Perhaps we sometime talk too much defending liberalism and
secularism. I appreciate Mr. Mustafizur Rahman's points of view on
the subject.
Everybody customarily subjects fatwa of Muslim clerics to criticism.
Like other clerics, Muslim clerics are also sometime right and
sometime wrong. All clerics get good learning in the language of
their respective religion and therefore, their language and style
seem to be quite learned. But generally the clerics are not well
educated in modern science, sociology, technology and literature. As
such, sometimes, they pass opinions, not logical and scientific.
Of the "immoral TV programmes" let us take the example of India. In
the early and mid 20th century kissing was not even imagined in the
Indian movies or TVs. Now it is taking place casually. May be after
some time it will be often shown. Very likely people will start
kissing publicly in India as in some Western societies. In some of
the Western societies same sex marriage and, therefore, same sex
kissing has been legalized. I do not want to go further which is
coming up. But it is very likely and that situation of mess is
inevitable.
Where to draw the line of morality? Here come the religious moral
values and clashes between the scales of moral values. Unlike the
Christians and Muslims, display of coitus position of erected penis
and vagina is not against the moral values of many of the Hindus
since that is the icon of their religious values (vide worshipping
of Shiva Linga).
What I feel is that the world of Nations (say through the United
Nations) should bring a standard to draw the line of morality.
Otherwise, as I have indicated above the kissing and display of
coitus position of erected penis and vagina will further "progress",
as the social and cultural change in India I pointed above, a
situation more embarrassing may become a part of our life style.
Let us hope for the best.
