I called BNP "Bangladesh Nonsense Party" in 2006 in a News from Bangladesh commentary. But the talk of 3 million dead should be on mute for all intellectuals and responsible political parties. The point should never have been 3 million vs another big number; it should have been what the country has done about it. The country's record is a colossal shame, in spite of a few death sentences over the last few years. It is preposterous that not only the nonsense party, but also the so-called pro-liberation parties are still playing politics with the number.

শনিবার (০২ জানুয়ারি) বিকেল ৫টার দিকে রাজধানীর শাহবাগে বিক্ষোভ মিছিলের আগে এক সমাবেশে তিনি এ মন্তব্য করেন।
পাকিস্তান, জামায়াত ও যুদ্ধাপরাধীদের স্বার্থ রক্ষার জন্যই বিএনপি এ ধরনের বক্তব্য দিচ্ছে বলে দাবি করেন ইমরান এইচ সরকার।
তিনি বলেন, মুক্তিযুদ্ধের ইতিহাস বিকৃতির মধ্যদিয়ে বিএনপি নামক দলটির রাজনৈতিক অপমৃত্যু হয়েছে, তাদের ঘুরে দাঁড়ানোর পথ নেই। তারা যে একটি মেরুদণ্ডহীন রাজনৈতিক দল, তা তাদের বক্তব্যের মধ্যদিয়ে প্রমাণিত হয়েছে।
এ ধরনের বক্তব্য প্রমাণ করে জামায়াতের সঙ্গে তাদের কোনো পার্থক্য নেই বলেও জানান তিনি।
সমাবেশে ছাত্র ইউনিয়নের ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের সভাপতি লিটন নন্দী বলেন, বিভিন্ন সময় মুক্তিযুদ্ধের ইতিহাস বিকৃত করা হয়েছে। স্বাধীনতার ৪৪ বছর পর এসেও বিকৃত করা হচ্ছে। বিভিন্ন সময় পাঠ্যপুস্তক, টেলিভিশন ও বক্তব্যের মধ্যদিয়ে ইতিহাস বিকৃত করা হয়েছে।
গণজাগরণ মঞ্চের কর্মী সঞ্জীবন সজীব বলেন, পঁচাত্তরের পর থেকেই ইতিহাস বিকৃত শুরু হয়। যারা মুক্তিযুদ্ধের ইতিহাস নিয়ে বিকৃত বক্তব্য দেয়, তারা নির্বোধ। তাদের এ দেশে থাকার কোনো অধিকার নেই।
মঞ্চের আরেক কর্মী শিবলী হাসান বলেন, যারা বুদ্ধিজীবীদের নিয়ে বিকৃত বক্তব্য দিয়েছেন, তাদের সেই বক্তব্য নিয়ে স্বাধীনতার স্বপক্ষের শক্তিও রাজনীতি করছে।
এ সময় অন্যদের মধ্যে আরও বক্তব্য রাখেন গণজাগরণ মঞ্চের কর্মী ভাস্কর রাশা, উদীচী শিল্পী গোষ্ঠীর সাধারণ সম্পাদক জামশেদ আনোয়ার তপন প্রমুখ।
সমাবেশ শেষে ইমরান এইচ সরকারের নেতৃত্বে মুক্তিযুদ্ধের ইতিহাস বিকৃতির প্রতিবাদ ও মানবতাবিরোধী মামলার আসামি মতিউর রহমান নিজামীর দ্রুত ফাঁসি কার্যকর কারার দাবিতে মিছিল বের করা হয়। মিছিলটি শাহবাগ থেকে শুরু হয়ে টিএসসি ঘুরে ফের শাহবাগে গিয়ে শেষ হয়।

For example, in Choddogram, in Shthkhira, in Nilfamari awami cadres were caught in bus burning. The ShechaChebok Awami Leader's bus company Bihonggo was burning its own buses, most of the time outside its own routes. Why would dozens & dozens of Binhongo busses be burned outside their own routes.

People are questing the martyr toll as Mujib or govt had failed to do any studies to determine the number the death as it is an important liberation war's historic fact. Our liberation war history cannot and should not depend on lies and propaganda. 'I say so' dictation cannot be basis of any historic fact. Our history is not like a 3 year old infant that it needs protection of dictator's decree, study-less 'I say so' dictation. It should be allowed to stand on the weights of its own merit, come what it may based on historian's findings and studies.
