It may be possible - maybe - in a local election. Are you comparing a general election to a local election?
This is Bangladesh. No one believes a fair election is possible under AL and BNP. Because both parties would cheat to keep out the other. And they would do it to protect their version of Bongu democracy.
Even if AL believed, on all the evidence it had, that it would win a fair election - it still would not take the risk of unwelcome results..
Same with BNP.
