I see everyday on TV what's happening on the street during the Hortal; I see live actions of those so-called Hortal-enforcers. I understand the goal of Hortal. We have secured several appointments for meetings with various government and non-government officials in DC to disseminate documents and exchange information regarding the onset of anarchism and communalism by the BNP/Jamat. I will keep you all posted on that. Make no mistake - BNP/Jamat party is anti-Bangladesh/Minority from the core. It is not displaying any concern for the national interest. They seem to be hell-bent on destroying Bangladeshi economy. In my view, they have forfeited their democratic right to exist as political parties on the soil of Bangladesh. Jamat is a political parasite of BNP. I urge the Election Commission to revoke BNP/Jamat registrations as political parties in Bangladesh. I live here, in Bangladesh, and it is getting pretty miserable! Jiten Roy as a concerned ex-pat Bangladeshi living abroad should sympathize with the Police who is trying to protect the community. The Islamists are on a rampage destroying the places of worship of non-Muslims without any provocation of any communal riot. This deeply hurt the Hindu, Chakma, Buddhist and other community members and damaged the sense of unity that was generated by the Shahbagh movement. A cadre of barbarians goes on the street with bamboo goads, iron rods, machetes, and even guns, to force the public from going about their business. They do it to protest something, and to force the public to be on their side. It is not a civilized call to ask the public to support their cause. It is called hartal in Bangladesh. The police force is either too small and weak, or unwilling to enforce civility. They are worthless at best for the public, who hardly gets a chance to freely support the hartal by staying home, or to freely oppose it by going about their business.

Well, I am babbling about some practical issues, namely call for a strike and the process by which it is realized. While call for a strike is a democratic right, making it successful through anarchism is not. So, the responsible party for causing the violence should be liable for all damages. They must compensate all damages. If they are unable to do so, revoke the registration and ban that party from politics forever through the jurisdiction of the election commission. If this can be done – civility will come to politics, otherwise it will be always a political jungle. Can this be done? Not at all, now you know, why we are poor. I may be babbling again. Any party can make a strike successful through force and intimidation. Under that situation, no one will ever know how much public support was there for the cause. Then, what's the point of a strike? The goal is to sustain maximum damage to the economy, and enhance public sufferings. Now, you may ask - why so many people still support such political party. Also, look who are dying for such silly causes? Have you ever seen any of those big bosses getting hurt in any of the violence? Never, only stupid losers die for these silly causes. Hartal is a disgusting, outmoded means of protest. Back in the Colonial days it used to hurt the Govt. But nowadays it only hurts the small people. We, citizens are urging other citizens not respond to Jamaat hartal --- this aint an easy thing to do -- people will be required to take enormous risks by keeping stores open, transportation going, etc. The Transport Owners' Union head said he would keep his buses running. সোমবার, ৪ মার্চ ২০১৩, ২০ ফাল্গুন ১৪১৯ রাজধানীতে হরতাল প্রত্যাখ্যান, রাস্তায় প্রতিরোধ মিছিল জনকণ্ঠ রিপোর্ট ॥ জামায়াত আহূত টানা দুইদিনব্যাপী হরতালের প্রথমদিনেই সমুচিত জবাব দিয়েছে রাজধানীবাসী। দেশজুড়ে সাম্প্রদায়িক দাঙ্গা সৃষ্টিকারী ও যুদ্ধাপরাধের দায়ে অভিযুক্ত এই সন্ত্রাসী সংগঠন জামায়াত-শিবিরের ডাকা বিগত হরতালগুলোর ন্যায় এবারও ঘৃণাভরে প্রত্যাখ্যান করল নগরবাসী। শুধু প্রত্যাখ্যানই নয়, রাজধানীতে রবিবারের হরতাল প্রতিরোধে রাজপথে জনতা দিনভর প্রতিরোধ কর্মসূচীও পালন করে। একদিকে স্বতঃস্ফূর্ত জনতার প্রতিরোধ, অন্যদিকে আইনশৃঙ্খলা বাহিনীর কঠোর ও সতর্ক অবস্থানের পাশাপাশি হরতালবিরোধী বিভিন্ন রাজনৈতিক অঙ্গ-সংগঠনের বিক্ষোভ মিছিল ও উত্তপ্ত সেøাগানে হরতাল সমর্থক জামায়াত-শিবির রবিবারে রাস্তায়ই নামতে পারেনি।
এছাড়া হরতাল প্রতিরোধের আগে থেকেই যার যার অবস্থান থেকে বিভিন্ন প্রাতিষ্ঠানিক সিদ্ধান্ত নেয়া হয়। ফলে নিরুত্তাপ হরতালের কারণে এদিন রাজধানীর জনজীবন ছিল সপ্তাহের অন্যান্য দিনের মতোই সম্পূর্ণ স্বাভাবিক। রাজধানীর প্রতিটি এলাকার সরকারী-বেসরকারী অফিস-আদালত, শিক্ষাপ্রতিষ্ঠান, ব্যাংক-বীমাসহ সব ধরনের ব্যবসা প্রতিষ্ঠানই খোলা রাখা হয়। প্রতিষ্ঠানের কর্মজীবী মানুষ যথাসময়ে কর্মস্থলে এসে হাজির হয়। দাফতরিক কর্মকা-ও চলে স্বাভাবিক নিয়মেই। সব ধরনের যানবাহন চলাচল ছিল স্বাভাবিক। এদিন নগরীর ফার্মগেট, পুরানা পল্টন, মগবাজার, মালিবাগ, মৌচাক, সায়েদাবাদ, মহাখালী, নিউমার্কেট ও ধানম-ি এলাকায় প্রায় সময়ই চিরাচরিত জ্যামের দৃশ্য পরিলক্ষিত হয়েছে। তবে তুলনামূলক প্রাইভেটকারের চলাচল ছিল কিছুটা কম।
এছাড়া সকাল-সন্ধ্যা হরতাল চলাকালে জামায়াত-শিবির কোথাও সংগঠিত হতে না পারলেও লাগাতার দুই দিনের হরতালের প্রথমদিনে রবিবার কয়েকটি স্থানে ঝটিকা মিছিল ও বিক্ষিপ্ত বোমাবাজির মধ্য দিয়ে শেষ হয়েছে। পুলিশ এসব ঘটনায় প্রায় ২০ জনকে আটক করেছে। রাজধানীর কয়েকটি জায়গায় চোরাগোপ্তার মতোই ককটেল বিস্ফোরণ ঘটিয়ে পালিয়ে যায়। আবার দু'একটি জায়গায় টায়ার জ্বালিয়ে রাস্তা অবরোধ করার চেষ্টা করে। তবে পুলিশ আসা মাত্রই ওরা পালাতে প্রাণান্ত ছোটাছুটি করে। অবশ্য এ সময় কয়েকটি বাসও ভাংচুরের ঘটনাও ঘটে।
কমলাপুর রেলস্টেশন থেকে সকালে নির্ধারিত সময়েই সব ট্রেন যাওয়া আসা করেছে বলে স্টেশন মাস্টার সাখাওয়াত হোসেন জানিয়েছেন। তিনি জানান, লাইনের ঝুঁকিপূর্ণ ও গুরুত্বপূর্ণ স্থাপনগুলোতে 'লাইন পাহারা' বাড়ানো হয়েছে। প্রতিটি গাড়িতে রেল পুলিশের সংখ্যা ১২ জন থেকে বাড়িয়ে ১৫ জন করা হয়েছে। সকালে কমলাপুর থেকে নির্ধারিত সব ট্রেনই সময়মতো ছেড়ে গেছে বলে স্টেশন মাস্টার জানান।
সায়েদাবাদ থেকেও দূরপাল্লার বাস ছেড়ে গেছে বলে টিকেট কাউন্টার থেকে জানানো হয়। এদিকে রাজধানীর সদরঘাট থেকে বিভিন্ন রুটে লঞ্চ ছেড়ে গেছে বলে জানান দায়িত্বরতরা। তবে হরতালের কারণে যাত্রী কম হওয়ায় অন্যদিনের তুলনায় কম লঞ্চ ছাড়া হয় বলে জানান তারা। সরেজমিন নগরীর যাত্রবাড়ী, সায়েদাবাদ, কমলাপুর, গুলিস্তান, সদরঘাট এলাকায় যানচলাচল ছিল স্বাভাবিক। ফার্মগেট, মহাখালী, মগবাজার, মৎস্যভবন, শাহজাহানপুর, রামপুরা, মালিবাগ এলাকায়ও যানবাহনের স্বাভাবিক চলাচল পরিলক্ষিত হয়েছে। স্থানীয়, আওয়ামী লীগ, যুবলীগ, স্বেচ্ছাসেবক লীগ ও ছাত্রলীগ নেতাকর্মীরা হরতালবিরোধী মিছিল বের করে এসব এলাকায়। জনগণের জানমালের নিরাপত্তার স্বার্থে এসব এলাকায় পুলিশ র্যাব, ও বিজিবি সদস্যদের অব্যাহত টহল দিতে দেখা যায়। এছাড়া বিভিন্ন মোড়ে মোড়ে আইনশৃঙ্খলা বাহিনীর সদস্যরা অবস্থান নেয়। জগন্নাথ বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় এলাকাও ছিল শান্ত। কোন পরীক্ষা অনুষ্ঠিত না হলেও বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের বিভিন্ন বিভাগ একাডেমিক কার্যক্রম চলে।
ভোরে জগন্নাথ বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় এলাকায় মিছিল করে জামায়াত-শিবির কর্মীরা। এছাড়া সকাল ৮টার দিকে বাড্ডা এলাকায় কয়েক হরতাল সমর্থক কয়েকটি গাড়ি ভাংচুর করে। এ সময় পুলিশ খবর পেয়ে ঘটনাস্থলে ছুটে আসার আগেই পালিয়ে যায় জামায়াত-শিবির। এছাড়া যাত্রাবাড়ীতেও হরতালকারীরা সকালে বাস ভাংচুর করেছে বলে জানা গেছে। এ সময় তারা ককটেল বিস্ফোরণ ঘটিয়ে আতঙ্ক সৃষ্টির চেষ্টা চালায়। পুলিশ ঘটনাস্থল থেকে তিনজনকে আটক করেছে। সকাল ৭টায় রায়েরবাগ সাদ্দাম মার্কেটের সামনে জামায়াত-শিবির মিছিল বের করে রাস্তায় টায়ারে আগুন দেয়। পরে ঘটনাস্থল থেকে আরও চারজনকে পুলিশ আটক করে।
রাজধানীর শ্যামলীতেও ভোরে জাতীয় হৃদরোগ ইনস্টিটিউটের সামনে হরতাল সমর্থকরা টায়ার জ্বালিয়ে সড়ক অবরোধ করে। পুলিশ তাদের সরিয়ে দেয়ার চেষ্টা করলে সংঘর্ষ বাধে। এ সময় জামায়াত-শিবির কয়েকটি ককটেলের বিস্ফোরণ ঘটায়। প্রতিরোধে পুলিশ রাবার বুলেট ছোড়ে। পুলিশ জানায়, হরতাল সমর্থকরা আতঙ্ক সৃষ্টির জন্য সড়কের মাঝখানে টায়ার জ্বালিয়ে অবরোধের চেষ্টা চালায়।
শ্যামলী সিনেমা হলের সামনে ৩-৪টি ককটেল বিস্ফোরণ ঘটিয়ে পালিয়ে যায় জামায়াত-শিবির। এছাড়া সকাল ৮টায় আজিমপুর বাসস্ট্যান্ডের সামনে জামায়াত-শিবিরের কর্মীরা কয়েকটি বোমা বিস্ফোরণ ঘটিয়ে মুহূর্তে কোয়ার্টারের ভেতর ঢুকে হাওয়া হয়ে যায়। প্রত্যক্ষদর্শীরা জানান, জামায়াত-শিবিরের আড়ালে বিএনপি নেতাকর্মীরা এই বিস্ফোরণ ঘটায়।
ওদিকে জামায়াত-শিবিরের হরতাল প্রতিহতের আহ্বান জানিয়ে শেরেবাংলা কৃষি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের উপাচার্য প্রফেসর মোঃ শাদাত উল্লা বলেন, যুদ্ধাপরাধীদের বিচার বানচাল করতে জামায়াত-শিবির সারাদেশে যে নৈরাজ্যের সৃষ্টি করেছে, তা অত্যন্ত ন্যক্কারজনক। এজন্য তিনি দেশের বিবেকবান ও সচেতন মানুষকে যুদ্ধাপরাধীদের বিরুদ্ধে গণজাগরণ সৃষ্টি করে ওদের হরতাল আর সকল নৈরাজ্যের প্রতিবাদ করার আহ্বান জানান। রবিবারের হরতাল প্রতিরোধে সকাল সাড়ে ৮টায় কৃষিবিদ ইনস্টিটিউশন বাংলাদেশ চত্বর থেকে বঙ্গবন্ধু কৃষিবিদ পরিষদ একটি হরতালবিরোধী মিছিল বের করে। মিছিলটি ফার্মগেট, হোটেল সোনারগাঁও মোড় হয়ে মানিক মিঞা এ্যাভিনিউ এসে শেষ হয়। মিছিলে নেতৃত্ব দেন বাংলাদেশ কৃষিবিদ ইনস্টিটিউশনের মহাসচিব মোবারক আলী, যুগ্ম মহাসচিব ও কৃষিবিদ সমীর চন্দ্র, কৃষিবিদ ইনস্টিটিউশনের ঢাকা মহানগর সভাপতি কৃষিবিদ মজিবুর রহমান। এছাড়া রাজধানীর অন্য কোথাও সংঘর্ষের খবর পাওয়া যায়নি।
হরতাল পালন ও কর্মস্থলে উপস্থিতি প্রসঙ্গে বাংলাদেশ ব্যাংকের গবর্নর সচিবালয়ের মহাব্যবস্থাপক এএফএম আসাদুজ্জামান জানান, অন্যান্য দিনের মতো রবিবারও যথাসময়েই বাংলাদেশ ব্যাংকের কার্যক্রম শুরু হয়। শুধু বাংলাদেশ ব্যাংকের প্রধান কার্যালয়ই নয়, আমাদের শাখা অফিসগুলোরও কার্যক্রমও ছিল স্বাভাবিক। সচিবালয় সূত্রে জানা গেছে, হরতাল সত্ত্বেও সচিবালয়ে কর্মরত কর্মকর্তা-কর্মচারীদের উপস্থিতি ছিল শতভাগ।
সরজমিনে দেখা গেছে, বাংলাদেশ ব্যাংক ছাড়াও রাষ্ট্রায়ত্ত ও বেসরকারী বাণিজ্যিক ব্যাংকগুলোর কর্মকা-ে হরতালের কোন প্রভাবই পরিলক্ষিত হয়নি। অর্থনীতির প্রাণ এই ব্যাংক ও আর্থিক প্রতিষ্ঠানগুলোর কার্যক্রম অন্যান্য দিনের মতো যথাসময়েই শুরু হয়েছে এবং স্বাভাবিক নিয়মেই চলেছে। এতে কর্মকর্তা-কর্মচারীদের উপস্থিতিও ছিল শতভাগ। তবে ব্যাংকগুলোতে নারী গ্রাহকের উপস্থিতি ছিল তুলনামূলক কম।

নাটোরে আ'লীগ কর্মী জবাই, অস্ত্র ছিনতাই পুলিশের জেলা প্রতিনিধি বাংলানিউজটোয়েন্টিফোর.কম |  | নাটোর: সাঈদীর বিরুদ্ধে রায় ঘোষণার পর খায়রুল বাশার নামে এক আওয়ামী লীগ কর্মীকে গলা কেটে হত্যা করেছে জামায়াত-শিবিরের নেতাকর্মীরা। এ সময় শিবিরের হামলায় ৭ পুলিশ সদস্য আহত হয়েছেন। এছাড়াও পুলিশের গাড়িতে আগুন, দু'টি শটগান ছিনতাই, পুলিশ ফাঁড়িতে হামলা ও গুদরা গ্রামের আ'লীগ কর্মী মোহাম্মদ মজনুর বাড়িসহ অন্তত ১০ বাড়িতে অগ্নিসংযোগ করা হয়েছে। বৃহস্পতির বিকেলে নাটোরের লালপুরে এ ঘটনা ঘটে। নিহত খায়রুল গুদরা গ্রামের বাসিন্দা। প্রত্যক্ষদর্শীরা জানান, সাঈদীর বিরুদ্ধে রায় ঘোষণার পর নাটোরের লালপুরের গুদরায় জামায়াত-শিবির নেতাকর্মীরা একটি মিছিল বের করে। এ সময় মিছিলকারীরা গুদরা গ্রামের আ'লীগ কর্মী খায়রুলকে গলা কেটে হত্যা করে। খবর পেয়ে পুলিশ ঘটনাস্থলে গিয়ে মিছিলে বাধা দিলে পুলিশের ওপর হামলা চালিয়ে পুলিশের গাড়িতে আগুন ধরিয়ে দেয় শিবির কর্মীরা। এ সময় পুলিশের ২টি শটগান ছিনিয়ে নেওয়া হয়। এক পর্যায়ে ওয়ালিয়া পুলিশ ফাঁড়িতেও হামলা চালায় তারা। এ সময় ফাঁড়ির ইনচার্জ আব্দুর রউফসহ ৭ পুলিশ সদস্য আহত হন। লালপুর থানার ভারপ্রাপ্ত কর্মকর্তা (ওসি) মতিয়ার রহমান বাংলানিউজকে জানান, অস্ত্র উদ্ধার করা সম্ভব হয়নি। বর্তমানে পরিস্থিতি পুলিশের নিয়ন্ত্রণে রয়েছে। এলাকায় অতিরিক্ত পুলিশ মোতায়েন করা হয়েছে। বাংলাদেশ সময়: ১৬৫৬ ঘণ্টা, ফেব্রুয়ারি ২৮, ২০১৩ সম্পাদনা: প্রভাষ চৌধুরী, নিউজরুম এডিটর/জেডএমhttp://www.banglanews24.com/detailsnews.php?nssl=8412c11b6bec3eb687b327da192bb9ae&nttl=28022013177855মিরপুরে জামায়াত-শিবিরের হামলার চেষ্টা:http://www.banglanews24.com/detailsnews.php?nssl=adc76b62987ed123ce5d90f5e3193075&nttl=28022013177953 |
