Thank you for forwarding the following Jugantor report, which says: If election is held today, then BNP will win 170 seats, BAL 69, JP 23, JI 14, close contest in 21 seats, others 3, according to a two-month opinion survey by Jugantor field reporters.

Kader Siddiqui also said on 31 January 2012, if election is held tomorrow and if Awami League wins more than 50 seats in that election, then he would wear bangles in both hands!

Many think BAL hasn't got more than 20% support now. The daily Star 'respondents' on 6 January 2012 showed 39% support for the govt (down from 81% in 2009), but these respondents of the daily Star are mostly pro-BAL and pro-India!
However, going back to 2007, the BNP-JI alliance was still the favourite to win the election scheduled for 22 January 2007 (in spite of alleged corruption, etc. of their 2001-06 govt), according to some reports. But Manmohan-Bush conspiracy, supported by their allies and their rubber stamp, the UN, cancelled the election and staged a covert military coup by Moeen U on 1/11 2007. They later rigged the election of 2008 to put Hasina in power.
At present, the lure of winning the election of 2013 hands down could be fatal for the opposition.
Over the last 5 years, since 1/11 2007, India has established a firm grip on BD. They will try to defend BAL govt, if necessary by all means, including military ones that is, according to Anandabazar Patrika, Kuldip Nayar's article and the cacophony of the other Indian reporters and analysts. Court cases, imprisonment, dividing the opposition, emergency rule, armed crack-down or search operation to find 'armed fundamentalists' or using whatever pretext (as Mujib's Rakkhi Bahini did to dismantle armed resistance), Indian military incursion, etc. cannot not be ruled out. Krishna and Pronob are both likely to visit BD this month!
The opposition has been talking of mass uprising ASAP. Obviously inspired and buoyed by the mammoth rally last Monday, Moudud said yesterday that the govt's farewell bell will start ringing from their mammoth rally on 12 March. But are they prepared for the whole range of possibilities of BAL-India counter offensive? Foreign Diplomats may play a role, but may not be enough to rein in India. India defied the US over their purchase of oil from Iran, also over IO-Kashmir three years ago and over Yunus and Grameen Bank in BD! Last year, India also snubbed the US by deciding 'not to buy American F-16's or F/A-18's for the biggest defense tender in its history -- a .. $10 billion-plus contract for 126 multi-role combat aircraft' (Foreign Policy magazine 29 April 2011) and the US ambassador to India resigned straight away!
Thus, the situation in BD is totally uncertain. The opposition needs to force it in their favour, by connecting with the people.
