[mukto-mona] BNP and militant outfit Hizb-ut Tahrir merged together

After listening BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia speaks at a grand rally in port city Chittagong  day before yesterday, one may wonder if BNP has taken banned Islamist militant outfit Hizb-ut Tahrir into their political alliance to harden their oust government movement.

Hours before Khaleda delivered her speech at Polo Ground, banned Islamist militant outfit Hizb-ut Tahrir circulated leaflet alleging that government is abducting army personal. The leaflets delivered at media outlet also asked the army to come forward to oust the ruling Awami League-led government.

Hours after the militant outfit Hizb-ut Tahrir leaflet circulation Khaleda Zia in her speech alleged government of abducting army personal with almost same word to word language as Hizb-ut Tahrir only coming short of calling army to oust government as Tahrir did.

Opposition will go hard line to press their demand is expected but two times prime minister (or three) will speak the same line as outlawed Hizb-ut Tahrir is not what nation expects.

Suspicion rises if there were any collaboration between BNP and militant outfit Hizb-ut Tahrir to make CTG rally successful or to empower oust government movement. Whether BNP has gone back to its past when BNP power house Tarek Zia's Hawa Bhobon consolidated with outlaw Bangla Bhai and his terrorist organization.

These questions come in a time when BNP also taken hard line demanding release of all war criminals immediately and put an end to war crime tribunals.  Yesterday's mammoth gathering where thousands of placard were carried with war criminal Nizami, Mujahid, Kamruzzaman Salauddin picture demanding their release but much less number carrying BNP alliance demand.

Like Chittagong, earlier meetings in commilla and Feni were flooded with Jamaati workers carrying placards and banners demanding alleged war criminals freedom. It looked like more of a Jamaat showdown rather than Khaleda Zia's BNP. Many local BNP and its student wing leaders and workers did not like this and battled with lethal weapons to oust Jamaat from its high-flying position in the venue as a result meeting venue become completely empty until they return hours after the fight stops.

To retain its national and international posture as a key player in upholding democracy in Bangladesh, BNP must shun from patronizing militant outfit Hizb-ut Tahrir as they did Bangla Bhai while in power. Association with Bangla Bhai's terrorist outfit with Hawa Bhobon was talk of the country and the prime reason why people rejected them in last poll.

Khaleda Zia's speech at Chittagong is a grim reminder that BNP will forge unity with anyone even outlawed outfit Hizb-ut Tahrir or worse terrorist organization to oust AL government in power. BNP may use these peewee but engaged outfits to disrupt the daily national life in coming days. Hope BNP will not forget its lesson in power and stay away from harboring national and international militant organization to harm secular peaceful democratic fabric of Bangladesh.

Chittagong, Jan 9 (bdnews24.com) — BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia has alleged that the government is 'abducting' army personnel, apart from opposition activists, as a part of its policy of oppression. "The government is eliminating opposition's leaders and activists not only through oppression but also through abductions and secret killings. Not only this, even army personnel are being abducted," she told a rally at the port city's Polo Ground at the close of her two-day Chittagong road march. Although her remarks came at the rally in the afternoon, banned Islamist militant outfit Hizb-ut Tahrir Bangladesh had in the morning sent leaflets in sealed envelopes to several local daily newspaper offices reading the same allegation attributed to Khaleda. The leaflets also asked the army to come forward to oust the ruling Awami League-led government. Khaleda in her allegation also said that the government is also conspiring to destroy the army. "Conspiracy is being hatched to destroy the army just like BDR (now Border Guard Bangladesh - BGB). In the last three years, the government has failed to finish the trial of killers of 57 army officials in the BDR headquarters." "Many army officials were fired. Their goal is to create a puppet army by destroying ours," she said. Over 70 people, 57 of them army officers deputed to the border force, were killed in a mutiny at the capital's Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) headquarters at Pilkhana on Feb 25-26, 2009. Rebellion also spread to BDR outposts in several districts in the country. In Sunday's rally, Khaleda also criticised the present government by recounting its 'failures' over the last three years during her 45-minute speech.
