I don't know any thing about his lechery. But he was a talented writer. He seems to be now a spent force. His articles on classic arts and paintings and a book on our great painter Sultan are mentionable. Good thing is that he realized his own limitations and very quickly gave in. That is his greatness, not timidity.
A brief but indepth criticism of Hye's story under refrence by Farida Majid is remarkable.

Having the reputation of a lecher, he could not have a better opinion about women.  I believe he was paid by the Jamaat to write such a trash.  Mr. Jamir should sue him for defamation.

A fiction writer does present an 'opinion' or a point of view from where the characters and events of the narrative are presented. The main character of the Hai story is recognizable -- an everyday girl, a working girl, struggling to get ahead in life having gone through earlier life of getting herself an education.  She is an aggregate, a collective representative of people gathered at Shahbagh movement whose real purpose is to resist the onslaught of religious fundamentalists robbing the nation of its ideals of secularism or cultural pluralism for which the Liberation War of 1971 was fought. The author of the story successfully undermines all of this in one fell swoop by demeaning the girl as nothing but a piece of FLESH.  A consumer item of male human beings.

   Hasnat Abdul Hai wanted to rob the girls of Shahbagh of their basic, inalienable HUMANITY! He wants to remind you that women have no humanity no matter how hard they try, they only have BODIES (no mind of their own), to be consumed by males, therefore, they are exclusive property of males. Please, raise your voice of protest if you are a fellow human being!

ঢাকা: প্রথম আলো পত্রিকায় নারীবিদ্বেষী ও শাহবাগ গণজাগরণ মঞ্চের অগ্নিকন্যাদের চরিত্র হনন করে লেখা ছোটগল্প 'টিভি ক্যামেরার সামনে মেয়েটি' অবশেষে প্রত্যাহার করার ঘোষণা দিয়ে ক্ষমা চেয়েছেন গল্পকার হাসনাত আবদুল হাই।

সোমবার সন্ধ্যায় প্রথম আলোর অনলাইন সংস্করণে লেখকের ক্ষমা চাওয়ার খবর প্রকাশিত হয়।

এতে বলা হয়, "পয়লা বৈশাখ ১৪২০-এর 'প্রথম আলো'র বিশেষ পৃষ্ঠায় 'টিভি ক্যামেরার সামনে মেয়েটি' নামে আমার একটি ছোটগল্প ছাপা হয়। কারও কিংবা কোনো গোষ্ঠীর মনে আঘাত দেওয়ার উদ্দেশ্যে গল্পটি লেখা হয়নি। দেখা যাচ্ছে, বেশ কিছু পাঠক গল্পটি পড়ে ক্ষুব্ধ হয়েছেন। অনিচ্ছা সত্ত্বেও তাঁদের ক্ষুব্ধ করার জন্য আমি আন্তরিকভাবে দুঃখিত এবং ক্ষমাপ্রার্থী। গল্পটি প্রত্যাহার করে নেওয়া হচ্ছে এবং ভবিষ্যতে কোনো গল্পগ্রন্থে এটি অন্তর্ভূক্ত করা হবে না।"

এর আগে প্রথম আলো কর্তৃপক্ষও লেখাটি প্রত্যাহার করে নেয় এবং ক্ষমা চায়।
