RE: [mukto-mona] Re: [KHABOR] Hasan Madmud's film

Here we go again! the great 'chhagoler nadi' dispenser of knowledge -- bits and pieces of disjointed information -- some deliberately false and proven not to be true by up-to-date historians.
Who the hell is talking about "descendants of ruling class'?  Ordinary Muslims and Hindus were contended inhabitants of a rich and prosperous Bengal.  There were no circumstances in which a Muslim community in Bengal could specially be marked as "poor and backward" before 1793.  It is Colonial British historiographer's propaganda.  This thing called "different economic strata in the society" is an anachronistic imagination -- i.e. imposing today's valuation to understand the Past.

Read the glowing reports on the riches of Bengal (that was looted) by the British Admin officers sent out to Bengal after the devastating famine in 1770 that was cruelly set up by the Company policies of collecting revenue.  Read Amartya Sen on famines, which he contends, are always man-made.

Kamal Das tried but failed to support his lies.  He is one of the worst communal liars in the cyberspace.

Read History before you make any comment on it.  The former ruling Muslims and the ordinary Muslims ( who were mostly converts) belonged to different economic strata of the society.  Descendants from the ruling class were not many, even many of them had not enough wealth to own, i.e. to take lease of, any land.  Before Permanent Settlement Act, the land was leased out to communities and not to persons.  Besides, Permanent Settlement Act was not effective across India right away.  For example, it came to Chittagong as late as in 1905, and to the Hill Tracts as late in late seventies.

Permanent Settlement Act of 1793 made into a law by a foreign commercial company who was given lease in 1765 to collect revenue of Bengal by the Moghul Emperor in Delhi.  Why would Bengali Muslims be "poor and backward" in a rich country at the time? What would be the socioeconomic reason?
It is only a hearsay, and this BS has no factual evidence.  There was no such thing as 'private property' up until that time, and Muslims and Hindus were equally well provided for by respective Devottor or Waqf system of land usage. Professional or crafts people, be they Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, Christians or smaller tribal people, also enjoyed this communitarian land usage system.

Please revise your knowledge of Bengal's history before you spread hoary nonsense. You owe it to your self!

When the British Administration introduced Permanent Settlement, Bengali Muslims were poor and backward.  Hence most properties were leased out to Hindus.  Situation changed after 1947.  The administrations in Pakistan and Bangladesh did indeed consider abandoned property of Hindus as easy grab, mal-e-ganimat.  But then, even Muslims swallowed the land of the Beharis and the Hindus did the same to Hindu property even in the guise of assorted Hindu foundations.  Even the late Justice Debesh Bhattacharya and Neem Chandra Bhowmik were once blamed for having swallowed the property of Dhakewswaree temple.
