I do understand where you are coming from. I feel the real issue is violence. No one should promote violence. It does not matter if they belong to religious party or secular party. Our people elected secular leaning party but we saw Ramu incident, Biswajit scandal (A source of shame) etc.
Therefore, political parties have to change their "Culture". They have to get rid of their violence prone people (Mostly students with arms) and get back to debates, discussion and fair election.
Most people of this country do not support imposing religious, secular preferences on others and they want to live in peace and harmony.
We should strongly support freedom of speech and reject violence (No matter what the cause) within our own population.

আজ শনিবার রাজধানীর জাতীয় পরিকল্পনা ও উন্নয়ন একাডেমিতে খাদ্য অধিকার-বিষয়ক জাতীয় সম্মেলনে প্রধান অতিথির বক্তব্য শেষে গণমাধ্যমের কর্মীদের প্রশ্নের উত্তরে মিজানুর রহমান এসব কথা বলেন। খাদ্য-অধিকার ও সামাজিক নিরাপত্তা আন্দোলনের পক্ষ থেকে এ সম্মেলনের আয়োজন করা হয়।
মানবাধিকার কমিশনের চেয়ারম্যান বলেন, 'সংবিধানে এমন অনেক কিছু আছে, যা না থাকলেই ভালো হতো। যেমন—সংবিধানে এখনো আছে ধর্মভিত্তিক রাজনীতি করা যাবে। অথচ জনগণের কাঙ্ক্ষিত আকাঙ্ক্ষা ছিল, এ ধরনের রাজনীতি করার সুযোগ দেশে থাকবে না।'
মিজানুর রহমান ওই সম্মেলনে বলেন, ' আশা করি গতকালের (শুক্রবার) তাণ্ডব দেখে সরকার সংবিত্ ফিরে পাবে। সরকার বুঝবে যে ধর্মনিরপেক্ষতার কথা বললে সেই সমাজে, রাষ্ট্রে ধর্মভিত্তিক রাজনীতিকে চলতে দেওয়া যায় না।'
মানবাধিকার কমিশনের চেয়ারম্যান আরও বলেন, জামায়াতে ইসলামী ১৯৭১ সালেও ধর্মের দোহাই দিয়ে রাজনৈতিক ফায়দা লুটেছে। ধর্মের দোহাই দিয়ে ধর্ষণ, লুণ্ঠন করেছে। ১৯৭১ সালে তারা ভুল করেছিল, সে ধরনের উপলব্ধি এই দলটির মধ্যে আসেনি। তাণ্ডব চালিয়েই যাচ্ছে। রাষ্ট্রকে বিষয়টি দৃঢ়ভাবে মোকাবিলা করতে হবে। সরকারের পাশাপাশি বিভিন্ন রাজনৈতিক দলগুলোকেও এদের তাণ্ডবের বিরুদ্ধে ঐক্যবদ্ধভাবে রুখে দাঁড়াতে হবে।

Mizanur Rahman is 100% correct; there is no way out of the chaos other than reverting back to 100% secular political principles. Most politicians, including Sheikh Hashina, either do not understand secularism or knowingly beating around the bush for political advantage. In either case, Awami League is the looser.
Awami League did not gain any long-term gain out of this hodgepodge constitution of Bangladesh, where politics with religion coexists along with secular political principles.
The issue at hand is not about banning Jamat-Shibir; it will achieve nothing. Jamat-Shibir cadres can find hundreds of other religious political parties to continue their politics. The issue is politics with religion. There is no justification for such an admixture. It is undoubtedly an unfair practice in all fronts, as people who use religion in politics enjoy an undue advantage over others who do not do so. Even corrupt and criminal of highest order can garner sympathy out of religious sentiment.
Bangladesh has lost a golden opportunity during the last revision of constitution by Awami League. I do not know if this movement will bring any change if the demand is anything but absolute political secularism. I hope - the lip services of politicians, including the Prime Minister, should not confuse the youth this time around, and intelligentsias should get involved and guide them along.
