Sunil was taking advantage of the situation - sounds quite plausible. However, I still think it was wrong for Taslima to relate the banning of her book "Dwikhondito" with Sunil's womanizing character. The book banning probably had nothing to do with anyone's personal character or influence in India; it was done to appease religious stupidity and dishonesty, which is a much bigger issue than any individual.

 

BTW: Anyone knows specifically which parts of the book caused the ban in India?

We, all know Taslima is not a great writer but she knows how to sell her writings. We do not know what really happened between them in the past? I am sure Taslima did not save any of her blue dresses as evidence to get our best living legend (sarcasm!). Still, I can understand why she did not come forward earlier. When Islamic 'tupis' were demanding Taslima's head, how could she go against her patron and savior? Sunil was probably taking advantages of her situation. Obviously, the lady stayed silent about the abuse? That happened to many women in the past.-SD

When a man touches a woman inappropriately in a private setting, it is hard to prove. However, I still think Taslima should have taken some action at the time of the occurrence, as opposed to talking about it publicly now. If she did not like the touch, she should have made it clear to Sunil at that time, and warned him about it then. She could have tried to trap him later with evidences that could be produced before a judge.

 

I am not sure what Taslima is trying to get out of mixing Sunil's women harassing habit with the banning of her book. By doing this, I think she made herself cheap, and trivialized the banning of her important book. While I see a remarkable rebel and revolutionary in Taslima, I think she is neither a very high quality author nor a highly respectable personality.

 

Unfortunately, the world does not have many level-headed people who have a high degree of conviction for doing the right things.

We are all products of a patriarchal society. Every thing of us including our religions are biased. I thought I would not make any comment on the Taslima-Sunil issue. But noticing that almost everybody is blaming Taslima, I would request the muktomonas to get rid of his or her prejudice before accusing Taslima flatly. This is outrageous. Sunil is no god, Taslima is no goddess either. Taslima is internationally more renowned than Sunil. She is uncompromising, Sunil is not. I would ask every male person to be honest and tell his conscience if he has ever availed himself of the opportunity of sexually abusing or molesting a less privileged woman whosoever she might be. Our society is full of such crimes.
