Dear Friends and Members of the Bangladeshi American Community:
An eight-story building housing several garments factories collapsed at Savar, Bangladesh on Wednesday, April 24th 2013, killing more than 300 people and trapping 1000s under a jumbled mess of concrete. Hundreds of people are still trapped under the rubble. Rescuers including military personnel, fire fighters, police force along with many volunteers are trying to cut through the debris. Many of the victims are in critical conditions and need extensive medical treatment.
The CUNY Bangladeshi Alumni Network (CBAN) in partnership with JAAGO Foundation in Bangladesh has initiated fund raising efforts to provide the rescuers and volunteers with the necessary medical and emergency supplies. Funds will also go to support the victims and their families.
