Re: [mukto-mona] FW: মিতা হকের বাঙ্গালীয়ানা ও মরু-সাম্রাজ্যবাদ

What Mita Huq said was incredibly stupid. I did not expect an educated person saying such a thing. If beard, cap and hijab are signs of non-Bengali, then Rabindranath Tagore and our own shubash Dutta (Film director) were not "Real Bengalis".

He comments sounded like stories I head about Pakistanis who asked us if we were Bengalis or Muslims. I think we are both and as long these choices remain FREE to all and not forced upon anyone, this is a private matter (Falls into freedom of thoughts and expression). It is none of her damn business. It is ironic that, Mita Huq would sound like half educated Pakistanis in this day and age!!

It seems she has NO connection with majority people of this country. One of my family members were part of the procession of the 51 (Language movement). He is very old today and very religious as well. I do not think most of the time these identities cause any major conflicts.

It also pretty sad that, in this day and age an educated lady dared to "Tell" women about what to dress. If women feel good in wearing hijab, we HAVE to respect her choice. If someone does not want to, we have to respect that as well.

Fatemolla is delusional and it is better to ignore his illogical ideas. In a free society men and women can decide how they practice their faith and what to dress. As long they remain peaceful, we HAVE to leave them alone.

The first women writer of Bangla history Nawab Faizunnesa (of Laksham, Comilla) mostly remained inside her house, ruled over thousands of subject and remained a devout Muslima at the same time. She was a trail blazer of her time and her family is well respected by local even today (She established schools and colleges for men and women).

Maybe Mita Huq should stick with her music and stay away from subjects she is capable to understand.

Shalom!

Fatemolla (Hasan Mahmud of Canada)r bull shit.  It is dangerous at this juncture to pontificate on 'what is Bangalee' or what is not.  It creates the unnecessary binary opposition of Musulman v. Bangalee.  Yet, we know that it is a fact that there is no such thing as "non-Bangalee razakar".  The ones who are facing trial for crimes committed in 1971 at the Dhaka War Crimes Tribunal right now are all Bangalee.
