At least 10 people, including a news cameraman, were injured when activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and its student affiliate Islami Chhatra Shibir opened fire on police in Rajshahi.
The clash erupted around 11am near the city's Rani Bazar area after the Islamist activists brought out a sudden procession from Bata intersection area.
Witnesses said police lobbed teargas shells and fired rubber bullets in retaliation.
Officials say this attack is part of the nationwide violence unleashed by the Jamaat-Shibir combine after the death penalty of their leader Delwar Hossain Sayedee, in which police has been systematically targetted.
Boalia Police Station Officer-in-Charge Ziaul Haq Zia said apart from Sayed, the clash left two police men injured two.
"We have arrested seven from the spot," he added.
Earlier, police arrested 23 activists of Jamaat and Shibir from the Rail Station area.
