Digital Bangladesh and people's mentality

The prime minister, Sheikh Hasina, has recently commented that the key obstacle to a Digital Bangladesh was the mentality of the people (New Age, November 12). This is an absurd claim and borders on the delusional. We might ask how many members of her own political party can claim to be IT literate. And while she turns a blind eye to corruption, extortion and mayhem perpetrated by her own party members it is really obscene to question the ability of the people to embrace a Digital Bangladesh. The number one obstacle to a more enlightened and peaceful Bangladesh, with or without proper high speed broadband, is our political leadership.
