected by sabotages of each CMG and auto-rickshaw. I am sure, many of the perpetrators of these crimes belong to that class of people, yet have no such sense at all.   
The conclusion I have come up with is that – the goal of today's demonstrators is to fulfill the will of the political party - going to power by all means. Most of these people are ignorant about the spirit of democracy; democratic rights of individuals cannot come from attacking private properties.
While I was a student in the Dhaka University during '68 – '70, I have attended countless political meetings and rallies, but, never seen any such private property damages during political rallies and demonstrations. Is it BNP style spirit of democracy?

গণতন্ত্রের স্পৃহা মুছে ফেলা যাবে না

খালেদা জিয়াকে রাজধানীতে সভা - সমাবেশ করতে দেয়া হচ্ছে না । গাজীপুরে ক্ষমতাসীনদের
ন্যক্কারজনক আচরণকে এ দেশের মানুষ বরাবরই ছি ছি করবে । কিন্তু গোটা বাংলাদেশ যে
গণতন্ত্রের এবং খালেদা জিয়ার সাথে আছে , দেশের মানুষ তার প্রমাণ দিয়েছে ; প্রমাণ দিয়েছে
২৯ ডিসেম্বরেও । বিএনপিতে মন্ত্রিত্ব ও বিবৃতিসর্বস্ব , জেলভীতু এবং অনির্ভরযোগ্য কিছু নেতা
হয়তো আছেন । অতীতেও সে কথা আমরা বারবার বলেছি ।    কিন্তু বেগম জিয়াকে এ কথা
মনে রাখতে হবে , গান্ধীজীর স্বাধীনতা সংগ্রামেও অনেক বিশ্বাসঘাতক ছিল এবং ব্রিটিশ
সাম্রাজ্যবাদ লাখো নেতাকর্মীকে বন্দী করে জেলে পুরেছিল । শেষে যেন তিল ধারণের স্থানও
ছিল না কোনো কারাগারে । তবু লাখে লাখে , কোটি কোটি মানুষ এগিয়ে এসেছে গ্রেফতার
হতে , কারাবরণ করতে । ইংরেজের হাতে ধরা দিয়েই তারা ইংরেজকে পরাজিত করেছে ।
জয় হয়েছিল গান্ধীজীরই । ' বাপুজী ' ' বাপুজী ' বলে গান্ধীর চরণের ধুলো নিতে তখন ঠেলা
ঠেলি করেছিল বিশ্বাসঘাতকেরাও ।   
আমরা প্রার্থনা করব , খালেদা জিয়া চূড়ান্ত গণ - আন্দোলনের ডাক দেবেন ১৯৯০ সালের
মতো এবং গান্ধীজীর মতো । জনগণই তাদের প্রাণের দাবি গণতন্ত্র ছিনিয়ে আনবে অশুভ
শক্তির হাত থেকে । ২০১৫ সাল বাংলাদেশে গণতন্ত্রের পুনর্জাগরণের বছর হবে , এ যেন সবার
প্রার্থনা হয় । এ বছর বিজয়ের বছর , আনন্দের বছর আর শান্তির বছর হোক সবার জন্য ।
