Hindi or Sanskrit, does not really matter. To protest against repression of Hindus and other non-Muslim peoples in Bangladesh, there was no need for using this language. I would advise HBCUC and other organizations that are fighting for religious minority rights in Bangladesh to not even talk about the raw injustice and hatred that the so-called holy books of Islam have. There is no need to be too much of religiously Hindu, culturally Indian, or critic of Islam for the goal of justice and rights for Hindus in Bangladesh. Just protest against the acts, not against what is behind them.
All God-fearing religions have plenty of garbage in them, all human ancestors had a lot of barbarity in them; there is no point in criticizing ancient garbage. Humans just need to use their brain to reject them. The Western nations are more civilized, not because of what religions they identify with, but because they are better at rejecting religious stupidity, injustice and hatred.

Hindi uses Sanskrit alphabet too! It shows both you and your colleague are ignorant about the origin of Indo-European languages. Ask a 7th or 8th grader in Bangladesh about it if he/she is taking Sanskrit as a supplementary subject. Problem with some narrow minded Muslims is that they are free to use Arabic and Urdu whenever they choose but hell breaks loose when they see Hindus/Budhists using Sanskrit alphabets. Good for goose but not so good for gander? It seems like an unmistakable signature of low self-confidence.
