Re: [ALOCHONA] BANGLADESH GIVEN SOVEREIGN CREDIT !!!!!!!!

Bangladesh was not given any "Credit" rather it received a "Rating" from a global rating agency. The rating it received is not good or very good. It is in the middle. While I appreciate our current leaders for taking the initiative to be "Rated" by an agency, we are NOT in a place where our credit rating is news worthy.

Shalom!

Regime change chance is low: Moody's

Dhaka, Feb 5 (bdnews24.com) –Global rating agency Moody's in its latest report revealed that event risks including political regime changes are low in Bangladesh.

The report, which gave Bangladesh a moderate rating of Ba3, was released at a time when the opposition political parties have launched campaign against the government and the army recently revealed that there was a failed coup attempt to topple the government.

'Ba3' rating of Moody's Investors Service and 'BB –' of another top rating agency Standard and Poor's, also given to Bangladesh's sovereign credit, are both moderate.

"And, lastly, event risks --that could be derived from abrupt political regime changes, policy shifts or economic and banking structure risks—are regarded as low and unlikely to result in a sudden or outsized deterioration in sovereign credit-metrics," the report said.

Former finance adviser A B Mirza Azizul Islam said it is less likely that there would be abrupt political changes.

He, however, said, "It is their (Moody's) judgment."

He said as far as businesses are concerned, two things are important – change in policies and deterioration of law and order.

"If there is a change in government and no change in policies and a stable law and order situation persists, businessmen will not be affected."

Citing an example, he said 31 governments changed in Thailand in 50 years but never ever there was change in policies or businessmen experienced deteriorating law and order.

He cautioned that there is political uncertainty in future.

"The main opposition (the BNP) announced programme for March and the government party also declared similar programme," he said. "If everybody is on the street, it will create uncertainty."

Former Bangladesh Bank governor Salehuddin Ahmed said Moody's has given Bangladesh a moderate rating but all such agencies embroiled in controversy.

"Presently nobody believes in the full the report of rating agencies as they have become controversial," he said.

"Look at the crisis in the developed world where AAA-rated countries are in deep trouble," he added.

"We did not see any prior signal from the rating agencies."
