[mukto-mona] Re: Padma Bridge-Reasons for the Withdrawal Request by the Bangladesh Gove rnment

"Let us all wait for future, especially outcome of the criminal case which is due for trial in April 2013 and WB's further step (perhaps, release of the names who involved with alleged corruption) as we all know "time will tell" the facts and what happened."

As a "transparent" organization, WB has the duty to disclose the involved names so that we can prosecute and punish those culprits at home. The trial has not started yet in Canada and we do not even know when it will be concluded. If WB got the goods, lets have it disclosed in public. I am sure Awami League supporters and their antagonists are not really unfamiliar with this age-old corruption business. We do not even know what specific demands were not met? Why not have a transparent discussion right now?

I am not even sure why WB needs to have high powered lawyers to kill a minnow? It got the money and if it feels Bangladesh has not met the criteria, it has all the rights to stop the funding. This was a good loan but the country can survive without this funding.
Thanks

It is easily understood the frustrations and outcries of the workers and supporters of Bangladesh Awami League at home and abroad for not getting World Bank's (WB) loans the way they wanted. As world now knows, WB has done the right thing for asking Bangladesh government to meet certain conditions once it found involvement of corruptions by not only ministers and high officials but also "top" person of the government.

No single sensible citizen of this world will be fooled with the explanations or criticisms of Bangladesh government and her worldwide workers and supporters. Bangladesh government is counseled by the lawyers of her own nation and/or merely a few hired foreign law firms while World Bank is advised by scholarly, efficient and highly reputed lawyers of more than hundred countries and hundreds of law firms, from developed to under developed (poor) nations.

World Bank formed an investigative team composed of world famous lawyers headed by Hon. Luis Moreno Ocampo, who was also Chief Prosecutor of the International Court of Justice to prosecute war crimes. Contrary to this, Bangladesh government's legal team was headed by Attorney General Mahbubey Alam who once commented that her Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was more eligible to get Nobel Prize than Dr. Mohammed Yunus without knowing the criteria of process and selection of Nobel Prize winners.

Hon. Ocampo and his team members know how to lead investigations of an international nature and when a criminal case is pending in a Canadian court on the same issue. They know very well what evidence can be delivered to the Bangladesh government to investigate the bribery scam. It is the irresponsibility of Bangladesh government to fulfill the conditions if her nation wants loans from World Bank. Instead of complying with the WB's conditions for the interest of 160 million people, Sheik Hasina led government chose to withdraw request for loan.

It is no doubt or hiding fact any more that BD government took the decision to save it's "top" leader and her family members from scandal, perhaps from prosecution, arrest and so on...

Let us all wait for future, especially outcome of the criminal case which is due for trial in April 2013 and WB's further step (perhaps, release of the names who involved with alleged corruption) as we all know "time will tell" the facts and what happened.

Thanks,

Anis Ahmed

I am sure some party affiliated characters may have tried to steal cookies from cookie-jar before the cookies were to be delivered to Bangladesh. If World Bank knows the culprits and has relevant evidences against these characters, it should come forward and disclose the names in public. What WB is afraid of? Liability? Of what?

I do not think it is right approach from WB to demand Bangladesh to go after certain people then Bank says that is not enough. WB can't be a prosecutor and judge at the same time. Alternatively, WB should have his own Bangladeshi team and carry out the work under its supervision. I do not think Bangladeshis or its current government would have anything against that proposal. WB is not really a trouble free organization either. It will deprive some Bangladeshi criminals to benefit from the project, but make no mistake that the money will be enriching some other lucky bastards. The game is not new and I am sure people are aware of that fact. It is the huge sum of money that attracts many vultures for a good cut.

Dear Brother Rezaul Karim:

Many thanks for your strong response (below mentioned) on behalf of the 160 million innocent people of Bangladesh to the supporters who protects criminals as alleged by the World Bank. Bangladesh and her innocent people not only lost loans for Padma Bridge from WB, ADB, JICA, and GSP privilege from the US government but will also continue loosing many other benefits from western and developed nations due to Awami League led government's bias, favoritism, anti-human rights, inhuman, vindictive and greedy policies.

I can guarantee you, In Sha Allah, many of the Padma Bridge scam facts will be revealed from the trial of the criminal case in Canadian court very soon. The case is set for trial in April, 2013.

Thanks,

Anis Ahmed

Nakib Bhai,

This  is for your kind dissemination in our google group.

Mr. Ahmed, a Bangladeshi American who is the Commissioner of Maryland received a United States Congressional Certificate for his leadership role, distinguished services and contributions, in 2012.

As stated by Mr. Anis Ahmed, these are some of the facts behind Bangladesh, losing it's duty-free entry of certain products in the US market (GSP).

The GOB is responsible and because of their arrogance, Bangladesh will be suffering. One day they will have to answer for all their misdeeds, insa Allah. Some people in the USA, apparently have been trying to save this regime and their interest and not the  people of Bangladesh.

Thanks.

~ Karim

Dear Readers:

Bangladesh Awami League led government took decision to
withdraw request from World Bank aid on the following reasons:

First, to save former minister Abul Hossain from criminal prosecutions in Bangladesh on the World Bank's alleged bribery scam.

Secondly, to save Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's family members (Sajeeb Wajed Joy, Saima Putul and her husband) from ongoing investigations in Canada and USA for their involvements in Padma Bridge bribery scam. A date is set in a Canadian Court for trial (in April) on Padma Bridge scam against Montreal based SNC-Lavalin Company. Sources tell that Sheikh Hasina's family members were involved in the monetary transactions with the SNC-Lavalin company.

Third, to save Sheikh Hasina who was knowingly involved in the scandal through Abul Hossain. Also, she was fully aware of her family member's involvements in the monetary transactions of the bribery scam.

Finally, Bangladesh Government withdrew the request with assumption that Sheikh Hasina and her family will no longer be parties to the investigation in the USA and criminal proceedings in Canada.

Note: Bangladesh government took this decision to save Sheikh Hasina and her family members at the cost of 160 million people's unwanted sufferings.

With regards,

Anis Ahmed
