US ambassador-at-large for war crimes issues Stephen J Rapp
Visiting US ambassador-at-large for war crimes issues Stephen J Rapp said that the International Crime Tribunals (ICT 1 and 2) are maintaining international standards in the trial process and the US authority is satisfied with the way the tribunal is handling the trial.
He made the observation while addressing a press briefing in the city on Wednesday afternoon.
Earlier, he held a view exchange meeting with the three-member panel of International Crimes Tribunal 2 (ICT 2) on the ongoing war crimes trial and its standards.
Emerging from the meeting, Rapp said: "The US authority cannot support the post-verdict violence conducted by the supporters of war criminals."
However, he denied to make any further remarks on cases that are still under process.
Earlier on Tuesday, Jamaat-e-Islami sought US assistance in amending war crime related laws in Bangladesh while holding a meeting with Rapp.
On Jamaat's side, senior lawyer barrister Abdur Razzak led the meeting that continued for one hour and 45 minutes.
US Ambassador to Bangladesh Dan W Mozena was also present at the meeting.
