One may interpret such a behavior of yours as a sympathetic tone to Hefajat's discrimination against women

>>>>>>>>> I would not over analyze it. In fact, there are stuff Hefazat said from their understanding. They have moved back few steps when they were asked to explain their "Nastik" comment (Which was wrong) on everyone in Shahbag.

Similarly they said (In a talk show) they are not against women working to earn a living but this is not their "Best hope". They want to see men making money. So some of the comments are not written on stone!!

politics has been (Mostly) a game of compromise in last two decades (In Bangladesh).

We have to wait and see where we go from here. I am sharing the latest "Update" on this issue with you...

Madinah Charter to guide state, says PM

Staff Correspondent

The prime minister, Sheikh Hasina, on Saturday said that the state would be run in keeping with the Charter of Madinah and the 'Prophet's Sermon on the Last Pilgrimage' and vowed to build a society where people of all faiths could practise their religions peacefully.
'Our country will be run in line with the spirit of the Madinah Charter of our
beloved Prophet Muhammad (SM) and his Last Sermon,' Hasina said while addressing at the meeting with Awami League leaders of Pabna district at her official residence Ganabhaban.
Prophet Muhammad (SM) had the Madinah Charter drafted shortly after his Hijra in 622 AD.
The prime minister warned that the government would not tolerate defamation of the great Prophet and would surely take punitive actions against the culprits.
'All people, irrespective of race and religion, will enjoy their rights in the country. But let it be sure that the government would not tolerate defamation of any religion,' she said.

Without naming any group, Hasina also said that some people had doctored a picture of  'gilaf' of holy Makkah for their own gains. 'This is "shirk" of sorts; this cannot be tolerated,' she said.
The prime minister's statement came at a time when Shahbagh protesters had launched a campaign for maximum punishment for war criminals while Hefajat-e-Islam was demanding punishment for the Shahbagh youths, branding them as 'atheist' bloggers.
Hasina, also president of Awami League, rejected all formulas coming up nowadays from various quarters for an election-time government.
'These new formulas will only make things more complicated …these would not help strengthen democracy or ensure its march forward,' she said without specifying Transparency International Bangladesh's proposal to form an '11-member polls-time government' to conduct the next general election.
Hasina said that the election would be held as per the system followed in other democracies.
She accused the opposition of hatching conspiracies to dislodge the government using Hefajat's April 6 rally. The prime minister said that opposition leader Khaleda Zia was 'unhappy' as the plot did not work.
She said the Hefajat had observed its programme and placed various demands, but the government would consider only those which were logical.
She said that Khaleda Zia was desperately trying to protect the war criminals and go to power by any means but democratic process.
Referring to Friday's incident in Fatikchhari of Chittagong, the prime minister said, 'They attacked a peaceful procession of Awami League. They made false claims on the PA system of mosques to incite people and mount attack on the procession.'
'The PA system of mosques is used for calling people for prayers. The device should be used for holy purposes. But, BNP-Jamaat fanatics are using it with an evil political motive,' she said. She urged the imams and religious leaders to raise their voice against such sinister designs.
She urged the people to build up resistance against the miscreants responsible for the killings and their protectors as well.
She said that her government had so far exercised restraint, but warned that it should not be treated as its weakness. 'Stop killing, stop arson, as your [Khaleda] desire would not be fulfilled by killing people,' she added.
Hasina urged the people to come forward and resist the opposition's destructive activities, including its efforts to save war criminals.
The prime minister urged the party leaders and activists to resist the BNP-Jamaat 'thugs' with people's support. 'People have a level of tolerance. They cannot remain silent about their brutality and crimes,' she added.
Deputy leader of the house Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury, planning minister AK Khandakar, agriculture minister Matia Chowdhury, Awami League presidium member Mohammad Nasim, state minister Jahangir Kabir Nanak and Shamsul Haque Tuku, joint secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif and central leader Abul Hasnat Abdullah were present, among others, on the occasion.
Shalom!!

I have not said a single word against Islam. I have simply said that there are many versions of Islam (and for that matter any other religion and and even any ideology). Your version is quite different from that of spokeperson of Hefajat-e-Islam. Hefajat will uproot the atheists while you will happily live with them. But your conviction does not seem to be strong. While I am alarmed by Hefajat's threat, you seem to be cool. Also while I see Hefajat's concern about garment workers' decent dress as superfluous and hence meaningless (why the poor workers will wear indecent dresses any way!) and covert form of male chauvinism, you seem to highlight it as a valid argument. One may interpret such a behavior of yours as a sympathetic tone to Hefajat's discrimination against women. I am not surprised that a feminist like Farida apa has been upset by such a behavior.

a leader of Hifajat-e-Islam. He was saying in a strong voice that no atheist had place in Bangladesh.

>>>>>>>>>>>> Guess we are talking about apples and oranges here. I was talking about ISLAM and you are mentioning about some leader from "Hefazat-e-Islam". While it is shocking to hear but I do not see any problem being an atheist in Bangladesh. You can carry on your belief and no one is going to disturb you. HOWEVER if anyone goes around and start delivering hate speeches, they should be challenged.

In fact most of "Hefazat-e-Islam" leaders were asked to explain their positions in various talk shows in Bangladesh. This opportunity was helpful to remove some misunderstanding and some people openly rejected their ideas.

For example, one such leader explained (Few hours ago) that, they are NOT against women folks working in garment industry but they like to see them in decent dresses and down the road provide facilities for women should be developed.

Therefore, let people come up with ideas and proposals, we still retain the right to accept them or not accept them.

People of Bangladesh are not fanatics. That is the reason different political parties were elected in last four elections. If government fails to deliver their promises, they can be removed peacefully.

We may have some differences of opinions but I think we can unite to make our democracy stronger. Let average people decide what is good for our country not few people.

Hefazat-e-Islam came to public light recently. Let them explain their positions clearly, it they fail, people will reject them. If they have merit, people will support them.

Shalom!
