RE: [mukto-mona] জামাতের বিরুদ্ধে অর্থনৈতিক অবরোধ গড়ে তোলো !!

Thank you, Hannan-Bhai. Things are complicated now, to say the least. I wish Bangla-spring had come earlier under different circumstances. The judicial/political nightmare that brought this spring is worrisome.

The case against Kader Mollah has been proven in the court of law. Kader Mollah flashed the universal victory sign (V) after the verdict; he won. I think he is right; life-sentence in a genocidal war crime case is not bad. But, instead of thanking the judges and showing some remorse for his actions, he cursed at them, go figure! With my simplistic view of the world, I don't understand why some people do strange things with their lives.

Stay well,

Regards,

Jiten Roy

Respected brother Jiten Roy sahib,

Best regards and Salam.I generally agree with you. But I inform you that BNP and Jamat are nationalist and pro-Islamic forces, none of them have any reservation about independence of Bangladesh now.

As for trial they accept a fair trial but things are neither the tribunal is governed by an adequate act nor the judges are independent and neutral. Now they are under serious intimidation. Please see below what happened in Parliament yesterday.

Your probably older brother '

Shah Abdul Hannan

PM hails Shahbagh youths; vows to help keep their oath; hopes to see people ' s expectation met in war crimes verdict : This is influencing Judicial process

Daily Star and other papers have reported that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday thanked the youths for raising voice against the 1971 war criminals, and said her government would translate into action the oath thousands of protesters took at the Shahbagh grand rally on Friday. Speaking in parliament, Hasina said the tribunals would deliver judgments according to the law, but they should consider the people ' s expectations while giving verdicts on war crimes cases."I am making this call to them [the judges] through parliament," said Hasina, also the leader of the House. The prime minister expressed solidarity with the six-point demand that the Shahbagh protesters submitted to the Speaker yesterday afternoon. Speaker Abdul Hamid said he forwarded the charter of demands to the premier, and the law and home ministers for taking necessary steps. He said the House expressed solidarity with the demonstrations at Shahbagh and elsewhere demanding capital punishment to war criminals.

Participating in a nearly three-hour discussion, Hasina vowed to make sure that the war criminals are tried."I heard them take the oath, and its every word is justified. We will do whatever is necessary to honour their oath. It is our commitment," she said. At Friday ' s grand rally, thousands of people took an oath that they will continue their movement until capital punishment is handed down on the members of Razakar and Al-Badr, who committed crimes against humanity like genocide and rape in 1971.A group representing the protesters submitted to the Speaker the six-point demand that includes death penalty for Jamaat leader Abdul Quader Mollah and all war criminals, revoking state power to grant general amnesty to the persons convicted by the tribunals, amending the law to provide scope for appeal against inadequate punishment and imposing a ban on Jamaat and religion-based politics. The prime minister said her government would take steps to close loopholes in the related law if there is any. "We all should create an atmosphere conducive for holding a fair trial of war criminals and implementation of the verdicts." Hasina lauded the youths for staging unprecedented demonstrations in Shahbagh and elsewhere in the country, and said the Shahbagh intersection should be named "swadhinatar torun projonmo square".

Unfortunately we can not agree with the Prime Minister. Her speech will influence the judicial process and the judges. This never happens in a democracy. How can she agree with all the points of the demonstrators of Shah bagh when the demands include banning of Islamic parties, closing Islamic institutions, and hanging of all accused irrespective of evidence available? We expected much more restraint from the PM

The whole thing is a mess, Hannan-Saheb. I am sorry to see such a political mess in Bangladesh . Unfortunately, I cannot blame Awami-League for this mess. All political parties should have started fresh political season after the independence; unfortunately that did not happen. Those who opposed the independence continued opposition. Such situation led to many unwanted political blunders and disasters right after the independence. Situation was no better than the post independence situations in Pakistan after 1947. Pakistan submerged into dictatorial military rule very quickly after independence, and still there is no viable democracy. Bangladesh is not too different from Pakistan now. It's a political mess. Who do I blame for this? I can't blame Awami-League. They seem to be with the people of Bangladesh , as far as politics is concerned. BNP/Jamat is riding against the tide ever since independence.

There are two types of offenses, 1) opposing the independence, and 2) direct participation in genocide. As I said before, the first offense is justifiable mistake, but the second offense needs to be brought to justice.

The genocide in Bangladesh was a mission to destroy not only pro-liberation supporters, but also was a mission to destroy the Bangalee-nationalism. The latter mission led to the targeted killings of so many great scholars, leaders, and intellectuals, just before the surrender. I am having trouble to justify how a Bangalee, no matter pro- or anti- independence, could sign up for the goal to destroy Bangalee-nationalism, especially, knowing full well that Pakistani-army was about to surrender in a few days. Those who did so knowingly are no ordinary Bangalee; they even continued that mission after the independence also. Should they be forgiven even though they are not asking for it? You be the judge.

Dr Manik sahib,

Assalamu Alaikum. These are fascistic demands which means trying to achieve things by force and arbitrary application of law. Manik sahib, you should write for a yes or no vote on neutral Government Issue.

Taking away any fundamental or human rights are never an issue of referendum.
