I also think that only the weak demands banning others' ideas, because he/she does not have the moral, intellectual and/or political strength to face the ideas.
The demand of banning Jamat/Sibir is due to the intellectual and moral bankruptcy of the so-called civil society and of the so-called secular politicians.
What Bangladesh needs are intellectual and political forces that are truly rational. These forces need to have the guts of challenging the non-senses of the superstitions and hatred based upon religions.
Jamat should have the right to be a political party. They, however, should not have the right to force their ideas/ways on people via lawless and violent means. However, that should apply to all political parties. No party should force their ideas/ways on the country via lawless and violent means.
It is strange that, even after clear-cut video footage of the murder of Bishwajit Das in the newspapers, Bangladesh has not yet punished the criminals! The criminals should have already faced the death penalty or imprisonment for life even if the victim were not a Hindu named Bishwajit who was just trying to go to his work. Even if the victim were a Jamat activist demonstrating on the street, or trying to block a road, that would not lessen the gravity of the gruesome murder. What is Bangladesh waiting for?
It is strange that the big political forces in Bangladesh are doing practically nothing about the epidemic of gang-rapes in Bangladesh!
Doesn't the country need a lot more responsible and civilized minds in the intellectual and political sphere?
BTW: When Mr. Hannan says, "Only weak demand ban of others as they are unable to face them politically." does he mean it only on behalf of Jamat, or in general with complete honesty?
