Re: [mukto-mona] Godhra-the inner side

SR said,
"Many people are pathologically anti-Muslim, particularly in Bangladesh. Persecution of minority is a very disturbing features, particularly where open democracy is alive ,dormant or in temporary suspension. This is an international phenomenon.
Going by different reports, it appears that in Bangladesh the victims are generally those that have wealth or property. There is as yet no strong tendency to annihilate the Hindu race."

Reply:
These statements reflect the ignorance of West Bengal intellectuals. The only conclusion I can draw from this is that, they have not been paying any attention to the Hindus in Bangladesh.  Now, when Islam is the state religion in Bangladesh, how do you refer to non-Muslim communities? For your information, non-Muslims are regarded as religious minorities. Democracy has nothing to do with it.

As far as annihilation of Hindus race in Bangladesh, let me remind you, do you know that there is a Law called Enemy Property Act, introduced in 1965 during the Indo-Pak war, which states that if Hindus leave for India, they are enemies of the state, and their properties and business will be confiscated by the state. So far 2.5 million acres have been confiscated under this act. Who owns these properties? These properties are distributed among party cadres and influential people, which ever party is in power. Don't you think this will encourage state sponsored persecution of Hindus? Don't you think this will encourage hostility and atrocities against Hindus just to grab their properties and business?

If you look around, you will see Hindus are streaming across the boarder, and living refugee-lives in India. Many of those people were wealthy in Bangladesh. Why they embraced refugee-lives in India, where they have no prospect? Are they pilgrims? No. They are victims of persecution in Bangladesh.

Now, in the non-government level, there is a rising religious fundamentalism in Bangladesh, the goal of which is to make Bangladesh an Islamic country, like Pakistan. Who are obstacles on their ways? It's all religious minorities. The target of these religious fundamentalists are to convert all religious minorities to Islam or force them to leave the country. Have you thought about whatever happened to Hindus in Pakistan? Why are they reduced from 10% to 1% in Pakistan? Why Hindus in Bangladesh are reduced to 10% from 32% in 1947? What do you call this trend? You cannot say this a thriving trend, can you?
