Re: [mukto-mona] 'I can't be sure God DOES NOT exist': World's most notorious atheist Richard Dawkins admits he is in fact agnostic

Therefore, asking an atheist to prove non-existence of god is meaningless and irrelevant.

>>>>>>>>>>> If you ask me, I really do not care much about who is an atheist or who is praying ten times a day.

There are plenty of atheists, who keep their belief systems (OR no system!) with themselves.

However there is another kind of atheists. (Commonly seen in Mukto-Mona) They tell everyone that, they do not have faith in God but cannot stop talking about God!!   :-D

They will speak volume about secularism and how religious people should keep their religion in personal space. However they will jump on anyone who simply say, they have faith in one unseen God.

They will keep abusing people and their religion as much as they want. However they are NOT very tolerant themselves. That is where hypocrisy lies.

If "Saurav" does not feel there is no God who made this universe, mountains, tress, flowers, animals, it is fine. If Saurav want to think, all these creation was some kind of accident, it is fine.

However if Saurav want to abuse my religion, I may want o invite Saurav to present his case. That is all.

I am NOT a fan of people who abuse religion for their personal gain. But those who oppose religion for personal pleasure or gain is equally bad.

Religion is a concept or a guideline ONLY. It is the people who give it shape. If the people lack in knowledge or have bad intention, religion may look like a bad thing.

If you ask a twelve year old (Who never driven a car ) to drive a BMW, he will crash the car. Is it the BMW at fault or the idiot who asked the kid to drive the car.

Dawkins is at least very honest with his findings. First he was sure there was no God, today he is unsure about if God exists (So he has doubts about his own theory that made him known all over the world). I admire such brave person, who is not shy to admit his mistakes.

My two cents....

Shalom!

Hi,

I think the report has potential to create misunderstanding about what Dawkins says and what actually reported in the news.

It is logically obvious for an atheist to be unable to disprove existence of god. Consider an extreme example. Let us consider, Saurav, a man, believe that he does not exist. Now who will be interested to prove that he exists? Obviously not Saurav. Because he has already denied his existence. The people who have any clue or evidence in support of his existence can only claim that Saurav exists. Therefore, the ownership of proving existence of something lies on the person who claims.

Therefore, asking an atheist to prove non-existence of god is meaningless and irrelevant. It is responsibility of theist to prove that god exists because they claim his/her existence.

Thanking you.

With best regards,

Saurav

No one can be sure about the existence of God; but - that's not a proof of non-existence of God. Scientists believed in the existence of the so called God-particle long before it was experimentally verified. Atheists unnecessarily waste much of their efforts to disprove God, which is nothing but barking at the wrong tree. I am glad, Richard Dawkins realized it finally.

In my view, atheism means - not believing in any religion; that has nothing to do with belief in God. It's true - religion is human fantasies about God, heaven and hell. But - God did not create those fantasies, human did. If God created religion, it would be universal, without any regional influence. It's pretty clear if you have eyes to see it and mind to grasp it.

'I can't be sure God DOES NOT exist': World's most notorious atheist Richard Dawkins admits he is in fact agnostic

Professor Richard Dawkins today dismissed his hard-earned reputation as a militant atheist - admitting that he is actually agnostic as he can't prove God doesn't exist.
The country's foremost champion of the Darwinist evolution, who wrote The God Delusion, stunned audience members when he made the confession during a lively debate on the origins of the universe with the Archbishop of Canterbury.
Professor Dawkins, the former Oxford Professor for the Public Understanding of Science, is a dedicated admirer of Charles Darwin, regarding the Victorian pioneer of evolution as the man who explained 'everything we know about life'.

But when Archbishop Dr Rowan Williams suggested that Professor Darwin is often described as the world's most famous atheist, the geneticist responded: 'Not by me'.

He said: 'On a scale of seven, where one means I know he exists, and seven I know he doesn't, I call myself a six.'
Professor Dawkins went on to say he believed was a '6.9', stating: 'That doesn't mean I'm absolutely confident, that I absolutely know, because I don't.'
They were discussing 'The Nature of Human Beings and the Question of their Ultimate Origin' when Professor Dawkins admitted he was agnostic rather than an atheist

The two high-profile figures were debating whether Biblical writers 'got it wrong' by not saying that the universe is billions of years old.
The Archbishop said: 'The writers of the Bible, inspired as I believe they were, were not inspired to do 21st century physics, they were inspired to pass on to their readers what God wanted them to know.
'In the first book of the Bible is the basic information - the universe depends on God, humanity has a very distinctive role in that universe , and humanity has made rather a mess of it.'
But Professor Dawkins said he was 'baffled' by 'the way sophisticated theologians who know Adam and Eve never existed still keep talking about it'.
This latest admission by Professor Dawkins comes after he was left lost for words name the full title of his scientific hero's most famous work during a radio discussion last week in which he accused Christians of being ignorant of the Bible.
In his frustration, he resorted to a helpless: 'Oh God.'
