Is my son such a thief that he has to flee?
Yelled Khaleda

Staff Correspondent

Former premier and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia went berserk and yelled at the top of her lungs asking whether her son was such a thief that he would have to flee the country, said former state minister for home affairs Lutfozzaman Babar during questioning by the Task Force for Interrogation (TFI).

Babar was recalling his experience in planning Tarique Rahman's supposed departure from the country to avoid the incarceration he is currently in.

"Before Tarique Rahman was arrested, we used to get information from different sources that he might get caught. So I, Mannan Bhuiyan, Falu and Qamrul held a secret meeting in Mannan's residence and decided that Tarique would be sent abroad for two or three years," Babar told the TFI.

He said they planned that Tarique would be brought back home with a hero's welcome if BNP would come back to power again.

"As everything got finalised Falu narrated the matter to Khaleda Zia using my name before he took her to Hawa Bhaban in the same evening. Listening to the plan, madam went ballistic and began shouting at the top of her lungs in her residence," Babar said.

"Arriving at Hawa Bhaban, she started yelling again asking where are the conspirators Mannan Bhuiyan and Babar? Is my son such a big thief that he will have to flee the country?" Babar quoted Khaleda as yelling.

Babar also told the interrogators that about a year or so ago Khaleda Zia called him in and told him that she had Tk 20 crore in different places which she wanted to keep with one Kamal. She also told him that the money would later be used during elections.

Sources claimed that Babar told the investigators that Khaleda wanted to know from him whether he knew any trustworthy people with whom the money could be kept safely for a year, and in reply Babar told her that finding such people would be a very tough task for him.

Babar also told the interrogators that when Khaleda raised the issue again on the next day when he went to meet her, he asked his brother to keep the money. His brother then got angry with him telling him not to get involved in such matters warning him that those kinds of activities would come back to haunt him one day. Babar said a day later he asked his brother whether he could help him as his 'madam' had given him the task trusting him.

According to the sources, Babar told the interrogators that some days before he asked Khaleda for an approval to open up a bank and then he sat with some people to work out a plan. However, they told Babar that banks require a big amount of investment and the money would be collected in the name of BNP, a portion of which would be given to Babar as his share.

Babar also said he whitened a large amount of money through his brother in the name of a company after his meeting with the aspiring bank owners. The former home ministry boss also said later he brought the matter to Khaleda's attention who introduced him to a man who later turned out to be the person who had arranged to hundi Tk 20 crore, a portion of which Babar used to invest in the banking business he was trying to embark on.

Babar said suddenly he came to know that the Tk 20 crore was part of the money that had been taken from Warid Telecom as a bribe.

Mujibur Rahman became the sole leader of the East Pakistan through the 1970's election. So, his power behind was democracy and election.

In 1970's election, Majibur Rahman pledged to the nation democracy, equality, justice and freedom.

In 1973's election, did he mention anything about BAKSL? What was his pledge to the nation?

The election pledges are the solemn promises leaders promised to the voter, when he or she begs for votes.

The fourth amendment, made on January 25, 1975, was regarded as one of the most controversial changes in the country's constitutional history as it marked the country's switch-over to one-party (BKSAL) rule and a presidential form of government.

I am wondering how a political leader who dreamed for our democracy, human rights and equal rights for all of the Bangladeshi citizens, turn into a dictator with in a very short period of time.

A modern country is established on four independent pillars: the Judicial Branch, Legislative Branch, Executive branch and a free press. On January 25, 1975, the ruling party destroys all of the pillars just for their personal gain rendering the people of Bangladeshi slaves of the ruling class in their own country.

Not a big issue though, yet I am somewhat confused about the snapshot and the caption under it.

We know Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was designated the President when the Bangladesh Government-in-Exile was formed on April 17, 1971 under the leadership of Prime Minister Tajuddin Ahmed. Syed Nazrul Islam was Vice-President and officiated as Acting President in absence of Mujib.

We also know after his return from Pakistan on January 10, 1972, Mujib relinquished the post of presidency and took over as the Prime Minister (in a Parliamentary system of government), making Justice Abu Syeed Chowdhury as the President. We see Justice Chowdhury in the picture. If Mujib was taking over as the president, what Justice Chowdhury was doing there? Or, it is the picture when he is relinquishing post of president?

Ironically, Mujib changed the system back to Presidential form on January 25, 1975 through Fourth Amendment. No debate was allowed, even though there were a few dissenting voices. We know the rest of the story...how the BAKSALi dictatorship started inviting Mujib's own tragic downfall within months!

Dear Farida Apa,
As-salamualaikum.
This was a snapshot of Mujib's legacy, not the whole movie. The movie of Mujib was a flop one that ended in tragedy for him, his family and for the new born nation that we take so much pride of.
. This snapshot of the event of assuming the presidency was another mistake by Sk. Mujib that lead to more grave ones down the road. It was like  "udey ese jude bosa" on the throne that he didn't really deserve.  I still vividly remember the people's love and hope after Mujib's return  which  was dashed in just few years.  Upon his return, people hoped he would become the undisputed leader of all and guide the nation from outside. But, Mujib   just because of  his bad choices , one after another
Now, as a nation , we need to learn from the past, correct our present to move to the future. Out actions, our pragmatic analysis  will again decide what kind of leaders we'll get who will guide to the future. If we don't take lessons from the past, our future will be bleak.
Thank You.

Late Zia and her wife Khaleda, son Tareq and supporter Muazzam Kazi,Mr. MD Goni, Abid Bahar, Mohiuddin Anwar, Rashed Anam they all are still safe guarding Pakistan. Pakistan never compensate us and by announcing deceptive genocide figure these Khaleda and her supporters are standing aside of Pakistan rather than Bangladesh and time to time these people talk about democracy and patriotism, it's so funny.

Zia was a lord Clive of Bangladesh, Zia killed more than 2500 freedom fighters including colonel Taher.

So Zia was a sector commander for 3 months then he got transferred.

From the beginning Zia Moshtaq all were acted against our independence.

Dear Bipul bhai,

This is my two cents about BDR massacre, you claimed that K Zia was the mastermind behind this massacre; I am not a crime investigator or journalist, if you have any evidence that K Zia was involved in BDR massacre please forward the facts.

It is become a fashion to AL, if you tell anything against their misdeed; they will tell you that you are protecting the war criminal.

It is absolutely right BDR massacres destroyed the moral of our beloved national army. Fifty nine sincere and highly professional officers of the Army were brutally killed in short period of time. I would like to mention here that in our liberation war fifty three army officers were killed.

Every body knows that if they had committed any wrong doing, they have had to pay. We all know that to get away with wrong doing, you had had to belong to AL.

As a general folks we have lot of question about Pilkhana Massacre:

1.    Who were the masterminds behind this genocide?
2.    Why sixty five BDR soldiers were killed in government custody?
3.    Is there any link between these killed soldiers and the mastermind behind this genocide?
4.    Can this soldier be the witness against the perpetrator of this genocide?
5.    Why all of the eye witness accounts were not preserved for accurately pin point the perpetrator?
6.      This crisis demands that the truth should be unearthed, no matter how bitter it is. Questions needs to be answered, especially, the motives and patrons of the killings which must not overlook the escape mechanism, which was activated, to allow the mutineers to escape.
7.      There are, lot of mysteries related to this mutiny, which must be addressed sooner or later, the prime one being the escape of the mutineers. People are asking how the mutineers managed to escape and who made it possible? Why the whole of BDR was kept in complete darkness on February 26/27 night.
8.      This was the first time in the history of Bangladesh that corruption was used as a cover to massacre many people in such a short time. But fact is that those criminals have killed a group of honest, sincere and highly professional officers of the Army.
9.      Questions are being asked and will be asked if the right answers are not found.

Khaleda Nizami Saka and ISI conspiracy was BDR mutiny, if BDR mutiny was succeeded then Saka or Nizami wouldn't have to face today's situation.

This is what Khaleda Tareq and killer Zia played with our country around 2 decades.

But NO more...

Do you know the distance between Sylhet and Hobigong?
In 2004, Sylhet Mayor A A Chowdhury was a ward commissioner in Sylhet city corporation , he has nothing to do with murder of Mr. Kibria, he is the victim of political vendetta of
Hasina.
Mr. Kibria is a national leader, Mr Arif is a local leader, they are not from same constituency, not even from same district.
What is the vested interest of Mr. Arif to kill
Mr. Kibria.

The nation and we like to see justice for Mr. Kibria murder.
