Religious people telling what is right and wrong about women's dresses, and women deciding on their own!! This is getting to be less than intellectual talk, if you do not mind me saying so.
If the women are sufficiently religious, they would follow their religion. That does not necessarily make it the right thing to do for the women. Nor does it necessarily make her society good/fair. Religion or not, my common sense tells me that both men and women should dress decently outside of their very private space. After that if the men feel undue sexual urge toward women, a just system should put restrictions on the men's head/eyes, not on the women's dress.
Let me give a different example. When a poor illiterate laborer believes in re-birth, and seriously believes that all his hardship in this life is due to some misdeed he has done in the last life, he would not be revolting against unfair treatment that he receives in this life, would he? On his own, would he not accept the unfairness as his fate? The serious religious brainwash that he got would be good for the oppressors to use him as a slave laborer. Would that be right? Would that make the oppressor-oppressed society worthy of being called civilized?
Religious brainwash is just about the most perfect way for the criminals to avoid the blame, putting the onus on the victims.

I will not be surprised if some of them are just using Hijab as a cover to avoid sexual predators or agitators on the street corners. I heard stories like this before.
It seems like - religious people pay much more importance to women's attires than anything else in the society. Can't they just suggest women what's their right and wrong dresses as per religious sanction, and let them make their own decision?
